Recommended Posts

So it came through the post and wasn't seeming that cheap so I went on compare the market

Ended up with admiral all mods declared £270!!!!

Cheap as chips I reckon?

30 years old clean licence (now) live in a reasonable postcode with comuting doing 8k miles a year

Never would have thought of admiral but they've come up trumps

Bugger me, that is cheap! I think I'll try Admiral again, as mine is due in a month or so. Did you get to actually speak to someone to declare all your mods in black and white, even though you went through a comparison site? I'm currently with Brentacre.

Law unto themselves insurance companys!! I had a renewal letter from Aviva for £548 (bog standard Octy Mk1 TDI estate) I thought your having a giraffe!! Went on confused.com cheapest was £240 cancelled Aviva renewal and then thought just out of interest I would try a new quote with Aviva on-line before taking out the confused quote.  It came out at £200....so why didnt they offer me that on the phone when I cancelled????

Seems theres a drop in prices on vrs's then! Just renewed mine today for £265, standard but I'm 26. Funnily enough though I swapped from admiral this year after a 4 year stretch with them. Also, seems there are mixed reports about them insuring mods too, on the phone they say no way, but works fine online.

Not sure what's happening then, I ran a renewal through as a 'matter of interest' over 500 quid with Admiral (cheapest). Mods declared, map and filter, but I'm 39 with 10 years NCD. Not panicking yet, renewal is January, think I'll be having a word with Dan and trying specialist, doing it old school ringing around.

I am the same, although a few years behind you! I prefer to actually speak to someone and get my insurance laid out in black and white. I'd hate to be in a situation where I don't have any insurance because a website threw a wobbly and missed out all the modifications without me noticing. Just not worth the risk for the sake of a few phone calls in my opinion. Different matter if it was a standard car though.

Before comparison sites it was the only way to save £s. Would spend an hour or 2 going through them, then I'd ring back my current insurer to see if they could match/beat it. Now I have mods it looks like being the way forward again.

I uses a local broker who always come up trumps with best value premium and sometimes lower than comparison sites. They also knows that I don't want a low cost policy that has been cut to the bone on features and service just to get to the lowest price.

I do see your point but even my mint low millage 54 plate is really only worth 3k tops so if the worst happens and it's my fault ( not involving someone else) I'm probably not going to claim is be well out of pocket, I'd just break it and see what I got!

As long as I'm legal im happy and as long as it doesn't cost an arm and a leg I'm also happy.

The only reason I go full comp on my car is because it's cheaper than tpft
