Found a car - that will be a no then!

How much would you be after??

Also interested in Steve's car. I am looking for one sooner rather than later though...come on Steve, what's your price?

Sorry I've just seen this. I was thinking of putting it on at £12,900, but unfortunately a couple of months away I suspect as I need to check on when factory order is going to arrive by.

Cheers

Steve

Strange... That's just in my limit (set by the ball and chain by the way) I will see how long I can hold out for mate. We are off camping in April and need the car by then to lug all the a stuff down.

I don't want to step on Polo's toes, but if he can't make it to Cambridge for first dibs, I certainly can.

So I'm just back from looking at this:-

Pics are off the dealers website. They want £11,985 for it. However, the wheels have since been refurbed - so no longer diamond cut, they are just plain silver. Both passengers side door handles have damage. It has 4 new tyres, just been serviced & would come with 6 months tax. Interior is clean & it drives well.

They gave me a valuation of £3750 on my jetta (paid £5750 for it in Oct 2012) - just thinking about it now.

Do you know what make and model tyres have been put on?  Some garages have a tendency to put on whatever is cheapest.  Not that I'm saying cheap is nasty, but if they are "elcheapo ditch-seeker pro 2" then you may want to factor in £500 for new rubber all round.

For example, one car I bought a couple of years ago had less than 3mm tread on the fronts, so the garage furnished it with new tyres.  Unfortunately they put these on: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Fullrun/HP199.htm

One of the tyres I stuck on the spare wheel, and the other is still in my garage waiting for me to turn it into an ape swing for the kids.

They were Kuhmo Ecsta's. So decent make, no need to replace them.

I use Nankangs on my mk5 jetta. Never had any issues unless it was snowing!!! Only reason I chose them was due to their size & width.

That's me back from seeing the above car. Unfortunately no Superb!!

Gear linkage stiff, unable to confidently get 1st or 2nd. (Oh it's been sat in gear with the handbrake off for a few weeks)

4 odd tyres, all cheapo makes. Ok plenty of thread, but not a good sign. All 4 wheels badly kerbed, one has a chunk missing.

Couldn't open bonnet as catch seized solid.

Plastic surround that's on the tailgate, between the 2 buttons was damaged and not sitting in place, meaning the twin door couldn't be operated correctly.

Paint looks like it's been washed with wire wool.

Moss growing on the passengers side window seals.

He wants £6500 for it. But I recon I could get it for £5750. £750 left over for work to be done. But really I think it's more work than I'd be willing to put into it.

Then while I'm out I get a text from a friend in the trade who has heard of a 60 plate that's been traded into the Skoda dealers in Dunfermline. I was in the area anyway, so it would be rude not to!!

Here she is:-

It's a CR140 SE. With 29k on the clock. However as you can see from the pics, damage to the bumper, damaged wheels, but 4 new tyres (all good makes) But the kicker is the interior looks & smells like an ash tray. And it isn't officially for sale by the dealer as they weren't going to retail it due to its condition. So it's going to auction.

Oh well, the hunt continues - I have 13 weeks to go!!

+1 and get the air con system serviced and "refreshed" with the anti-microbial treatment for £70 to help get rid of the stink. Edited by JakeBlade

They'll be punting it to the auction because it falls short of their standards and they cant be @rsed tidying it up. Lots of plusses for the dealer if you take it:

Price certainty for the car

No auction fees

Get their hooks into you for future business

All of which shuld give you decent leverage for an excellent price.

Trade price they offered was Category 3 (below average condition) - £5490. But like I said it stunk. The steering wheel had a yellow tint, as did the roof lining & most of the switchgear. And I stopped counting after I found 11 burns on the back seat (behind the driver)

A bargin for somebody - but not me. Found a £9000 elegance estate with 98k on the clock. That the next viewing!!!

Avoid that one then, if you are a non smoker. Valeting aside, I don't think you'd ever get rid of that stink completely. The seat foams will be permeated.

And as for nicotine stains - yuck!

That'll end up as a minicab with 20 magic trees in permanent service.

Just sent 2 emails to dealers down south (300+ miles away) to see if they are still available.

£9200 - elegance 170cr with 124k on the clock - 2011 plate.

Or

£8990 - elegance 170cr with 98k on the clock - 2010 plate.

Both estates. As much as I love the twin door - the hatch isn't big enough for pram & dog cage. One or other fits, but not both at the same time. So estate it is.

Had a call from dealer selling this one:-

4be35d5b0f681804e4128abd27f673ac_zps1d10

He's dropped the price to £6000. Not sure if it's worth a punt. It's a PD 140 with 128k on it, SE. I could maybe do with an estate, but this would be a step up from what I have. Plus he offered me £4500 for my Jetta.
