Ok, so decided to crack on with the widemouth tonight.

In preparation for this, I cut down my hugely oversized vinyl plate using the guillotine at work....

So got to my unit later on and out came the angle grinder :)  Quite the mess...

After spending what seemed like an eternity cutting it down, I then went through the grades of file on each edge to get a smoother finish. Followed by a rough then finer grade of paper to get a better finish. End result...

Next out came the mesh. I've bought plastic mesh as I think it looks a lot better than the usual stuff. So I went about cutting the mesh to size and fitting it with a large amount of Tiger Seal!...

I've had to leave the bumper off the car for the night, as I want the Tiger Seal to set properly. So I've weighted the mesh down for the night!...

Should be solid come the morning :)   Then on with the new plate! I'll definitely be getting the bumper re-sprayed next year at a guess, as there's quite a bit of paint that's flaked off in places.

Cheers both! I much prefer it too - plus you don't have to keep painting it black! It's a pain to stick to the back though as it doesn't bend without snapping...

Anyhow..... it's arrived :)  ...

Cheers to Xman for prompt service! Shoved it straight in the boot and dropped it off with Kev for his mate to cut and weld the turbo outlet at the required 90 degree angle.

It's getting to be a case of planning the logistics now. As Kev is helping me fit, plus injectors need to arrive, I need the use of a family member's car, and the company building me a complete custom exhaust need 2 weeks notice! Oh... and John needs to be available for mapping too! Gonna be quite tricky to work all this at once!

Small update for this evening.

I wasn't completely happy with the height, so over the last couple of days I've had to have a bit of trial and error to see what looked best when settled. This evening I put the rear adjusters all the way down, and raised the front by 3 complete turns. I was very impressed with how easily the fronts adjusted too!

Anyhow, here's how she stands currently. Plus one of the widemouth with a clean(ish) car...

I'm really pleased with the stance now. Plus I think that the car actually rides more comfortably than as standard :)  The car will be staying at this height permanently now, even when 17's arrive again.

I also quickly fitted the S2000 aerial that I was kindly given by DanGum! The original was a pain in the arse to pull out due to the lip on the end of it. The new one looks much better...

Next on the list is to get the Airtec fully fitted this weekend. I was on the way out of work yesterday, and had a student who was crossing the road in front of me crouch down and looked through the mesh to see what was there...  Surprise to say I was a bit embarrassed that there was nothing!!

Bit of an update. After having an issue with the FMIC brackets that were supplied, Rob was fantastic and sorted it out swiftly (not his fault I might add!). So last weekend I didn't get to do anything on the car other than wash it. So I decided to crack on with the FMIC install this weekend.

First was stripping the car down to get to the air con radiator's mounting bolts. Within a short space of time this was the state of play...

Got the brackets fitted and then offered the cooler up to make sure it went in ok. Looks nice :) ...

I then re-fitted the surround, which was a pain I might add! It also needed a bit trimming off it to go past the passenger side FMIC bracket at the top. I then spent ages constantly trial fitting the cooler and cutting more material away. Here's some pics of where needed cutting...

I did have a picture of quite a large section of trimming that is required at the bottom part of the surround, but it came out blurry unfortunately.

After about 2 1/2 hours the cooler is finally in place. Here's the pics of it as well as the clearance...

It was getting late, so I'm going to get the pipework fitted tomorrow. The worst is done it's safe to say! So I re-fitted everything and got myself home for the evening! More updates to follow tomorrow :)

Today's work.

Spent most of the day down my unit taking my time with the install to make sure it was spot on. Removed the original cooler and the complete pipework setup. I have to use the original top pipe until I sort out a custom setup, so I cleaned out the inside of the pipes to get rid of any oily residue.

Did the pipes from the turbo to cooler first, then the top pipes. Made sure it all lined up ok and there was sufficient clearance to account for movement. A bit of faffing round with positions of pipes and Jubilee clips and all was sorted :) ...

37128446805_a3d241977a_z.jpg

Excuse the inner arch in the pic - need to get a new one!

Also took the opportunity to clean up the front panel. Ages later with tar remover followed by some SRP and it was looked 100 times better...

37128446305_5dbd551dea_z.jpg

As can probably be seen, I've also fitted my new projectors along with 5000k bulbs. More faffing about later and they're up and running. Unfortunately it turns out that the wiring for one of the lights is dodgy, as the sidelight on the driver's light stays on no matter what. Tried the original light unit and it's fine, along with a few bulbs. So I'll be getting in touch with the seller for a new one to replace it with. Ballasts were neatly mounted on the side with double sided tape. I'm pleased with how it's all gone in neatly...

Been out for a blast this evening. The cooler has made a HUGE difference to how the car is going. The car feels a fair bit quicker, which I really didn't expect! Smoke levels are down, which I did expect :D   Even when I had the Forge FMIC fitted, it didn't pull as hard as this. Smoked more too! Lights are pretty awesome also - huge difference over halogens :)

Another bonus is that it seems I can use my towing eye still!

Pleased!

Looks really good mate, the lights make a huge difference. Take it you had no issues with fitting them haha

I need to come and have a gander, hoping to get me some coilovers ordered in the next couple of weeks as well ;)

Cheers guys!

Yeah whenever you fancy Tom let me know! I'll be a bit tight for time for your coilovers, so will try and squeeze in fitting them when I can.

You're on your own :P Your car was such a pain in the arse changing them and it almost tried to assault me with that spring compressor ;)

Yeah I'm not in a major hurry so I don't mind waiting a bit until you're free, I definitely need the help don't I. Going to brave fitting an EGR delete all by myself soon haha - god only knows how that's going to go

Small update for today....

Got round to fitting my new bonnet struts from the group buy. Good bit of kit and look decent quality.

After unpacking them I had to figure out how they attached, as there was no instructions for fitting. After playing around with the bracket I figured out how it was meant to fit on.

The strut itself mounts directly to the wing. So I popped out one of the middle bolts holding the wing on and replaced it with the strut and a washer that was supplied...

37128444885_8dd3d5b766_z.jpg

Next I had a bit of a fiddle undoing the two standard bolts attaching the hinge to the bonnet. Fitted the bracket underneath and made sure it was back in its original position. The strut needs to be attached to this bracket prior to fitting it I found out! The little black circlip pops on the end to secure it...

37128444815_12197c68ae_z.jpg

Both struts fitted and looking good!...

37128444635_e3d72b2235_z.jpg

One thing I was worried about prior to fitting was that the bonnet may now raise up slightly, from what others have said in the past. To my joy I shut the bonnet to find that not only did nothing need adjustment, but there was no raised edges either side...

36315192753_fc37d5f085_z.jpg

So I'm very pleased with them :)  Operation is very smooth and is weighted correctly. Worth pointing out that there's 2 bolts and another couple of washers that are provided in the kit, but you don't actually need them for installation!
