Lumpy fast idle following misfire.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well good news (sort of) ... my car passed the oil consumption test. I've requested the report.

Bad news, the symptoms seem to be getting worse, oil stank of fuel before I gave it back and they suggested I could collect the car tomorrow or Monday. I said I'd rather keep the courtesy car until mine's fixed.

They are awaiting a report back from SUK for what to do next... so far I've clocked up circa 420 miles travelling to and from the dealer.

Really the bores and rings need inspecting I think. Or at least go over all the systems with a fine tooth comb first.

I dunno. Any advice would be appreciated.

My plan is to wait to hear what the next action is, if I'm not happy with it I'll give SUK a ring as this is getting silly.

Obvious problem with the engine, so far 4 spark plugs changed, software update, compression test (which was low) and an oil consumption test.

No, that's a shape shifter!

Compression was low on all pots? They do need a borescope investigation performed really, or perhaps if you can buy/borrow one you do it yourself? In my experience low compression (not gone completely, just lower than it should be) is due to rings not sealing the bore. It could be valves as well but less likely.

Have a read of the above, very interesting!

I don't know whether it was all or one. I suspect one. I'm not getting great success in being able to see the reports or details, they're being quite closed about it. Given the smelly oil rings/bores seem a good suspect.

I'll chase on Monday.

Cheers for the link.

This is your property. You paid for the metal AND warranty service and you are entitled to all the information produced (reports etc) as a result of warranty work-you paid for it afterall. Reluctance in providing you with investigation reports might be stemming from the fact thet they know they are not doing what any automotive engineer worth his/her salt knows needs to be done. To take further the conspiracy theory one might stretch to think that if they they are paid for compression testing warranty work by SUK which in the good book is priced as 2 hours of labour for all four cylinders and they only spend 25 mins and do only one then they are quids in and can employ less people ;).

Anyway, let's where will get to on Monday.

Well it's safe to say I'm starting to get frustrated. In fact I may just about be ready to leave frustration behind in favor of anger.

Having sent the oil consumption test off on Friday (it passed) my dealership are STILL awaiting action from Skoda technical on what to do next. As far as I'm aware my car's just sat there. Technical asked them to compare it to a similar vehicle... which they don't have. Sounds scientific ...

What a joke. I just know that I'll be making the 60 mile round trip to pick up my yet to be fixed car AGAIN later this week.

It's a great car but I'm starting to regret having bought it. If I'd waited and got a cthe or been lucky to not have any issues I'd still be over the moon but I'm starting to resent the little bogey coloured b*****d.

I'm not even sure I can being on a pcp pay monthly type scheme. Not sure where I stand where that's concerned.

Besides I wouldn't want to sell a faulty car, unless it was back to the dealership.

Why do you both not contact your Local Trading Standards,

see about having a Specialist Motor Engineers Report done on the vehicles,  & then the Trading Standards can look at action against Skoda UK.

Just contact your Skoda UK Customer Services Handler, tell them if they are not prepared to take Action to have your Vehicles Faults Rectified under

the Manufacturers Warranty you will be required to have an Independent Diagnosis done, and start legal proceedings.

That is what you need to do really.

The Skoda Technical Team know what the Issues are with your cars, find out why things are not proceeding as they should.

Car fixed and of Merchantable Quality, known issues fixed.

Those being the various Design, Manufacturing, Quality Control & Engine Management Failures on Engines Built 2009- 2012 by Volkswagen.

For info when its compression tested all 4 should be similar mine where cyl 1, 2, 4 all 160 psi cyl 3 was zero. Fault was melted piston on cyl 3 and resolve via new engine which im currently running in.

I can not understand the running in of the New Engine or Remanufactured engine from the VW Factory.

The year 2014 and modern Engine Building of the engine in a used car.

It is not getting an oil change for 9400 miles unless they make you stick to the cars original Annual Service, or by the Mileometer.

They just need driving IMO.

Its in the owners manual George and also stressed by my dealership. A certin style of driving upto 1000km and then a littlr spirited drive upto 1500km then jobs a good one. By all accounts from skoda mine is a new engine not a recondition unit. All nice and shinney lol.......

They do not build new CAVE engines,

the original ones were failing and needed replacing. So unless you got a New Old Stock, which up to now has been no better sometimes than what came out the car.

& you do not get a New CTHE if the car had a CAVE Engine so replacements are a Hybrid, CAVE with CTHE parts & a CAVE ECU & Map,  as i understand it.

That comes from the VW Factory that Remanufactures engines.

I agree with George. I was told the car has to have done less than 10,000 mile if I remember to get a brand new engine.

In all fairness the refurbished engines do look brand new. I got to see mine on the delivery crate and if I wasn't told it was a reconditioned one I would say it was brand new by looking at it.

Well what every is in it, it looks new and is currently being run in. With any luck running it in properly and driving it properly may result in a good long lasting engine this time. When i bought the car it was a 1 owner with 26k on it and they could have been hard miles without being properly run in so now its piece of mind.

Also 4 new plugs, 4 new coil packs and new clutch packs its like a new car....to sn extent.

Im not too sure i would of thought so, but i didnt enquire about then. But im waiting for an itemised list of everything that has been replaced. Have you done anything with v5? I asked my dealer and skoda uk and they both said i dont need to do anything.... Strange i thought.

Was told the same thing mate, apparently they transferred my old engine number to the new engine. Had my service booked stamped up with date and mileage when engine was changed.

Hopefully if you get one like mine it will be a good one. 1600 mile done and no oil use.

You do not have to do anything is untrue, unless they did it,

It is a Like for Like replacement engine, but you want the Receipt and the Letter confirming

they have the Original Engine Number now on the Replacement or they are notifying DVLA, and the New Engine Numbers.

My dealership wouldnt even stamp my service book as they said its warrenty work and they dont stamp for that.

1600 mile in no oil, nice one mate. Did you run it in? Ive done 125miles so a way off yet :-(

They get paid to do the job start to completion.

If the Replacement Engine now has the Original Engine Numbers on it,

The Dealership should have no issues with a Headed Letter with the Workshop Manager & Technicians names and Signed.

Just for the Future Owners, VOSA or the DVLA, in case of an Accident, Theft or the Likes and an Insurance Claim,

They are after all trusted & professionals, not Kerb Side Autos.

The Future Owner needs the Likes of the Service Book with Engine Replaced Mileage,

so that they know when 40,000 miles of the Spark Plugs gas passed etc.

My dealership said they run the engines in at the factory, so I could leave there like a bat out hell if I wanted, I didnt take their advive and choose to treat it like a new car and looks like it has helped

George
