Dennis Horton & Son are a true family business, three generations of the Horton family are involved in the business. When we first went to test drive a diesel Fabia, they didn't have the model we were interested in available, but a member of the family was driving that particular model. The keeper was asked to pop down to the dealership, with the car, so we could take it for a test drive!

The test drive was of a reasonable distance and time, so we could both (my partner & I) both get a proper feel for the car and travel on different types of roads etc. On the return to the dealership we were allowed plenty of time to “play” with the car, without anyone hassling us. We took brochures etc. away without any pressure to sign on the dotted line. Returning to the dealership the following week (after we had decided to buy), we went to see what cars were available from stock and also to see if the car we wanted would be a factory build. After deciding on the options colour etc. and all the paperwork been filled out, we went outside only to walk past a Fabia vrs. I passed a comment that it was a shame it was not a diesel, the dealer principle smiled and went to get the keys smile.gif

So after two visits lengthy visits, searching a length for a Fabia TDi to meet our specifications then scrapping that because we went for a Fabia vrs instead.

They have now moved to a posh new building on Lincolnfields Ind. Estate (south side of Lincoln). Quite a commitment for a family business, but very convenient for the A1 because the A46 from Newark upon Trent to the southern part of Lincoln is now all dual carriageway.

Having visited the dealership several times now (not for any faults, but to get things like engine oil, washer fluid, a paint pen for correcting stone chips and a rear wiper after someone decided to break ours off), what can I say. They are always friendly and always have time to stop and talk. A true family business. Long may it continue.

If you are used to dealing with the type of dealership which is part of a large chain, you will be pleasantly surprised how a family business treats it's customers.

I've just bought my used Octavia from Hortons, and was very impressed with the service. The sales guy was really attentive - spent about 2 hours with me when I popped in to have a quick look at the vRS estate they had. Well worth it for him though, as I bought it! I was looking for an elegance 4x4 estate at the time...

2 weeks later, I got a follow up call from the salesman (Bryan) checking that everything was ok.

Well impressed - I've bought similarly aged (and newer) cars from main dealers before (Land Rover, VW - twice), and all they want to do is get the box signed and move onto the next customer (normally one buying a new car).

The new showroom is really nice - quite fun watching the merc dealer next door - an AA truck came in with a virtually brand new merc on the back while I was enjoying my coffee!

I'd go back for servicing, but I live about 2 miles from Bickertons in Sheffield, so I'll probably go there.

Cheers

Ben

Moved to Lincoln from Essex................ah, sweet relief !! Used Horton's for service and been very impressed. Rather like the "family feel" at T A Porter & Son in Copfold, (Essex), but in a super-smart set-up. Next Skoda will almost certainly be sourced from what is now, happily, my local dealer.

moved down to lincoln form glasgow. my 3rd dealer my car has been in to.

phoned with problem - they didnt book me in they said just turn up so they could have a look. I duly did, they went to have a look and 45 mins later my washer bottle was holding water and my car had the last 9 weeks of grime cleaned off - even the spokes of my wheels were clean! result

all warrantied so didnt lose any ££££ form xmas shopping fund.

not bad for "just having a look at the problem"

will deffo be returning here.

incidently they had leaflets in the waiting area for plugin units similar to tunit boxes.....

Just want to say that Hortons are Very proffesional & friendly. I bought my Fabia from them only last week the service was excellent, certainly the best main dealer I have ever dealt with. I have today taken the car back with a few things & yet again excellent, parts are on order & there was no challenge at all on the minor issues with my car.

All I can say is if you havn't tried them you should.

Well done Hortons, keep it up.

hmmm. skoda dealer of the year 2006. can see why. another small snag with the furby - coil light flashing and no cruise. **** i thought, engine going to self destruct. quick call to horton's and they diagnosed the brake switch problem straight away. I got to Hortons about an hour later where the switch was changed and the car cleaned. No longer have the skoda but with there were more dealers like these guys

I called in at Hortons recently as I am considering an Octavia estate,I spoke to a salesman who was completely disinterested in me and wandered off to speak to a female customer who appeared in the showroom.Lost a possible sale there then!Bad service.

A bit late now, but only just got back home, We got our Octy L&K about 2 weeks ago, and they were great, we had problems with Lincoln DVLA, who were useless, but Hortons got it sorted for us nad we got our car. Very pleased with car and dealer, I would recommend them, and use them again.

Im a technician and MOT tester and use Hortons for my genuine parts etc when I need any for my Fabia. Know some of the staff there and trained at college years ago with one of the lads who works in parts. Very proffessional outfit who always treat me well! Even when im just there to see parts they will offer me tea and biscuits while I wait! Have no hesitations in using Dennis Horton and Sons, Lincoln probably the best garage ive ever used and Ive worked for many of the others in Lincolnshire whose service is definately sub standard in comparison to Hortons.

