Retrofitting ACC (Adaptive Cruise)

Recommended Posts

As my vehicle is one of the lucky ones which came with front assist as standard, I went into one dealer today to see about retrofitting ACC.

Unfortunately the technician couldnt help, as there was nothing on the system for retrofitting it. So as far as he could tell, it wasnt yet possible.

Whether that is correct or not, i dont know.

Anyone know for sure?

Well I asked abut doing this for my car which will be coming at some point this year, presumably without front assist. The radar (which you already have) is £434, and in theory all you need then is the steering column cowl and cruise stalk, slog with some labour and coding the ACC to be active. My dealer suggested it would be cost prohibitive, so I didn't perdure any further, however as I LOVE ACC on my Audi I will probably look into this again at some point...

It thought you had a vRS?

Nah!

Most definitely not!

I may be daft, but paying more money for an inferior car (it doesnt have cruise!!)?

So your dealer suggested it was definitely possible, just cost prohibitive?

Interesting. Perhaps i shall try another dealer.

We didn't get very far, but definitely they thought it could be done, and that was on a car with no radar in the first place.

Also - try these guys, they are Audi/VW retrofit specialists and actually undertake a lot of work that my local Audi dealer sends their way for work that Audi wouldn't want to endorse themselves. They may be able to help.

Let me know how you get on! Feel free to mention you know of someone else looking for similar if it helps push them to give you a good deal as they will get to do the second one with less unknowns!

you will require the radar

I don't think any of the retrofit business will undertake this and a dealer certainly won't considering thay struggle to sort issues with cars that had it fitted from the factory

I already have the radar.

Has ACC been causing problems?

It is more than a bit of coding required and a few bits.

The function won't activate unless you have the PIN to activate it, which you can only get from the factory.

Plenty of people have tried retrofitting MIB Columbus, Driving Profile selection and a few other things - extra code is needed to be uploaded to modules then it still doesn't work as the car knows what functions it should have - the PR codes on the sticker in the boot are used at the end of the production line to activate, licence and code the functions on the car.

Good luck, Skoda may eventually come up with a method of allowing it to be fitted by dealers, but seeing as standard cruise was costing about £350 as a dealer retrofit I wouldn't expect a huge amount of change out of £500 if you already have FA, or a grand if you don't.

If they can do it for a grand I'll snap their hand off for it. As I say, I have it now and use it a lot, am gonna miss it big time on long journeys.

Cheers Andy. Well whatever is needed, i shall see what another couple of dealers say. Looking like its probably not possible yet. Assuming its a genuine Skoda retrofit, the extra PIN shouldnt be too much of a problem i assume. But as i say, will try a couple of others

Emailed satnavsystems, and they cant help.

Dont think im going to bother with my actual dealer (dealer i tried before wasnt the one i bought the car from), as im not sure id get anywhere. You hardly ever see the technicians, and doubt anyone else would know. I just took the car back there to see if they could sort out my headlight washers (which dont seem to be popping out and washing), and they wanted to book me an appointment for a weeks time nearly. For what could be a simple job, Im surprised nobody decided to have a look there and then. Nope, come back in a week. Cant do anything before then.

So asking them about ACC? Nah, think I will wait until i pass a completely different dealer at some point.

For what's its worth, the headlight washer problem is a common fault and any dealer should be able to adjust them for you so they pop out easily.

Cheers.

Ive heard of the problem where the washers dont retract after operation, but hadnt heard of them not popping out to begin with.

Im guessing its a simple job.

I may pop round to another dealer on Monday (actually closer to home than my dealers) and see if they can sort them out there and then.

I dont fancy another 40 mile round trip if i can help it.

No dealer will ever likely fit you in there and then, just call up and see if they have a quick slot sooner than a week away.

Yep, unless it's actually broken down no dealer will look at it there and then, they're workshops are always really busy.
