Confused / Indecisive about Brake choice - 1.9 TDi

Recommended Posts

Okay, so im thinking the following for my brakes changes - just want to double check im picking the correct sizes,

and if they are a decent setup for bog standard, daily road use, 1.9 TDi 90bhp ambiente?

Discs - Pagid

Pads - Pagid

as an aside, i was also thinking of doing the drop links at the same time, while the wheels are off, as they are wearing out too. Are these correct size, and decent?

Personally I'd go for the Pagids. I don't know about the drop link. Also, cross reference the prices on carparts4less, it's Eurocarparts 'outlet' shop. If you use Eurocarparts, use the BRISK25 code for 25% off :)

I just put in the Promo code, and it says its in valid or expired?

am i right in recalling that if they have a sale on the code doesnt work?

EDIT:

Promo code chill25 on braking stuff for 25% off at the mooment, thats probably why Brisk25 isnt working...

yes, that's correct :)

I dont know if im over thinking it, but i just checked vagcat to make sure i picked the correct sizes for the discs and pads in the links i posted above.

all i got was a tad more confused, as im now less sure if the 280mm discs are correct, despite putting all car details into ECP website -

is it Teves or FSiii braking system?

instinct tells me the 256mm discs are for the 1.4 petrol, 280mm for diesel and Teves 288mm for the vRS?

but ECP have a 232mm disc option as well?

God i wish i was mechanic...

FS III woohoo should be the right ones then without taking wheel off in the rain to attempt to measure. Drums could do with being replaced and new shoes too....... might leave drums until MOT time later in year, discs and pads are quite badly needed.

Yeah my discs and pads were £77.60 inc ROI shipping (£9.50)

If you want heres the full list of rear drum bits - ecp pt ids

Drum - 105780018

Shoes - 102440218 (full set both sides)

Wheel cylinders - 134440218

H/Brake cable - 108441418 (need 2, as i learned, but didnt need them as they were still in good nick)

All pagid, total inc shipping to ROI £130.76

I did the fronts in 2013 and pads are still over 60% after about 45k...

Unless your wheels are 14" in which case you might need 256mm? According to here.

Same price today for front discs and pads but 25% off making it just under £63 delivered. I can get them from Halfords but take near 2 weeks to order in.... at £77.80 odd but I have £50 worth of vouchers I can use in there I got from work so might be best option....

Bled clutch today as it was a bit crap and WHAT a difference! Smoother lighter and more feel for the bite.

Ordered them in Halfords on 28th May to my local ish store and meant to be in on 6th, weren't there when I called :( Said would be there the next day, so I left it a couple more until I was next passing and went in.... still no sign manager very embarrassed. Turns out Halfords get them from Euro Car Parts lol. Called in today after work and person at counter said when I told her I am checking to see if my parts had arrived 'oh..... that's not the brakes order is it??', then tells me that only part of it had come in 1 brake disc and '1 pads', I asked to see what had come in suspecting what turned out to be the case and it was all there they just couldn't comprehend 2 pagid discs in that thick box.... All in after my vouchers I had to blow £27.20 :)

Went home had a bit of an OAP kip and then fired them on, ahhhhhhhh brakes! Wasn't sure if I needed pads with brake wear sensor, so ordered them just in case (could always chop wire off same price to the penny, did need them in end :D

Not new, but not something that will get used much, new discs and pads on both cars now. Needed it for Fabia for rear brakes mainly £11.49 delivered, can't go far wrong.
