Occasional low boost pressure - VRS

Looks like mine was a **** map, had it redone by Evans remapping who is a dealer for Elite maps, over a week no limp mode so far and it goes like a scolded cat. Drives the way a mapped car should. Evans did a good job (based mid west Wales).

Yeah cheers for the advice, it was the next logical step following DV and smoke test going by your experience. Was very similar. The guy at Elite who writes the maps looked at it and it was all over the place. It explains a lot now, why the DV was so loud before hand, think it was bingeing and purging boost, sounded like a full on dump valve, the Forge now gives a reassuring whisper and the boost is held much better and less surgey. MPG has gone down a tad, so it seems it was running lean as well. Anyway I went for a performance map from Elite, now at 220bhp and over 300 and something nms of torque. Post Terraclean and with Panel filter its going very nicely (crosses fingers). Cheers again Paul.

Hello. So last week I'we been at my tuner and he repaired map on my car and limp mode has gone(finally). And also remaped a little bit so now at 211hp and 323nm, running stock without n249. So happy again.

It seems that a sketchy map is quite a common cause, it's just a shame we really need to check everything else like boost leaks and DV before we get there. Anyway glad it's sorted mines been fine since, been months now, on the rollers next week!

I have just had my 04 1.8t Octavia map done by a local mapper who is a specialists in RS focus'. The car has mapped amazingly well. 213.9hp and 330nm torque. But I have this limp mode problem too. After a long drive without out pushing the car the boost is limited to 0.4bar some times 0.7bar when pulling. Also sitting in traffic after a spirited drive and then pulling away again. the car will not have the power it had. Cycling the ignition works brings it back even when rolling. I have used the torque app and a Bluetooth OBD module to look at some of the sensor readings and i cant find anything abnormal. AFR, MAF, Intake pressure etc. My coolant sensor is reading 73C and the dash gauge is reading 95C ( not sure if that is a problem)
I'm running all standard hardware. this happened straight after the mapping. Could leaning the AFR out too much higher in the RPM cause this?

The mapper said he had leaned it out a bit and advanced the timing ever so slightly, turbo up to 1.1 bar sustained but see a second gear surge of 1.6bar.

could this also be a mapping error?

Thanks

73C is low, & the ECU won't be fuelling right. The CTS has 2 seperate outputs, one for the gauge & one for the ECU, so it sounds like the CTS ECU output is failing. Replace with a genuine VAG CTS or you'll probably be buying twice. :wall:

Doubt it's the cause of your limp problem though. You need to get it hooked up to VCDS rather than the torque app. My guess is that you'll find 17705 code logged.

As above^^ and that code will probably say check diverter valve, probably won't be that either, could be but fairly easy to check it's working. I'd say pipework or a software issue, but it could be a lot of things. As suggested get it on vcds.

the reason for the boost issues on these is mainly down to a cause that most 20v owners now call BECAUSE ITS A 20 VALVE  lol mine been a pain again swapped everything grrr just going to re build re grease and seal my dv 008 as thats only thinkg i've swapped

You have a MK2 and this is the MK1 section. Try searching the MK2 section and if you can't find an answer start a new thread.
