Felicia Fun Project

Recommended Posts

Will get some other bits and bobs done tomorrow. It will be coming out on Tuesday or Wednesday then get it down to my mates garage at some point for the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, thermo stat and fuel filter. Then I will do the rear brakes later.

So il see about insurance for it on Monday.

I need to get some more stainless steel screws and washers on monday to, plus some bits for the rear black trim.

Because of this pic I'm thinking about ditching the rear spoiler for a standard peice if trim. If anyone has one or knows of one please let me know. Also losing part of the lip in the arches!

After the mot the pickup will get a good detail inside and out ond under the hood. The wheels will get a good polish then it will probably get dropped again..

So that's it on the -30mm springs now???

I think it's sitting well smart at that!

Low but still looks useable ,like the plate surrounds too!

Think I would keep the standard fit body kit but that's an individual choice and am sure that what ever you dicide it will be done to the same standard as what you have already shown with this project!!

The above pic is the 60mm springs. Iv put the standard ones back on till after the mot as it was going to rub, but the 60mm is the look I want.

I'm thinking of changing the lips on the bbs to make them narrower and have a set of 15" wheels laying I want to refurb.

But il get it on the road first and take it from there...

I want it to ride well and be useable to carry a load so hopefully the 30/35 springs will let me do this

Yeah it's slowed up a bit unfortunately:( I insured it and drove it to my mates garage on the 5th and he manged to mot it on 13th.

2441711D-466B-49CF-984D-4B77D73B1C1C-733

Thought as much about the brakes so had the shoes but my mates ordered 2 wheel cylinders from tps.

He's jam packed busy but done the timing belt and water pump for me yesterday! Hes not even getting time to work on his own car which makes me feel bad.. He says I can go down this satuarday morning and get it on a ramp, then it can all get done!

I fixed the horn, put on new wipers and adjusted the headlight last night so got a head start.

Hopefully if there's time the 30/35 can get fitted but I'm not going to push my luck :)

Had the roof delivered which was from a ford, got it on gumtree for 50quid delivery was 65 but all the glass is the same so it worke out..

Pea shooter exhaust tip on, new plates and surrounds to

Plus my dads Rs6+ was in getting the alternator done last Sunday till 12am!

The mug shot to the girlfriend wondering where I was :D

And the Corrado G60 I swapped for the paint. Have a few regrets:( It was moted last year but was a project I won't have the time or funds for. So hopefully he'll get it in paint:)

@Dubbuds

how did you clean the engine?

what type of paint did you use for the hot parts?

I stripped it to the head and block, degreased it and washed it off.. Rubbed the block down etc etc was a long job. The paint is halfords vht (goes on great) then I cured it with a heat gun.

Chuffed how it turned out but I'm not sure i would do it again!

It's in my long term Mk1 golf project that I've been doing on off for three years. It's in my dads garage but he's really needing it out this winter for his Rs so I need to get a place to keep it..

Well a satuarday shift doing the brakes etc got the fun through its mot with no advisories. The brakes turned out to be a struggle as I was hungover and everything was seized solid. I had to use a puller to get the drums off and the wheel cylinders bolts and brake ferrells were a proper challenge.

That was my pic to keep me to right so I never took a pic of them done.

New wheel cylinders and pads also had a spring kit there to

6046F628-764D-4BD3-A393-3AF1AFBF0AFC-134

The tempteture gauge wasn't working either but a new sensor from euro car parts fixed that.

Also ordered a radiator that i collect tomorrow..

Changed the oil and lowered it again yesterday...

Also this turned up along the street today,

That's only other one Iv seen and its in the same town:) here's hoping it doesn't get decked on bbs :D

I would have liked to keep it but it was needing 2.5k to get it where I wanted it and it just wasn't worth it to me as Iv no where to keep it and its not practical enough.

I've got a mk2 20v I built a while back so there was no need for another hot hatch :)

This is my pride and joy although its hibernating just now:(

Mk2 was a driveway build that I originally bought for £350. It's still in the original paint which is getting tired at bits, but hopefully one day il get a garage then it'll get painted. No point doing it to sit outside

Done a few miles in the fun now ironing out the little bits that are popping up.

Coolant temperature sensor was renewed which solved the non function temperature gauge..

A new radiator was fitted soon after as the original spilt it's guts, so it was lucky I had one sitting waiting in euro car parts. 20 mile journey with no water at all was a nail biter as the fan doesn't work without fluid, but at least the gauge worked,

It's had a good valet inside now and a good polish outside plus a couple seat covers upfront to tone it down a bit!

Rear mudflats were removed as they are not speed bump friendly:)

Gearbox mount is on the list to be replaced along with a new exhaust down pipe gasket.. It's got a slight blow..

My joiner mate is making me up some lengths of hardwood replicating the chamfers on he original. Will get them next week, then I will cut them to the right sizes and stain them ready for fit.

The bed will get a DIY paint job then to and a slight trim to.

Il take an post up some pics later:)

Can anyone help me out and tell me where the needle should be on the tempreture gauge during a normal drive?

A570364C-70E1-4FE0-82DE-F95222A27ADB-393

Mine seems to hover around the last thin line before red and the fan kicks in very regularly.

I'm convinced its running to hot, although it drives great I'm starting to worry about a head gasket or warped head....

I thought maybe the gauge should run in the thicker middle line? Then rise to fan level if idling.

The gauge never worked so I never new where was normal position.

Iv replaced the temp sender with one from euro car parts ( I think it was yellow, il double check this)

I also replace the thermostat from dingbro motor factors... I would have preferred oem stuff here but I couldn't wait..

If I new more then I would have just ordered a full housing which I might still do...

Any help would be great guys

That's running very hot by the sounds of it, ideally should be sitting somewhere between the first line and half way.

Even when sitting in traffic for ages mine only climbs just over half way and then the fan kicks in.

the temperature sender has to be perfectly paired with temperature gauge.

there are 3 types of temp. senders and 3 types of temp. gauges for Felicia.

check part numbers of both and tell us what they are.

only after this verification you can suspect bad thermostat, fan switch or head gasket, although for the latter there are obvious signs.

Thanks for the reply mate... The fan kicks in bang on the last line before the red. It runs not far away from that thou. I'm wondering if the stat is not opening early enough? Is there different ones that maybe open at a lower temp? Could a faulty housing cause that to do you know?

Cheers dohnjoe, I guess the only way to check the part number on the gauge it to strip the clocks?

Not sure if I fancy that tbh

no pain, no gain.

although it's 15 minutes job to get to it.

at least for me, because I did it tens of times on different Felicias.

but anyways, if you are 100% sure you got the original instrument cluster, then it is the wrong sender you are using.

there is a guy on this forum that I helped him with the exact same problem.

he feared too he has a head gasket issue.

although as I said there are other obvious signs for that, not just overheating.

it turned out he bought a bad temp. sender when he changed the thermostat.

one other very common problem at 1.6l  engines is the new thermostat doesn't match the housing.

their plunger is a little shorter and doesn't butt in the housing hence doesn't open completely.

or the stopper of the housing is broke off.

the solution? a new (thermostat housing + thermostat) as a kit.

That's a great reply cheers...

I'm pretty sure it's the original cluster. Il try a new housing and stat and see where that takes me.

Il get a new sender to.. I new I should have went oem with that stuff! I hate buying things twice ;)
