exhaust/axle removal?

Hey guys. Im after advice on how to get the exhaust off. I know it goes over the axle beam so do I have to remove all of it?????? Can anyone point me in the direction of a guide or something, is it a fairly easy job or not. Thanks in advance

There are marks near the axle where you're supposed to cut it.

you should beable to take it off without cutting it, i did, just undo all the joints at the back box, mid section and the down pipe, remove it from the rubber mounts then take it off a section at a time, you will have to fiddle a bit to get it over the beam, hope this helps mate

The original exhaust is one piece from centre box to tailpipe though.   Having joints suggests sections have been replaced at some point.

If you look on the exhaust near to where it goes over the rear beam, there are 3 small indentations on it. You have to cut it on the middle indentation.

What ever you do try jacking it up and allowing the trailing arm to drop it gives you more room to manoeuvre it

When I got my Piper fitted I showed the guy the marks as I wanted to save the exhaust just in case. So he cut it right up against the back box, Sigh.

if i cut the exhaust on the marks, will it just slip over the beam or will i need a lot of height and movement?

Ideally you want to be on a two post lift really.

yeah it maybe ramps im afraid, looks a easy job be grudge paying 50 quid for someone to do it really, fitting looks a piece of cake but getting the bit over the axel seems the worst part

ok so i backed the car on ramps spent yesterday afternoon on my back removing and fitting the new exhaust. for what should be a simple job its a ball ache

Fair play for getting it sorted. Changing exhausts is the only job I'll always pay someone else to do. It's so much easier with the car on a lift.

thats true a lift makes exhaust work much easier, but exhaust work is really only few rusty bolts to undo not complicated at all just awkward. i get a satisfaction knowing i did the work and saved a few quid, i could've waited my mate said i could use is garage ramps and he would help, but i wanted to hear the noise!!
