No springy plate thingys on rear caliper - should there be?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

rear brake binding on my 2005 1.9TDi Hatch

Checked it wasn't the handbrake - released the cable and they still stick after pedal pumping with engine running

Took off caliper and cleaned piston etc - a bit gungy but nothing solid (not easy to put back the seal!!)

Lubed and put back together

Pads still not backing off and wheel stiff to turn.

The pads just sit on the carrier there's no thin metal springy clips top and bottom - should there be? is that why they're maybe sticking?

Thanks in advance

Nick

Something else to try, if you haven't already.

The calpier should slide.  Take the pads out and see if you can get it to freely move on the carrier.

Use a lever, don't press the brake pedal with the pads out.

Either the pins could be seized/ gunged. or the slide on the carrier/caliper interface are rusted/gunged.

This may help:

Looks like there should be some inserts in the calipers for the pads to slide on.

Number 19:

19 -  Pad retaining plate q always replace when changing the brake pads
