Services by Indy, can't set to variable

Featured Replies

Hi so I recently had my vrs tdi serviced by an Indy and upon pick up I noticed it was reset to a fixed service, I queried and the shop owner came out with a Bosch computer and plugged in.

After ten minutes he couldn't choose high quality oil do the car wouldn't accept the variable settings.

Any ideas, he said he would contact Bosch to see if they know anything

Providing you are certain they used longlife oil, find someone with VCDS.

Their Bosch may be pretty generic. As above VCDS is needed.

Hmm, he showed me all the settings you could access, looked like a very capable bit of kit. I'll see if I can find someone near with vcds if not its getting another service in a year

Yes as above it can sense quality of the oil. If is sett even at a dealer and you top up with more than a litre of cheap oil it reverts to fixed

Sorry thats simply not true. If you're set on variable and top up with "normal" none longlife oil the car won't switch itself to fixed intervals.

The car may well monitor the oil quality but there is no way it can tell what oil specification, LL or normal, is poured into the sump.

I have seen it happen! It might still be on variable but only gives 10,000 miles

Sounds more like a dash reset service.

As soon as oil quality goes below a set threshold it will immediately trigger service now message.

I know because I've manually triggered a service by upping the threshold, then returning it to normal
