Hi,

I want to paint my break calipers and rear drums in Hammerite red smooth but don't know what tools i need or how to do it? Is it just straight wheel removal then paint, let it dry and put the wheel back on?

Thanks

I've only done the rear, I used black because I didn't want to draw attention to the ridiculously tiny drums. It's as easy as you thought for the rear, not sure about the calipers sorry. Needs a couple of coats imo and a good rub down first, and an anti rust primer.

I did my rear drums in smooth black

My drums hadnt got rusty yet so didnt need too much rubbing down.

All i did was remove the wheel, give it a rub down with some wet n dry, remove dust, and paint with a brush.

I was careful not to paint where the wheel makes contact with the drum for obvious reasons.

One coat was good enough as its pretty thick stuff.

Put some copper slip where the wheel meets the drum to help stop the wheel seizing on in the future and put the wheel back on.

It dried nicely and looks good imo.

Ill get you a pic if you like?

Quite frankly it's a disgrace that cars are fitted with drum brakes these days.

You used to be able to buy matt black manifold paint.

I used this on my old Anglia brake drums to reduce overheating and fade.

Drums are pretty poor in the wet; do keep pressing the pedal to dry them in heavy rain; I fear for your safety.

I agree. And they should atleast paint them properly from the factory.

Ive never suffered any braking issues though, and never heard of any complaints in wet weather due to the fabia drums. Dont forget most of the braking force is distributed to the front discs.
