Scout cut out

Recommended Posts

My 2011 2L CR diesel has a fault. It cutsout then fails to start for up to an hour. When you turn the key after its cut out you get all the usual warning lights on but none of them go out. When the key is turned further toengage the starter motor there is nothing except for an audible warning beep. There is no drain on the battery when the key is turned.

The car is at the local Skoda dealer but coming back tonight with no fault found ,logged or otherwise. My wife drives the car and has no confidence in it any more as it  stopped on a  busy roundabout.Any ideas would be great.Thanks,Tony.

Clearly an electrical fault, which means without a fault code it will be more difficult to correctly diagnose.

The car is at least in the right place. I'm assuming the warranty has expired this year?

Don't let the dealer return the car to you without them acknowledging the fault. Nor should you let them replace (and charge you) for new parts on a trial and error basis.

If the dealer admits defeat (more hassle than it's worth) call Skoda UK and ask them to step in...

If you have no confidence in it why have it returned? Can you demonstrate the fault? Did they fill in with you a lengthy crib sheet detailing the fault for the Technicians? Did they ask with your permission to use it for a while with maybe a master tech taking it home to try and replicate the issue? . Car's don't always throw up a fault code .. and there are other dealers.

Next time it fails to start take a video of you trying to start the engine with your mobile phone.

When it starts take the car to Skoda, show them the video, ask for a courtesy car and tell them to give you a call when they are able to correctly diagnose the fault.

Just what you need over Christmas.

Be sure to get a list of everything they have checked / replaced before accepting the car back.

If it consists of a dianostics check, road test and not much else then tell them to keep it until it is fixed properly.

Car still at local dealers. They have changed ABS control module after the car stopped while they were using it.They want to run it for a few days before it is handed back.

At least the garage have now witnessed for themselves the car cutting out.

Fingers crossed that the new ABS control module fixes the issue.

You'll be glad to get back into the Scout after running the Fabia!?
