1.9TDI BXE reconditioned hybrid turbo based on GT1749VC (PD170)

Hi, are you still supplying these turbos? Can i ask who makes them and what I'd need to upgrade on my golf tdi to run 170bhp (ish)? Would i just need a decent map or would it require injectors etc too? Thanks.

Hi,

yes I do have 3 in stock at the moment, I do work with a turbo shop who makes them for me their name won't tell you anything anyway... I've got one of those hybrids fitted in my own car (Octavia mk2 BXE PD105) and it's mapped to 175bhp/400Nm with stock injectors @1.6bar So if your injectors are in good condition you shouldn't need anything else...

cheers

If i bought it and fitted it would the car run good enough to drive to a garage (about 40 miles away) for it to be mapped. And also what is the delivery charge?

Thanks.

assuming you have no remap done already and you adjust the stop screw properly you can run it for as long as you wish, stock map won't harm the turbo

delivery is £15, if you pay by paypal it's £380 delivered

Great, are there any other ways to pay not incurring the PayPal charge?

paypal personal paymet (previously called Gift), cash on collection, bank transfer, postal order (but it's not free so...)

Hi mate, I've tried to pm you but cant figure out how sorry. I'd prefer the non paypal fee way if possible, so the personal gift would be great. (Guessing thats still through paypal but no fee's attached?) how do i go about ordering one then? Thanks.

So i thought i'd leave a review of the turbo i bought from @xman750 as above, got it within 2 days of paying which was a great delivery service, and checked over it with the conclusion that it's actually a very good quality rebuild, There was a balancing report included to show it had been done properly and generally the feel of it was good. I fitted the turbo last weekend to my stock Golf MK5 TDI and have been very happy with the results. It took a few days to bed in, initially the actuator was a bit stiff and didnt want to move, but a few runs it loosened up and boosted well.

Hopefully everyone else who's bought one of these has had a similar good experience, I thought with it being a good price and a good quality product i should review it and give others confidence in it if they're thinking of buying.

Thanks again xman750!

thx for the review mate, I'm running one of these myself so I'm pretty confident with the quality, if you won't be to hard on it and take care of the engine (regular service/oil change) it will last for years.

Here is a RR printout from my car with this hybrid fitted:

it was mapped to around 120bhp than fitted with the hybrid and remapped again to 175bhp/400Nm @1.6bar of boost with stock PD105 injectors, running fine since September 2013 (done around 10.000 miles)

Are you happy with the 175bhp or are you thinking of getting some more? i spoke to the guys as Darkside last week and they said if you fitted pd150 injectors you could see 220bhp quite easily.

well definitely not happy ;) I'm planning on replacing the whole engine with a BRR from Transporter T5 (more robust) which is already rebuilt, with ported head, and fit new 5.0TDI injectors (with uprated nozzles if necessary) + GTB2260vklr turbo to get 250-260bhp 550Nm as reliable as possible.

I wouldn't push the hybrid to much on BXE as there were some issues with failing crankshaft bearings and conrods going for a walk through the block ;) (some bad batch of bearings wearing excessively etc...)

More details here: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=97192

I've asked the remap place where the hybrid was fitted to check the bearings before doing anything else and it seems like I'm the lucky one and the bearings are just fine but still wouldn't risk spending much more money on it knowing what I know now...

I hope to complete the project this year but it's hard to be left without a car for over 2 weeks...

Haha i've been thinking exactly the same thing with regards to the weak BXE engines, every case i've seen though has been on cars on an 07 plate or newer, i'm hoping that mine being an 06 is exempt from the problem! (fingers crossed). It has had me intruiged though as it's clearly an issue VW/SKODA are choosing to ignore!

Sounds like some good plans, i'd of thought 250 - 260 BHP would be a walk in the park for that kind of set up? Or is that what you mean, you want to keep it as reliable as possible too?

well the issue is well known but Skoda doesn't seem to care... and yeah this is my daily driver which I use for holiday trips to Poland like twice a year so some major failure in middle of Europe would be a disaster for my family (imagine being stuck in a middle of Belgium with angry wife, hungry dog and two notty children LOL) not to mention finding someone who would be able to fix such setup in foreign country wouldn't be easy as well so I want to take it easy the pick power is not as important to me as the overall driveability and responsiveness but reliability is my main concern.

Couldnt agree more in terms of reliability, i considored rebuilding mine with proper parts but after doing some research decided to take my chances and hope for the best :) ha although i dont have the same risks as you, a break down during a road trip with wife, kids, dog would be an absoulte disaster!!

DId you rebuild the engine you're putting into it yourself? or buy it rebuilt? Do you need a new ECU to go with that or will your old one work once remapped?

the head was rebuilt and ported by a company specialising in head rebuilds, the engine was done by another company doing engines and it was put all together by a place which will be fitting the engine for me and mapping the car, old ecu will be fine as far as I'm concerned

Hello, are these still available? I have a 2006 MY Octavia 2 with a BXE engine and DSG gearbox. She has been with me since five years now, and I have been looking at increasing the poke from the engine. After reading around the threads here, I was planning on getting a remap, but now this hybrid turbo has got my attention. My car is is in stock condition and I am not looking at a crazy amount of power - I would be happy going to 140hp and anything above that is a bonus, The questions I have are:

  • Will it be enough to install this turbo and getting a remap done? I have read on here that it may be necessary to install a front mounted intercooler to help with the additional heat?
  • Should I be worried about the DSG because of the increased torque?
  • Is this listing for a complete turbo or do I need to send the old one in?
  • Should I look at a DSG remap too after the install to exploit the additional power?
  • Do you offer international shipping?

I read that the hybrid turbo will be more reliable than the stock one - I like that, but will the installation of the hybrid turbo affect overall reliability of the engine?

Thanks for taking the time to read!

Cheers

Hi,

I'm sorry for the late reply didn't follow that topic would be way easier if you contact me via PMs if yo are still interested. Basically it would be bolt on upgrade, I wouldn't worry about DSG the power increase won't be that huge to affect it, you do already have front mounted intercooler as stock and it can be shipped to anywhere really
