Hello,

We today have picked up a second hand Yeti from our local main dealer, so far so good, although pulling into the drive on the way home I heard some metal scatter across the road.

I got out and found this:

Does anyone recognise it? There are no markings or anything?

Our drive is off the entrance to the development we live on so it could well be from another car?

Anyway, here is the Yeti (my wifes), next to my car...

That is a battery clamp. It looks well used so I would say its not off your Yeti. I had exactly the same clamp on one of my Suzuki's, a VW Polo or Rover ZR. The clamp react against the lower ridge around the bottom of the battery and the battery tray.

You can just see a similar clamp on this video...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ly0HXNz2EE

better still shot of clamp here...http://rennlist.com/forums/diy-submission-forum/630250-porsche-996-diy-battery-replacement.html

Spot on that man, battery clamp

It does look old, so agree it probably isn't from your car

I was having cold sweats over this last night trying to rack my brains  OK not quite

On another note cheers for the pics Alec

Don,

From what I have seen it is a very common part on lots of European cars, especially German ones, where it is used to clamp the bottom of the battery instead of using a strap over the top of the battery . A very similar one is used on the Freelander, too; they are a pain as they corrode and the bolt though them rounds off or the nut gets stuck on.
