Richard's GT-R thread, old and new!

After the headache with paint quality on the last car I decided the new one had to be wrapped to save my sanity.

The GT-R runs a very soft top coat. Apparently it's to reduce stone chip damage at high speed, but it makes them a nightmare to look after and just about anything will leave a trace in the paint.

As I was wrapping anyway and the cost was the same I decided to try a slightly more interesting colour...

Sunday 8th July was Modified Live at Brands Hatch.

Weather was not good, but the yellow car kept me smiling. :)

I went with the GTROC, we had 18 cars there, including 3 GT-Rs. (others were Skylines and Steagas)

Couldn't believe how much attention the car got. Several times I found photographers taking a picture while a promo girl was leaning over the car.

Definately not the best car for being discreet. :giggle: Hardly a few minutes went by between people taking a snap.

Met some nice people and gave a few members of the public a tour round the car.

Then we had the GTROC parade lap during the lunch time break from the racing.

Spot the odd one out...

Driving back from the parade lap with the window open through the show I had a young lady tell me it was a "damn sexy car".

I think my big fat Nissan has pulled. :giggle:

Saw you in your big fat Nissan this morning on the A12 at 6.20am. It's a lighter colour than I thought it would be but you can see that yellow for miles.

What were you driving?

I'm usually in the red Yeti, but I've got a rolling road session booked later at Abbey Motorsport today.

Check what power it's making.

It should be between 580bhp and 590bhp, but it's not sooting up all four exhausts equally, one is a bit less so I want to get it checked.

I took the owner of my local Skoda dealers for a little spin in the yellow beastie too when I was in there the other day.

I think the colour may have returned to his face by now... :D

Saw this a couple of days after Richard got it (in blue) and thought what a machine but in that yellow it is insane - in a good way though.

Took my boss out in it last week and he reported back with something along the lines of "unbelievable, I 'soiled' myself" (obviously there were some profanities in there not to be repeated).

Another top job

I was coming off the A406 in my greenline you came across the redbridge roundabout. Was a few cars back so you wouldn't have seen me. Behind you all the way till eastway. I'm dreading the start of the Olympics

Spent a few hours down at Abbey Motorsport this afternoon.

They have a hub dyno. So no variables of tyre pressure, traction etc... it produces a real bhp figure that is being delivered to the wheels.

Better IMO that running on a typical "Rolling Road" and then estimating what the engine is producing and what is being delivered to the wheels.

Only problem is, it's pretty much a two hour job to set up, run the car and then take the car off. But worth it to get a real world reading.

Notice they also don't run the car with the bonnet up and huge fans on, like just about every rolling road I've seen. So you have the airflow into the engine bay the car would really have when driving, again giving a more realistic real world figure.

Suction fans mean you don't get the full effect of the exhaust at high rpm though, which is a shame.

It made just a smidge under 500bhp to the wheels, which translates into around 580 at the back of the engine.

That looks awesome in Yellow... I didn't think it would but wow!

I have to say when I saw the pictures from the wrapper I was not 100% sure either.

But to see the car in real life it does look nice. It grows on you as at first it's a bit of a shock being such a big car in a bold colour.

Fortunately there is enough black on the car to keep the yellow (just) under control. :)

You certainly get noticed...

Even the doziest lorry driver should see this one :)

 No more road grey for me. :giggle:

I already notice people see me much earlier and give me more space on the road now over the metallic grey one.

I agree on the hub dynos, I tried explaining all the benefits in the mark 1 fab section but people still refused to believe the figures lol but hey ho, does look good, it's def growing on me, the wheels are really really nice suit it perfect.

I do love those old skylines, they sound ridiculous, there are a few knocking about my way, they look like they shift, turbo sound is unreal

What about the uneven exhaust soot, any reason for it? Anything to worry about ?

Good luck with her, keep her between the hedges

I simply love these cars.... amazing feeling to actually drive one....maybe one day I'll own one!!

Yeah it's a suck it and see colour, but I think it suits the fairly rare nature of the car, a nice brigh orange would be my choice!

From testing it yesterday, it's just the way the airflow leaves the exhaust. As you lift off at high RPM you get a small puff. But the particles seem to favour one side even though it's blowing gas out of both equally. Fortunately I had them power coated black so you don't really notice it now.

a nice bright orange would be my choice!

Funnily I did consider orange.

But somebody else in the GTROC did that in January and enough people liked it that the wrapper has already done about half a dozen in orange.

I wanted to be different. :)

Hub dynos are the second best way........(first is the very expensive "take the engine out and dyno the engine")................but not many people have hub dynos because it takes longer to set up......BUT as you say the results are more accuarate, less tyre damage, and NO chance of the car coming off the rollers.....as in many UTube vids!!!!
