Smart Repair Insurance

Recommended Posts

Have it - purchased through Skoda dealer at time of car purchase - can be bought later if required. It seems only some dealers sell it for some reason.

Is it worth it ? that is a VERY good question.

As my car is on a 3 yr lease I was looking for peace of mind - any dents or scratches that needed sorting I have repaired as I go along rather than needing a big bill before the car goes back.

So far I have had two dents repaired, initial technitian that atteneded had a fully equipt van but did not want to go down the "fill & spray" route, so he sorted out a paintless dent removal technician to attended at another date. This guy was able to sort the dent on the door but not the one by the fuel filler cap - so guess what - the original technician returned to fill and spray the remaining dent.

Both repairs at the end of the day were very good - could not see repair at all (belive me I was looking !) Its just a pity it took three visits to sort out two dents.

So was it worth it ? I dont know - I only say this because I have not approched the dent repair people direct to see how much each repair would have cost.

With the insurance its worth pointing out that they will only cover certain areas of the car - bonnet & roof for example are generally excluded so no stone chips will be reapaired. Some insurances will cover Alloy wheel repair if painted but not diamond cut laqured as on L&K (wheel repair can be added as an extra)

Alternatives - contact the repair companies direct I guess. Think I paid around £250-300 for 3 yrs cover.

Would I get it next time ? Ask me in two years time

Thanks, I've opted out. Partly because I didn't budget for it and have other things to pay for. I also reckon for the £300 it would have cost I could find a local body shop to sort it out...

I had a dent removed on my Polo GTi around 2005 that was above the wheel arch. It was done by Dent Devils and i think it cost around £60 i think but as i say that was a few years ago.

Rather than attending at my home it was mutually convenient to carry out the work whilst the guy was at a local dealership carrying out work on another car there.

I agreed to meet him there seeing as it was the Porsche Sheffield dealership and i got to sit in their pound surrounded by what can be assumed to be a few million quids worth of Porsches while he repaired the dent in my car. :D
