VW golf mk2 vs Ariel Atom

Recommended Posts

Check this video out. This is a Mk1 Golf that Trevor Reeves, one half of the Reeves bothers built. It's quite well known on the Golf scene they also built a Mk2 as well.

The Mk1 is being driven around Spa destroying everything in its path the guy driving it certainly know how to drive. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Oj6YBdXQZMs

Having been to the Ring knowledge is power. Once that Golf was past the Atom you could see the increase in speed and good lines through the corners.

I'll never forget my first visit and being past by a pair of GT3s like I was at a standstill :o

Problem with it now is the price, 2 years ago it was 22 euros a lap  now I've heard it's 27!!!!!

I always fancied an Astra van or escort in my college days, slammed with the back full of speakers.

I'll try and get a snap of it but there's a highly modded Mk4 Astravan kicking around Stafford. It chuffing shifts, I suspect it has the GSi 2ltr in it but i've not been close enough to it. Sits low and looks rather good.

Seeing this video is suddenly made me realise how much I miss my mk2. So close to being finished now, will be a delight to have the first blast in 5 months.

This is the on board view from the Atom! This car is a real handful as you'll see. The driver is regular VLN racer Dale Lomas who is no Slouch. This just makes the old golfs performance even more impressive. Dale eats, breaths ,sleeps, works and lives for the ring.

Love the wicked SC noise!

Edit.. Nigel is a Yorkshire bloke who does one visit a year to the ring ( you'd never believe it)

The above proves power is nothing without down force!

I've posted this video of me with lap record holder Micheal Vergers before but it's a good example of how a car with about 210 bhp is quicker than one with 300 bhp and similar weight. It's not fast on the straights but corner speed is comical ! Just watch how it reals in 193mph gt3's in the corners.

Power to weight too though. I dunno what that little car was, but i doubt it weighed much.

Can defo tell how well he knows the track

Wha did he set the lap record in?

Doubt he'd of got past that GTR in that if the gtr driver knew the track n was a good driver too lol.

The Radical SR3 weighs 570kg and the Atom weighs 612 kg so not much in it.

Mr Vergers set the lap record for road legal car in the SR8 which was driven from Peterbourgh to the Nurburgring set record on road legal Dunlop trackday tyres then drove home . It did have a support Crewe though.

However the Gernans don't fully accept this record as you can't buy the SR8 in Germany and drive it on the road legally unlike the UK. Not that you'd want to drive such a beast on the road lol!

While I'm on a roll with video posting ( posted this before but you might of missed it) this is the 1.3 Haybussa turbo version of the weedy NA 1.3 version I rode in to destroy 100k + super cars lol.

It's not bad for a 1.3 litre!

There are videos of a rather tasty Mk 2 Golf on YouTube, tuned by a German outfit named Boba Motorsport if I remember correctly; it is 4wd and approximately 1150bhp. It sounds amazing and goes like the clappers.

There are also a number of videos of the "Royal Nail" escort van, formerly Royal Mail but the owner was reportedly told off for still having it stickered up. Again 4x4 running gear and a souped up Coswrth engine, makes for interesting viewing.

I'm sure someone will find these videos and post them. I loves me a sleeper.
