Can I use this oil?

Recommended Posts

Iirc the oil spec is 5w30, and has to be equivalent to VAG 507 oil, someone may correct me on this, but that's what I got from TPS for the service I did on my 1.8TSI

504.00 is the VW spec for petrol engines, if it meets that then yes.

504.00 is for variable service; 502.00 if you're on fixed service i.e. 10,000 miles.

My car's well out of warranty now so I've just cleared the counter in the maxi-dot.  I use 504.00 and have an oil and filter change every 10,000 miles; other items - e.g. pads, plugs - when they're needed.

Servicing is the most almighty rip-off: £200 for "check windscreen wipers", "grease hinges" etc???  The CRUCIAL thing is the oil; other things can be checked when you're in for MOT or tyres e.g. steering, brakes.  Pay careful attention to the noises and feel of the car as you're driving, of course.

The key here is to check the container for the all important VW codes.

As pointed out above VW 504.00 would be ideal.

You need

2.0 PD

505.01 9k change

506       Variable LL

507       Variable LL

2.0 PD DPF

507 Low ash Longlife drop optional

2.0 CR DPF

507

Not all FS oils are suitable, ideally it should say B3 B4 or VW approved on the bottle

The whole thing is about high pressures, a 5/30 is a good oil until it gets to the point where it can't lube a point that is under intense pressure.

Check the OP

It's a Petrol, not a diesel.

( Still off topic, as well as it's lubricating ability, a significant reason for using 507.00 in a modern diesel is its low ash formulation to reduce clogging of the DPF)
