drop difference..

Recommended Posts

i want to lower my car, there are planty of pictures of lowered cars but they never post before-after, basically i cant decide what drop to go for and what it will look like compare to now...not sure whether to go for springs and drop it like 30mm (which doesnt seem much at all) or something like that:

any advice?

if you have a vRS those springs are not going to drop your car that much as the vRS is already lower than the standard model.

You need to make sure that any springs you buy are not for a Golf as some suppliers will send you golf ones despite saying Octavia in the description. The golf is lighter at the back than the Octavia, so the ride height on an Octavia will be all wrong on golf springs.

there have been lots of similar threads if you search

eibachs (advertised as -30mm, lower the vrs around 10-15mm only):

on weitec coilovers about -45mm vs stock height (bit too low for daily driver IMO especially if you have to carry stuff/drive over speed bumps/ have a wife that nags if it scrapes):

if you go for 50mm springs on standard shocks i have been told by a few people who have done this that it will knacker your shocks after a few thousand miles. the best option is to go for some blistein B8s that will allow for a greater drop.

i however recently installed a set of 35mm H&R springs to my otherwise standard vrs hatch. the drop is around 20mm which is quite noticeable from standard, i'll put some before and after pictures up tomorrow :)

thanks for the pic and thank for posting yours later andsoutham most of those i have seen there was nothing noticeble and i have mark2 so looks a bit different .i want to leave it on stadard wheels but just need to drop it a bit so the gap isnt there pretty much without rubbing on arches..

Go measure the arch gap and try a rough calculation of how low you want to go. 20/30mm would be a good drop as there is still a gap between the tyre and arch.

You've inspired me to do the same. I've been mulling over it a while. I see you've not mentioned about changing the struts, am I correct in thinking its just the springs you change? Nice drop. I see your not too far from me (Whiteley junction - Fareham) did you use a local garage or did you do it yourself

if i had the money i would have probably upgraded my dampers to blistein B8s which, ive been told, transform the ride quality. i might still do it when i save up but i think shocks on their own are about £550 from dpm (which is where i got the springs too)

i got them fitted at awesomeGTI during a trip up north however there are certain specialists dotted around the south like VAS works in bournemouth and JKM in portsmouth who i have heard good reviews about. just make sure you get the geo done on a hunder machine afterwards :)

i can promise they are before and after :P i didnt want a huge drop i just wanted something to make the car sit how it should of from factory IMO. the car dropped 2cm all round which is what the springs quoted so i'm happy with it.

Does anybody else not think it's totally stupid about the ride height difference between advertised and actual on a vrs? If it doesnt lower a vrs by 30mm, then don't advertise it as lowering a vrs by 30mm lol.

Sorry, sunday afternoon rant over, surely can't be alone with thinking that can I? :)

agree with you there. I was going to go with the 30mm ones as I didn't want a massive drop, but to be honest on both of the last sets of pictures, I can't tell any difference and I would be annoyed if it was my car

tis sad u can't tell the difference.

the idea of a subtle drop (20-30mm) is so that it looks oem, i.e. like how it should've come from the factory, without being looking like its been modified (dropped).

the 20-30mm drop, though "little", also improves the handling performance.

you can tell the difference in the flesh and with a tape measure! :D . i got what i was after which was a small drop and an even arch gap all the way round the arch. if you dont think its low enough then i suggest some 50mm springs which would give you a real 35mm drop compared to the 20mm drop on my car. you will have to uprate your shocks too though (B8s or similar) as the standard shocks will knacker themselves after a while. alternativley get some coilovers although they aren't renowned for comfort
