This link should see you right, I would put some grease on the threaded rod and thrust race of the tool to avoid wearing it out.

 

If the car is of a resonable age clean up the corrosion in the groove in the carrier nearest the wheel and at the back of the bearing to make certain the bearing goes back in all the way and the locking ring works.

I was expecting to have to heat the carrier as the one I was splitting had been sat around for a while, but no problem came out like a dream.
