The not so rapid Rapid project

I believe it is time for me to start my Rapids project journal, although I think that it will be more of a journal and less of a project. Anyway I wanted to have a journal of all the small changes and modifications I have done in the car (and those I will do in the future).

My name is Haris and I am greek, living in Athens.

The car is a Corrida Red Rapid Spaceback in Elegance trim with the 1,6 TDi - 90 PS engine and the Style Pack. It was delivered to me in July 2014 and the manufacture date was the 16th of May 2014.

First pictures of the car, the day it was delivered:

First day of the car - first problem! The two drivers side windows weren't functioning during delivery. The dealer disconnected the battery for 15 seconds and then everything was in order... for a week. In a week the problem reappeared, only to be solved by switching off the key and then switching on. Once again problem solved for a week, and the third time it reappeared for good! Nothing could be done by the dealer this time and I ended with 2 non-functioning windows for 18 days, during the hot greek summer. After 18 days and 4 visits to the dealership, the drivers module (is this the right term?) was changed as it had apparently fried and I finally got a breath of fresh air...

TO BE CONTINUED...

Believe in the UK the controller you describe is know as the convenience module. My sons previous Fabia I had to have this replaced due to window/central locking issues, the car being around 7 years old at the time.

Like the car by the way, the wheel design particularly goes well with the red.

Anyway hope its all sorted now.

When I ordered the car, I had arranged for cruise control to be retrofitted as soon as it became available as an accessory. So when I got a call from the dealer in less than a month and a half, I was really happy. There started a small odyssey with 7 visits to the dealer's workshop and (failing to deliver) to the workshop of Viamar (that is Skoda Greece). To make a long story short:

1. They have initially ordered the wrong part

2. then they ordered the correct part plus another module needed to fit the CC

3. then they couldn't code the CC to the car

4. then they did code it but the locking of the doors was disabled

5. then they had to upload an image of the ECU to Skoda HQ, waiting for the solution

6. then they received instructions of how to code everything properly for the CC and the cental locking to work, but managed to mess with the MFD which got stuck in the bluetooth menu

7. then they re-uploaded the image of the ECU to Skoda HQ, waiting for new instructions

8. then they received the instructions that made possible the correct function of the MFD and that was about the end of the story.

Total incompetence... :D

A joke indeed... :D

Thankfully everything works fine now.

The retrofitment of the CC was one of the 3 things that I thought were indispensable when I ordered the car. And it was a good thing that I negociated its price prior to the purchace of the car, so I finally paid just 200 Euros for parts and labour, VAT included.

The other two things I wanted were less utilitarian and more cosmetic.

The first thing that struck me when I saw the engine bay was the incredible spaghetti of wires, cables and lines, due to the omission of the engine cover (it's called cost cutting). Really appaling IMHO and not at all practical to keep the engine bay clean and tidy, so I ordered one from the dealer, which was delivered and fitted one month latter for 70 Euros.

The second thing that I wanted from the beginning, were the storage boxes either side of the boot (despite the slots being there) and the side net (cost cutting again). In the beginning they were unavailable, but thanks to this post ( http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/324026-spaceback-boot-storage-boxes-now-fitted/?hl=%2Bboot#entry3984905 ) by the plumber I finally got the parts numbers and ordered them from my dealer. A few weeks latter I got them for 32 Euros and fitted them myself in less than 5 minutes.

Having now rectified the most important faux pas Skoda had made, I could proceed with the rest of the improvements...

The not so Rapid project gets also no so rapid updates... ;)

The very first thing I did when I got my car was to fit solar films. Living in Greece, it's absolutely essential to get total (99%) UV protection and good heat rejection.

The films were made by Foliatec and installed professionally by a friend of mine (an ICE and solar films specialist).

The choice within Foliatec's range wasn't simple, as I wanted to get the best protection within the legal limits, so I chose 3 different products for the various glass surfaces.

For the panoramic sunroof I chose a rather dark film, offering very good heat rejection, while being relatively cheap.

For the side and rear windows I chose a rather light film, but with equally good heat rejection, due to having small metal particles offering a slight mirror-like surface, thus rejecting effectively heat. That film was understandably more expensive than the previous one.

Finally, for the windscreen i got the only street-legal solar film for windscreens, with maximum light transmission (75%, the legal limit). That was the most expensive of all (price per square metre).

The car looks great with the solar films, in a discrete manner. I never liked very dark shades and depending on weather conditions and sunlight, the shade of the glass surfaces ranges from light (almost factory-like) to mirror-like or gray-ish.

I will post some photos, that don't do justice to the car as the look is ever changing.

For some unknown reason I cannot upload any more images in this thread, despite them being all jpg of less than 100 KB size.

When I select a jpg and then press the "Attach This File" button, I get the message " Error This upload failed ".

Any ideas?

I think its the .jpg that is the issue. try saving the pic as .png or .bmp instead

Nope, that's not the problem, since all the previous photos I had uploaded were jpg as well. Thanks anyway for the try.

Can any moderator shed some light?

Do you use photobucket? It's free and a lot of users use it. Once you've signed up and uploaded an image, click on it (the image) and click the "direct" link in the "shares" option to the top right, then on the forum click your little green box just left under the smiley face and paste in the link, click okay and it should automatically insert the picture, I hope this helps/works and gets this thread moving again :)

hello, have been reading your posts and see you have sourced an engine cover as Skoda decided not to fit one as cost saving measure.

they have also not fitted them here in the uk. would you happen to have the part number for the cover to hand? if so could you let me know what it was?

thanks

How are you trying to upload them?

Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk

The same way I was uploading them (see the first photos of the thread). Direct upload from my computer in jpg format.

When I try to attach a file with the basic uploader, I get this message:

You can upload up to Uploading is not allowed of files (Max. single file size: 2MB)

When I switch to the advanced uploader and try to attach a file, I get this message:

You have exceeded your allotted disk space for attachments.

However I haven't attached that many photos and they aren't even that large. I may have uploaded 2MB in total, that is the max size allowed for a single file. It drives me crazy ...

I know about photobucket and I 've used it in the past but for now I don't want to use it! I would like to directly upload my photos as everyone else in the forum!

Might have to upgrade to a freedom member then? If you aren't already that is, freedom gives you less restrictions
