Mark 1 Octy Vrs Bingo - What's The Highest Asking Price?

Recommended Posts

Thats what I don't get about some people who mod their cars they spend all that time and money modding it to how they want and then the minute they get bored or need a different car they break it for parts. They spend all that time just to scrap it at the end of the day.

Yeah, but it's a hobby at the end of the day. People join a Golf club or take up smoking, but all they get at the end of it is a divorce and an early death so not really any different?

Modified cars are always going to be worth less as said above due to the question mark factor. Personally speaking, I'm more than happy to alter things on my car because I know the quality of work or the companies/suppliers involved - but if I was buying a car I'd want clean, straight, standard every time and I'd never expect mods to increase value. That said, performance mods are often easier to deal with than ones that alter the looks. Someone looking at a mk1 is going to be more than accommodating of a Stage 1 map or an oversize TIP than they would be of a black grille surround and laminex'd headlights imho. It might be one persons taste, but it won't be anothers and that restricts your 'market'.

Same reason a kev'd up Impreza with 'WRC' bodykit, stickers and wheels won't get what a standard looking one with forged internals, remap, bigger intake etc would.

I've been watching the market and been to see 5+ mk1 VRSs for sale over the last few months. Lots of them look great in the pictures but are actually pretty rough when you get close up. A lot of the cars for sale are due/overdue a cambelt change. I've seen cars advertised by dealers as having FSH but having big gaps between services and/or being overdue a service or cambelt. Quite frustrating when trying to buy one!

I have seen cars up for sale at £3.5-4k for 2005 models with low miles which have sold, presumably for roughly a few hundred quid off the asking price.

That modified one has been for sale ages, very small market for it. Seller might get more interest at £3k (but still a small market) or breaking it for spares. I think for most people into modified cars part of the fun is from doing the changes yourself and seeing the progress.

Makes mine seem like a bargain, 67k at 2,400 in June, 2003/4 plate, I think it was, cant remember exactly as it was part ex. Beneath the marks and tarspots on paintwork from sitting around for a while I could see that it was mint and it came up really nicely. Interior and engine bay were spotless. FSH but as it turns out it did need a cambelt which I didn't really know until recently. I saw others that looked great online and were up for more money, mainly silver ones. But on closer inspection were proper tatty and incomplete SH. Found mine out of luck, it was on the dealers 'other' site with his tidier cars, after looking at a grotty one in the 'yard'.

Modded mine but not expecting it to be worth anything more than a standard one, going to lose money on it standard or modded, spend money on mods because that's what I enjoy, dont smoke, drink or do illegal substances, so spend money on mods and V-power, when it comes to changing car(which is unlikely to be anytime soon) will probably break it as it is worth more in bits.

Like I said will be keeping it for few more years yet, parts easier to sell and gives me more money to mod the next one, plus just think the more that get stripped the more yours becomes more rare

Supply and demand will push prices up. 2 years ago there were four pages of mk1 VRS's on fleebay on any given day. Now down to just a few adverts. Now very few under the 100k mile mark. The fact that they are also an excellent all round car helps. Advice if you have a good low mileage one keep it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. 20 years ago I was buying Mk2 ford escort Rs 2000's and Mexico's for little money. See how much they are fetching now !

I sold my vRS 3 years ago which was immaculate (was due cambelt though and two new tyres) for £1,300 was up for the same money last year having had cambelt done (not tyres, had one jonnyjakamoto god knows what tyre and the old spare which was barely legal) it had been wrecked in a short period - dunno what it sold for, I passed on buying it back.

£1,300 at the moment doesn't seem to get you a clean car, the good ones seem to be circa £2k (for around 2002/2003)

Tbh I wouldn't know what mine is worth but whatever it is it's worth a lot more to me personally. I just can't find anything I like enough to make me want to sell it. I've looked at cars 5 or 6 years younger than mine that aren't as clean and need more work. If the vrs was just a little bit better on fuel and cheaper on road tax!!

Quite, that said mine seems to do better on fuel than the Mrs 1.4 Megane (when driven with economy in mind), and isn't too much more on tax, and I'm pretty sure I know which I'd rather drive.

I'd be quite happy with the running costs of the vRS nowadays!  If you ever feel worried about it, think of me and the £485 tax and 24mpg I'm getting at the moment.  See, you feel better already. :D

My 06 Octavia was a good example when I sold it two and a half years ago.  I'd love to know where it is now (YG06 UOH) as it had been my pride and joy after I collected it from the dealer with 7miles on the clock.  I traded it in through necessity rather than choice and regret it.  I've been watching prices since and was surprised to see this one going for so much money,

I don't think they'll get the asking price, especially with the mileage this car has.

I had a look at this one after essexocty mentioned it on the previous page.  You're right about them being under the influence of something.  They may have been on it whilst they were working on the paint job too. :notme:

Not sure it's every day but I think of it on a regular basis.  The Vauxhall is like the Octavia's big brother in some ways.  It's faster, handles better, is more comfy and definitely more of a hooligan but it doesn't have the same effect on me as the Octavia.  The vRS felt just right as an everyday car as it was a great compromise.  It didn't excel at anything but it was a good all rounder in terms of running costs, speed (after a remap), and practicality.  The VXR takes more commitment financially in every way, fuel, tax, 19" tyres etc but for some bizarre reason is cheaper to insure!
