1.4tdi egr clean

Recommended Posts

It makes for interesting reading, I believe my car is running great, so I will unplug mine on the drive to work this morning and see how mine behaves, I'll let you know.

Watching how to clean one on YouTube, seems very straight forward, so it's got to be worth a try.

Ok, So unplugged the MAF sensor and drove to work this morning as normal.

It made absolutly no difference what so ever, no warning light on the dash, low end pull is the same, pulls clean all the way to 4000rpm, and still hit my usual mpg range (75-80) for the 7 mile B-Road trip.

So ill plug it back in and leave well alone

My experience with vag cars (mk1 tt in this case) is that a faulty or removed maf will bring up a warning light and fault code. If the maf is just reading inaccurately it won't, but unplugging it should of I would have thought.

I couldnt agree more, Ive unplugged other sensors to which it threw the orange engine light straight on, But in this case, Nothing!

Engine was running when i unplugged it so ill see when i start it to drive home if it comes on then (its still unplugged)

Ill run Dashcommand on the way home to and see what reading i get from the MAF channel while its uplugged.

Yep can confirm when I started her to drive home the light came straight on!.

Anyway plugged back in and fault code cleared, it's interesting to know I did all that for nothing!! Ha Ha.

I had to replace the maf on said tt, no warning light or code as it was just wrong...but still working.

I used torque to read it and compared to what it should be (Google).

Maybe try the same with the dash command. The tt came alive afterwards. Was an utter money pit though hence it got px'd for the fabia. I miss the extra 45bhp though :-(

Sorry I ramble.

I'm going to take mine out and clean it 2moro anyway, it's a 10 min job and I've got the right stuff to do it with, so I might aswell.

I am a believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but every man likes to tinker!!!!!

If you take it to a vag specialist garage they can check if the values the maf is providing is what it should be. Even if the values are within 10 percent of what they should be it will make a difference. People already know the difference between using 97ron and 99ron.

My brother picked up a 1.6tdci zetec s a few months ago. It was running a little rough to what I expected so I unplugged the maf and the car ran better. Once we fitted a new maf it ran like a different car. The maf signal is one of the main inputs the ecu uses so it's not dissmissable for me. If you don't feel it's an issue then at the end of the day it's you that drives the car daily so you will know what your car should feel like

Hi,

I would like to hear if there is any update on this. I have a 1.4 TDI Ibiza which I assume is very similar to this and our problems are the same. Max 42mpg and the car does get a few motorway miles on a daily basis (20 mile round trip)
