Bickerton Skoda - Sheffield

Recommended Posts

I bought my Mk 1 Octy vRS from Bickertons and can't fault em really. They were ten times better than the local VW dealership that serviced my Polo. The only issue I had was the price of servicing and parts.

I thought I would remedy this by going to a local independent specialist. Walker and Cutting on Wortley Road in Rotherham. Bloody hell they were even more expensive! Should have stuck to Bickerton's!

Not impressed...... I've had 2 cars from them in the past and went back to buy a third. They offered me a really crap part exchange price considering I had been a loyal customer with 2 cars from them under my belt.

Needless to say I went to the competition Gordon Lamb in Chesterfield who instantly offered me £1000 more for my car than Bickertons !!

Needless to say I ordered from GL. The salesman at Bickertons ( who I had never seen before ) seemed amazed that I'd gone somewhere else !!

Well mate thats what you get when you $hit on your loyal customers. Surprise, surprise ....

Salesman didn't even phone me back after a 2 day test drive and telling him exactely what we wanted! I would have expected a phonecall out of courtesy even if he couldn't source what we wanted.

Anyhow I ended up finding one myself from Liverpool!

I'm also not convinced that the service dept is as good as it was, especially now Ian has left. We started using Bickertons because we didn't rate Gordon Lambs but I'll be trying Lambs again now as feedback seems to indicate that the situation has reversed.

Being a Skoda virgin  but been brainwashed over 2 years to go to a dealer and look into a new Octi, I decided to visit Bickertons as it was in Sheffield and relatively close to home.

The salesman (Paul?) was very nice and suggested I take a test drive in their '57 plate VRS Estate. They let me have it last Saturday which was great. Even put 200 miles worth of fuel in for me - which I of course used ;)

So far experience great!

Until Paul looked at my part ex (which had already been valued by a dealer down south - without even seeing the car at £9200), and offered me £7750. Rubbish.

Long and short of it, they wouldn't even entertain doing me a deal!

Instead I contacted Rainworths in Chesterfield who will do the deal and hence ordered a Black Octi VRS estate through them. Sorry Bickerton's, you lost a sale!

I bought my Fabia new from another dealership as Bickerton's weren't willing to match the deal i had got but i have had the car serviced at Bickerton's and also a couple of warranty jobs done. The only thing i would say is if you go in pre-armed with some sort of info regarding the problem they seem to sort the problem out ok.

I had a rattle on the drivers window which only occurred when going over rough roads etc.... i left it with them and was told nothing had been found wrong so took it back out and the fault was still there. I went back in, armed with a printout of what another Briskoda member had told me their dealership had done in the same situation, and spoke to the then service manager who came out and looked at the window, noticed it was quite loose, and then took the car for a drive with me to listen for the noise. As soon as i described when it usually happened he took the car onto a rough bit of road and heard the noise himself straight away. He then said he knew what was causing it and that it was worse than the other Briskoda members fault and got the window regulator replaced rather than adjusted.

Today, i've just taken my car in as the rear washer pipe had come off so when you used the rear washer the water just ran inside the boot door and out of the internal panelling. I asked if there was any chance that they could pop the panel off and put the pipe back in place while i waited around for a an hour or so if needed. They got the car done in less than 10 minutes!!!! and as i say i had just turned up without booking the car in etc....

I've not had any experience as yet with either of our cars having a fault that i have had to take to Bickerton's to try and diagnose so can't comment on there service in that respect.

Cheers

Dave.

I have just bought their '57 Blue vRS diesel estate demonstrator. Found it on the internet, did the deal basically over the phone, and collected the car within a week.

On producing my License, the car was booked out to me for an hour, which was enough time to get on the M1 for a play !

Tony Braithwaite is your man.

Trade in deal was lower than anywhere else, but the car is fully loaded, and cheaper than anywhere else.

Shame they are 100 miles away, else they would be doing the servicing as well.

Cheers Tony

(Promised I would give you a mention didn't I ?)

I have bought both of my Fabias from Bickertons. The first time was at the old site and they were superb. Second time was at the new site and they were less good.

When I was looking to change the old Fabia for an Octavia, Bickertons were awful. I had arranged a test dive and they let me down. They seem to offer rock bottom PX and don't want to negotiate at all.

As for the servicing, its unlikely you'll ever go there once. The last 3 times that I've been there I have had to go back for them to finish the job. The lack of customer care is disappointing given how good they used to be.

picked up my car on Friday having it serviced, not happy as they put too much oil in, had to go back to have it sorted

even invoice says 5l of oil, that is too much, when I questioned this I was told that every car is different and that 5l in furby is ok..... anyway, check your oil levels while you are still at Bickerton's before you drive off

Paul the sales guy its brilliant, really nice guy get you a good deal etc.

Service Department is crap to say the least, they don't seem to care and all they do is stick on diagnostic equipment to your car to find error codes if nothing there they just say "there's nothing wrong with it".

A window leak took 2 months to fix and had to have my cream interior all washed due to the water.

I got my car back yesterday and it looks like someone has dry washed it! scratched all my bonnet which I now need to polish off.

The coolant leak I took it in for drove 20 mile after getting it back to hear a very loud whistling sound popped the bonnet took a look and the noise was coming from the part they had just fitted!!! Its now had to be towed back to them on back of a RAC truck.

I will be taking my car else where for my warranty work from now on.

Hi all,

After last times disappointment with Bickertons this time has been a very very good experience.

Last week my turbo failed on me, got it towed to Bickertons and Simon (Service Manager) sorted me out with a courtesy car straight away.

