Hi,

New to the Yeti experience and looking for some advice on winter tyres.

Ive read just about every post on the internet over the past couple of days and probably suffering from information overload so wonder if you guys can help clear it up.

To cut a long story short i recently bought a year old 170 4x4 L&K with the 17" wheels on it, one day I may get to drive it if the wife will let me have the keys for a moment. Im a great believer in winter tyres and need to sort some for our car as the OEM dunlops are shot and as I usually do im looking to either pick up a cheap set of alloys or some steel wheels shod with the appropriate winter boots.

I have already in my possession from my last car, a Vectra Sri a set of 'H' rated 205/60/16 Dunlop winter boots which have only done about 1000 miles. Are these ok to be used on the Yeti and if so what size wheels should I buy - I believe they fit 5.5" to 7" ? rims. if this is possible it saves a load of expense and I know the tyres history.  If this is an uncommon size for the car but 'will do' please advise the wheel size to be compatible with the size I do need for future winters.

I have read that it appears a problem with the steel wheels is u may have to get the genuine skoda trims to fit over them ? if anyones got any links for the wheels and trims I need, i would be grateful.

If the tyre size ive got isnt suitable then im ok replacing them, my wifes safety is more important then the bank balance on this one, after all, my cookings terrible....

Also, come spring and the alloys go back on , whats the recommended tyre for the 17's now, we just about to clock 20,000 on the dunlops and theyre almost on the wear bars.

Ive enjoyed reading the various posts on here recently and look forward to contributing when ive got something that isnt dumb to say.

Regards

David

As above, a search will tell all.  But the Skoda part number for the 16" wheels......V3C0 601 027 MO 3C

My winter tyres are 215 60 16 and were the nearest, approved size to the circumference of the 17" standard ones.  Your 205 will have a slightly different circumference. See the useful posts on here from a couple of years back and you'll be very familiar with what's what.

If you don't want the expense of Skoda alloys or steel rims and trims, you could look at the Ronal R42 after-market alloys. Ronal make quite a few of Skoda's steel and alloy rims anyway (all the Skoda factory rims on our Spaceback are by Ronal) and the R42 can be obtained in the correct 7Jx16 ET45, PDC 5x112 size and is a direct fit to your car.

Currently £74 a rim from here;

As others have stated you need a 94 load index as a minimum for your tyres.

Tyres then I'd look at;

Note, just using Openeo as an example as they happen to have an easy site to navigate.

Yes 215x60x60 are the best option unless you are planning going abroad and need to fit snow chains, the size recommended in the handbook and The Plumbers excellent guide linked to above.

I bought from Tyreleader for my Yeti.

7J x 16 steel rims at £33 - http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/steel-wheels/skoda/yeti/20tdi-55549

With 4 x Nokian WR D3 215/60 R16 99H XL the bill came to £420. Load rating is higher than needed, but at the time the lower load rate was same cost/more expensive.
