Towbar fitting ?

Recommended Posts

I fitted one to an 07 plate estate.

It involved taking a lot of the interior apart and removing the rear bumper and lights.

I wasn't too difficult and I'd do it again instead of paying someone but you'll be in for a fun time!

The wiring was fun too using a powered relay. It was easier to check with a light board plugged in.

Let me know if you want an py further advice.

Hi

go on the net and download the fitting instructions, these will show how to remove the rear bumper, purchase a 7 way bypass relay, this is a must, and then prepare yourself for alot of internal trim removal. It all takes time but loads of money can be saved. Look on fleebay for the towbar from "towbarman01" scroll down the page and the instructions are listed.

I did mine in march and all went well.

I can add diagrams for an estate if that helps when I get back to my computer. I can also offer advice as needed.

I do have a detachable towbar with dedicated 7-pin electrics for sale in the relevant section if you haven't already got one.

That comes with full instruction booklets for the towbar & electrics.

Then you will definitely need some kind of an adapter between the 7 wires and the car.

If you connect directly to one of the rear clusters then the car will get quite upset as it monitors each bulb. There are some cheaper ones that spice into the lighting loom but don't cause any additional load which might be suitable for your needs. However, I would definitely recommend the official kit if possible as that way the car can change it's behaviour depending on if a trailer is attached.