Simon was always calling giving me updates on what was going on, he even ordered a turbo before even looking at the car just get it back on the road soon as possible, sadly the intercooler and CAT also needed replacing which were ordered and fitted very quickly.

Simon tried getting Skoda to authorize a whole new exhaust system due to the oil leak but they weren't having it :( . While the car was in I had the cambelt done to save me another trip later on which again Simon gave me a great deal on!

Once the car was fixed up Simon took it home and gave it some good runs throughout the rev range to check for any problems before calling me a day later for pickup.

The car has never run so great since i've had it, my rev stutter has gone! Tested on 5 hills which the car had the problem on, hopefully will stay fixed :)

Thank you for your great service and help Bickertons, and a special thanks to Simon for his hard work!

Regards

Steve

Went to Bickertons to look for an Octavia vrs. They didn't have any in stock so left 'em my details.

About an hour later they rang me up and said they had located an '06 at £10,000 with

25k on the clock. The trouble was the part-ex.

My car is a 53 L&K 130PD it has 58000 mile and FSH. It also had the timimg belt and water pump done only 8k ago.

They offered me £3700..Considering every time I visit Bickertons it is free of customers I was expecting more. Even Sell My Car | Sell Your Car | Sell Used Car Online has offered me more.

Am I been too greedy or are Bickertons not been genorous enough?

What should I expect?

On the other hand, i've just got back from Bickerton Skoda.

The parts department are spot on! :)

Hi thought I would post up about my recent dealings with Bickertons.

I had my car serviced there last week as well as some warranty work, and I had it back in for MOT today.

I would like to say my opinion of the place has totally changed.

In the past I have been less than complimentary about the service I received, but all that has changed now.

The service I received from Kev, The main man in the service dept was quite frankly astounding. He has gone out of his way to make sure that my car will be up to my exceedingly high standards ;)

I am going back in next week for a new Jumbo Box console under warranty, and I will be going there for all future work as well, even after the car is out of warranty

A big big thanks to Kevin and all at Bickertons, you have restored my faith in main dealers

Cheers

Damian

Have to agree, Mark and Tom have been superb. They have invested a lot of time in finding out what parts could and couldn't be used for the mods i've considered & done.

Agree too. Kev & the service department has also been top notch. As have their Master Techs

If they can tolerate me and my "What do you think... if I were to change...?" then they are alright by me! In my book there are few dealer left who are happy to work on and develop modified cars  When was the last time you had a main dealer say "Yeah.. we'll have a go at that!"

I went in for a windscreen wiper stalk and the immediately said are you fitting a maxidot?

To my reply, was the computer to go with it ;)

Although thats still on my to do list.

I really like the parts counter at Bickertons. Very helpful and friendly.

I've not bought a car from them, but I've been on a test drive. I forget the salesman's name now - think he had grey hair and a moustache and (I think there might be two such chaps, this one is the shorter, stockier one). He was was very friendly and helpful, not too pushy. Nearly got a sale from me but it wasn't quite the right time.

I've had a few bits of warranty work done on my cars there. The blonde lady on the service desk does listen better and write problems to be resolved down in more detail than one of the guys (can't remember their names, sorry). I read back a job card written out by the lady and it was an excellent transcription of what I'd described. I read back a job card written by one of the guys and there was a real lack of detail which led to a problem not getting fixed as the tech didn't understand. I spoke to the tech in person when I collected the car, demonstrated the problem to him myself in seconds and he understood. A part had to be ordered though which meant another trip down there.

My problem was resolved but at greater inconvenience than there should have been. I hope they take note of this. I've had similar experiences at other dealerships. Accurate and full capture of all the information from a customer regarding a fault is key to getting it resolved efficiently and keeping the customer happy. There is nothing worse than returning to a dealer to pick up a car and seeing the words 'could not reproduce'. If you don't have enough detail on the job card when you're on the car, phone the customer for more information.

Usually I've had good service from Bickertons but the other day I went into the parts dept for an air filter.

The guy who served me was very arrogant and "couldn't be bothered" I got my air filter and some clips for the engine cover.

After travelling 10 miles home through Sheffield city centre,I got home to discover the filter was the wrong one,and so were the clips.

I went all the way back, the same guy mumbled something about batch numbers and changed the filter. He wasn't interested about the clips. He never apoligized.

I have written a letter of complaint to the parts manager and I am witing a reply, will keep you posted.

Great warranty experience at Bickerton Skoda this week. I've had a droning, rumbling sound for a while which has been getting worse. I called in on Wednesday afternoon to book it in to be looked at. I described the problem and said I believed it was a rear wheel bearing. Vanessa said I could bring it in on Friday (today).

I brought the car in just before 9. I went to have a cup of coffee in the waiting area and worked remotely for a bit on their customer PC. The car was ready for 10, near side rear wheel bearing replaced! Vanessa had ordered a bearing based on my description of the problem, which had enabled them to do the job straight away. I also noted the description of the problem on the job card was a perfect transcription of what I'd said when I booked it in. As I've said previously, I think this makes all the difference.

Genuinely excellent service. Thanks!

I always try and see Vanessa if possible as she always takes the time to note down any info you have regarding any problems on the car. The other guys on the desk don't always seem to note down any info you have.

Actually just phoned today to book the mrs' vRS in for it's 40k service and cambelt/water pump change and spoke to Vanessa. She remembered she had quoted a price for this a couple of months ago and booked us in for next Thursday for the service along with a couple of other issues that want looking at.

Cheers

Dave.

Quoting isn't first-hand feedback.
