Performance cars,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I don't think it matter to be honest, you don't have to have a huge amount of power to have fun in a car. modern turbocharged Diesel engines give a supercharged petrol type performance with virtually instantaneous torque on tap, there's virtually no difference in running costs either. So you pays your money and takes your choice.

it also depends largely on what 'performance' cars you are comparing too.

Slightly inebriated or not, I will stand by my comments.

Because performance is more than just torque and bhp, it's the whole experience too. Take, for example, F1 now, it sounds boring, no rise or fall of an engine singing, the car may be faster, more economical, but it's lost something.

Diesels are all slow, smelly, smokey polluting things that sound like tractors.

I think a big part of a performance car is the sound it makes. The turbo whistle on diesels is lovely and I know certain diesels have a real growl v6 v8 v10 etc. BUT. A diesel could never sound like an AMG v8 or RB26dett or b16b etc.

my point being I think diesels can be performance cars but not in the same way that petrol powered cars are.

I would like veyron with 2000 lbft though... haha and 40mpg.