Was back in Horton's today to get a new offside mirror glass for the Furby, plus the black cap at the base of the mirror housing, (smashed by a friendly local HGV). Parts supplied and fitted, (in minutes and no labour charge). Top people - apart from not letting me go home with the Octy L&K estate they have in the showroom !! And I did ask nicely.

Truly a great dealership.

I bought an Octavia recently the people I bought it off Evans Halshaw in York lost the key for the locking wheel nuts.I took the car to Hayseldens in Doncaster where I live, they did not have a key to fit.So I went to Hortons what a refreshing change, the wheel nuts were taken off and I even had a drive in the Fabia demo.I will be using them again even though it it 40 miles from me. Well recommended.

Went to see a used car there and was treated extremely well. They responded to my web inquiry within a couple of hours (at 10pm!) and I had a follow up call at start of business the following morning.

Very efficient and friendly. I was almost sorry not to buy the car I saw, but I'd narrowed my search to 2 and the other dealer's car was L&K 130, so no comparison really.

The salesman even offered to deliver the car over 70 miles (each way!) to my house which was something I hadn't even considered. I now understand that this is supposed to be standard with Skoda (nationwide delivery) but wasn't brought up by the place I bought my L&K from. At the time I was astounded by this offer.

I made a point of emailing them and congratulating them on their level of service and attention.

Will consider them for sure when getting the next car. Would heartily recommend them based on my experience so far.

Fantastic deal obtained from Horton Skoda. Looked at their "hot deals" page on the website and saw they had a black VRS CR170 DSG estate for £18095 (£3000 under list). I went in with my Touran 2.0TDi and was offered a similar trade in to other dealers, and got the VRS for £15522. That deal was too good to turn down, and I am now the proud owner of said VRS.

Thanks to John for his handling of the deal - would certainly recommend Horton Skoda, especially with some of the price/finance deals available at the moment.

I agree with all the positive comments above. I have visited several times between service for very minor issues. The staff are always helpful and friendly. I recommend using this dealership.

Just picked up my VRS LE estate from them - John Day excellent in sales (but his job almost done by another customer who was chatting to me while he was getting his MOT done!!!)

Very friendly and professional. Sorted me out really well, with plenty of updates.

Very disappointed with after sales at Horton.

http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/petrol-vrs-sound-like-diesel/157514/

Seems to me they are only interested when there's something in it for them.

New or used I shouldn't have to pay for repairs after only 2000 mile:thumbdwn

UPDATE, Had a courtesy call today and after expressing my disappointment at the whole experience I have had a £85 refund for the price of the plugs.

Well chuffed!

Very good sales....!

When I purchased my car from Dennis Hortons in November I was very pleased with the overall service. I went down to the garage had a look around and spotted a red Fabia vRS so I went in had a chat and decided the best thing to do would be take it on a test drive. After returning there was no hassle from the dealer and the salesman who was dealing with me (Grahame) was very helpful. I went home and after a few hours decided I was going to buy the car so I went back to the dealer to sort things out. Once again very helpful I explained that I could not do the deal unless the car could be ready the next day as I was relying on a vehicle for work, once again not a problem. The next day I picked up the car. The car was gleaming after its guard x treatment and I happily drove away.

Aftersales somewhat dissapointing.... :(

When I bought the car it had 38k on the clock and I thought nothing of it, anyhow I was reading through all the manuals and discovered that the cambelt was overdue due to age and it was requiring its 40k major service in two thousand miles. In addition to after a week I started getting terrible grinding noises from the brakes. I took the car to a local specialist (despite warranty for a second unbiased opinion) the garage told me both front and rear discs were 90% worn and required changing very soon.

With this information I went back to the dealer and spoke with them over the issues I had. There responce was "before selling any car all used cars go through a health check and your car was deemed to be in good health", despite my best efforts they would not carry out the required work. As a result 1 month after buying the car I incurred a £590 bill for service and cambelt and an additional £150 for front and rear brake disc replacement (carried out by myself) so in all £740 not happy at all!

This however wasnt the end of the problem, while carrying out the service the independant garage noticed the fuel filter housing was broken and the fuel filter was moving freely in the engine bay. They quoted £69 to repair, so I explained the warranty situation and they kindly wrote the problem down for me with part numbers required etc. So I went back to Hortons and in fairness they booked it in now problem and said yes its covered under warranty. When I returned the car to the garage to carry out the work they had put on my workcard a £70 diagnostics fee which I immediately questioned as the problem was clearly outlined when booking the car in so it was outrageous to expect me to pay for a diagnostic I had already outlined. Off the assistant went and eventually said no problem and the work was carried out under warranty.

In all I would say they are an average dealer. The sales staff were excellent and I was very pleased with the sales experience however I was dissapointed that the technical aspects of the sale were not better.
