Busy day

As SWMABO was spending the day cutting out some patchwork pieces with a friend and taking up half the lounge to do so, I decided I'd do something to the car.

12 months ago I noticed that I had a small amount of paint damage to one rear wheel arch, probably caused by the forest tracks I often drive, and having looked at the wheel arch kit fitted to some models decided to buy it. A friend worked for Listers at the time, at a different branch, but was able to get the kit at cost from their Skoda dealership for me.

So today I've fitted it. Used a specialist adhesive sealer and cleaned all the paintwork in the required area and the back of the plastic with a special acrylic cleaner from a company I used to work for. Did the back 2 first as they need nothing removing, and then the front 2 having removed the front mud flaps.

They advise leaving the tape on for 6 hours, but I shall leave it over night, although the "glue" does seem to "grab" very quickly. I do actually like the look of them.

Have found that the front mudflaps can be refitted BUT the "clip" at the top that holds them into the body needs to be cut off when the kit is fitted as it stops the clip going around the edge of the wheel arch.

More pictures tomorrow without the tape!

Excuse me Sir, by pure chance I've got a Welsh flag and a GB sticker in the same place as yourself.

Should one say; 'Great minds think alike'

I bought a wheel arch kit set months ago but, had intended to spray them silver before fitting. Maybe one day I'll get round to spraying them.

I had intended to cut the front arch piece where the mud flap is fitted but, if your mud flap just fits back on after fitting the arch kit to the front I can go ahead and spray mine without the cutting.

Looks like I may just fit them before the winter sets in.

Thanks for your post.

Darrel,

They fitted them to one of the special models and I thought it looked quite good against the white.

Against my Muscavdo they aren't quite so obvious.

Try a Photoshop experiment and see what you think.

Bit of advice Graham, try and leave them up to 24 hours to bond (the longer the better), Don,t wash for at least a week and defo not with a Jetwash. I found the hardest one,s to fit are the front wheel arches as they are so long ( I used suction clamps for these and tape). 6 months and touch wood they are still in place, if they do decide to become dislodged you can buy individual Arch pieces and a tip from Dr Pinball was to use Loctite 406 to adhere them to the previous adhered glue/adhesive.

Cheers for that, Tony, but the tape will have to come off in the morning as SWMBO is going swimming and I'm going to the gym.

Washing? Can you explain that? Dewi's had his half yearly wash before the daughter's wedding.

Looks good. In Muscovado & on white.

Adds protection to the bits that stick out most. Even the back edge if the rear doors probe to stone chips.

Any idea if they would have been part of the RRP?

How much is the dealer price?

No they aren't part of the RRP, although it might be a good idea.

Sorry can't remember; I bought them at cost through a friend 12 months ago.

Superskoda sell 2 versions, the proper Skoda one and a cheaper, thinner, lighter plastic version.

Tape removed this morning but I am now going to have to get the Acrysol out to remove the remnants of the tape and a little bit of "spread" glue.

Photos to follow when the car has dried and cleaned up.

Looking at the photos i think I need to get the Bumper & Trim Cleaner out, and I know I need some Tar Remover.

Also need to get out with a touch-up kit as there are a few stone chips to be dealt with.
