Facelift Maxidot Fitted today

Recommended Posts

Although I have done several VW Golf mk6 Highlines, I hadn't done a Skoda FL Maxidot till today

Had a forum member come today with a new Cluster from Skodateile and mfsw

Here is his old cluster

To remove the cluster

remove the light switch, this is done by pushing the dial in and turning to the 12' o clock position and pulling it out

Prise the trim away on each side, and pull the trim that is at the base of the cluster.

remove the 2x torx screws

insert a trim tool and a steel ruler

Yes. I'd be really interested to know the cost of doing all this work. And are insurance companies fine with these kinds I modifications (ESP the airbag equipped steering wheel!)

whispers quietly: what's the difference?

The difference is what can be displayed in the middle screen

The original lower spec only has the trip computer

http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/a5/multifunction-display-VW.htm

The higher version has that plus access to set up menus etc

If Nav or Phone is installed they are also displayed too

So the original one wasn't the full Maxidot, but wasn't the poverty spec one either.

Glad to see that you have been able to do Skodas as well now.

Hi Mike

The error is nothing to worry about, but as Vag-com owners we all like a fault free scan :wonder:

I did ask this on the Vag commander forum, as someone on there was able to get rid of the fault by reading the eeprom file, modifying it and writing it back. Unfortunately he didn't share his info, if I do find out I will let you know

I don't get the fault with the newer FL clusters, which is probably due to the service mode option

Cluster price is on Skodateile website

You can also buy a 2nd hand one which could be £50 - £170

I use Genuine Vag Commander to do the clocks (immo & mileage) and vcds for coding. I enabled the staging and large digital speedo on the maxidot

What would be required with a second hand one - do you need the keys as well and are there any restrictions when using a 2nd hand unit - ie can the millage be set to reflect the correct cars millage ?

Ideally if you can get the key it makes the job of transfering the data and mileage a 10 min job. If you can't get the key I need to open the cluster up to put the cluster into service mode

The only restriction is the type of key you have now and the key type of the donor cluster.

New type keys, don't work on Clusters that had the old style key

Old type keys work with both

Mileage Correction is not a problem on new or used, once immo transfer has been done

Thanks Mate.

Shall keep an eye out for a second hand cluster with keys - I have the new style key.

I really want to do this but the only thing holding me back is I can't find anyone to do the coding.

I have VCDS but as already said it needs more than this.

When I emailed Shark Performance they weren't interested due to my car being an FL.

I'd buy the cluster tomorrow if I knew of someone to do the coding.

Now that sounds like an idea.

How much would you be asking?

Do PM me if you don't want to answer that on an open forum.

Cheers

Nick
