3.6 4x4 pricing / anyone know this car?

They might share the floor pan with a mondeo but that is where the similarity ends. Previous car was a face-lift S80. Still miss it. Supremely comfortable cruiser as is the XC70.

Have test driven the new 2.0 drive-e engine - very nice but will likely trade the Superb 3.6 4x4 Elegance (if I can't sell privately) in for the D4 AWD as I like the AWD for traction when towing. The D4 AWD is the same engine as the D5 mechanically (twin turbo) just detuned to try to tempt you to spend the extra for the D5! The tuners can chip both to the same 235Hp and 470Nm.

I called up about the car today.

Said no to 10k cash, no trade-in but they countered right off the bat with 10.5, so I maybe there's some room to work down from there. Confirmed it's got KESSY and audio upgrade, but no front sensors / auto-park. It's had three variable services and is about ready for another. The middle one of the three services it's had already was VAG specialist apparently, whilst the other two were main dealer. Sadly given the £485 a year tax, it currently doesn't have any on it at all at the moment.

They got it from Blade Skoda in Bristol who had taken it as a trade in. I assume it was too leggy for them to retail themselves.

1.8tsi 4x4 is where it's at, fab tuning potential and lighter than the V6

If you can live without the 4x4, I'd go for a 2.0TSi, a stage 1 remap can give you 250 bhp, & the 6-speed DSG can cope with extra torque too.

As for fuel, I did Thurrock to Chertsey & back last Saturday, keeping to 70 / 75 mph to keep all the new cameras happy, & it returned 40 mpg.

As a driver of the last pre-ford Volvo I just have a little bit of trouble reconciling the fact that the current v70 and s80 are based on the outgoing Mondeo platform. Platform sharing in VAG is one thing but somehow I don't want my v70/xc70/s80 being based on a ford.

The all new XC90 however. Now that I'd have.

We had an '04 V70 SE D5 for about 9k miles, from new, & I was very happy to return to  Mk 3 Mondeo V6's,

Much nicer to drive & a much more capable estate car, IMVHO.

Three mondy wagon all told, s, two 2.5 V6's for 3 years each & a 3.0 V6 for 6 years, now replaced by a very nice VW EOS, (not the best estate car ever...............).

Sound like you'll probably meet in the middle at £10,250 or thereabouts so if you're still going for it and everything is as it should be mechanically/electrically etc. Still a great car for the money and some peace of mind with the service history . I wouldn't worry about park assist, most of us that have it never use it. Front sensors are handy but the rears are the ones you will rely on.

Best if luck !

So I made a decision not to buy this. I went out for a drive in my Volvo just now and realised I really love it (the 5cylinder roar and awesome tape deck just get me every time! :) ) so I might as well enjoy it for a bit longer and get some value from the work I've done on it whilst riding the deprecation down another 12 months or so on the Superb V6s. I'm pretty confident that's what I'll go for next though.

With the amount of money already paid to our government by that cars previous owners in Fuel tax,Vat and Road fund licence the next owner should qualify for free Road fund licence :| .

OH I forgot some one has to pay for MP expenses like floating duck houses to name just one...

Never understood why people think no having a trade in will get them a better deal. In this example I'd be more inclined to let you take the Superb for a smaller profit than normal just to move it on and take in a trade in that would be easier to sell and make some money out of that.

That doesn't really make sense. Why would they have bought the superb off the local skoda dealer in the first place if they perceived it as being hard to sell. They could have just bought another easier to retail car in the first place.

They haven't had to do anything to the superb, so a quick, no trade in deal would be nice quick, easy cash flow, particularly as I told them I wouldn't want them to service or valet it, which they were saying they'd do. With a trade in they'd have to stand some risk of hassle and expense if I traded them in a lemon.

Volvo deal is 10% off list (pre-vat) including options then a fixed discount (depending on model - £4500 for XC70), free metallic, 5 years servicing for £500 and 50% interest free. So almost £10K off XC70 although they are still towards £30k.

Is this deal from internet brokers or directly from dealers? Those prices look quite tempting...

You should be able to get £9-10,000 off a new Volvo XC70 by ordering direct from a Volvo dealer if you obtain your quote and intro through drivethedeal. You will still have access to the servicing plans and 50/50 0% deal should you want those.

Deal is called Affinity - caravan club is one of those that can access deal. You go to any Volvo dealer and order the car as normal with whatever options and just tell them (will eventually ask to see membership) you want it through the caravan club deal.

The deal is detailed under Member Offers on the CC website (have to login to see it). Bear in mind the dealer gets a fixed handling fee so you can't barter with the trade in price as you normally would.

Hope this helps. Still can't decide whether to try to sell the 3.6 privately or just trade in for the end of this month.

Most likely the dealer lumped it together with a few other cars, probably sat with a dealer for 90 days and then they just had to move it on and trading it out with a few other cars is a good way to shift old stock without loosing money.

I'd still rather take a small profit out of the Superb and a profit out of your trade in, than just sell the Superb for a small profit and be left with an empty space on the forecourt.

But maybe you've got more experience working in the motor trade than me so your view is equally valid.

Unfortunately not the Megaberb ( kids description) will be a present to myself when I "retire" from Her Majesties Armed Forces. Still a very rare beastie, I have to make do with video clips on you tube and virtual shopping..... For now.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just looked up the company that do the exhaust in that video....

HMS (German company but website in English), and the exhaust comes with a cockpit controlled 'flap' like Porsche/Maserati so you can 'open up' the exhaust noise when you want to annoy the neighbours.... :D

I want one but its not cheap so will have to wait a while as I save the pennies.....

I have mondeos mk4s as well and find they handle a lot better than the skoda superbs , they are more stable and track better on the motorway. They have bigger and more comfortable seats . In fact I've just ordered a mk5
