Bickerton Skoda - Sheffield

Recommended Posts

I also dealt with tony and found the whole experience excellent. After being given crap figures by dm Keith in Leeds I left and emailed Bickerton skoda. Tony emailed me back the next day with the figures I wanted and agreed a purchase over the phone with a part ex value for my car without it being seen ( subject to change when viewed)

I left a couple of messages as tony was always busy when i phoned bug tony would always phoned back and lets know where we were in the delivery process.

Pick up was much the same. I arrived about 10 minutes late and tony was on the phone. He gave me the keys and said go look around it, made me a coffee, sorted paper work and went through the hand over. No stress at all.

Ill be using them for servicing I reckon. It is a trek from Leeds but I've really been put off by using the Leeds dealership.

I'll be using Autohaus Dolby after Bickerton quoted way over the odds for a small job yesterday (3 times the cost!), brilliant service from the little independent too!

I've been using Autohaus for anything I don't fancy doing - top notch :)

I've previously been to Hayselden Doncaster to enquire about extended warranties and got a price from them of £299 for a year. They didn't have a booklet with the terms in to give me, so I called in at Bickerton today to get a price and booklet from them. They didn't have a booklet either, and their price is £379, plus forty odd quid labour to do a '52 point inspection' on the car first. I asked whether this inspection is chargeable even if I took out the warranty, to be bluntly told "yes". So they are £120+ more expensive.

This is my first experience with them, and may well be my last. Having read the reviews on here of all the dealers anywhere near to me, I don't know where the hell to take my car if it needs any work doing. They all sound crap, and Bickerton seem to be expensive, and crap.

Hiya JB-)

There are a few non-main-dealer VAG specialists in and around Sheffield so I'd suggest they are your best bet - mine have certainly not been near a dealer for some time now but then they are older than yours!

Hi mate.

It will be going to Bowes Motors in Rotherham who are brilliant. The only worry is if any warranty jobs come up, then I'm stuck with the question of which dealer to use Skoda.

If it is warranty work I think you'll be OK with Bickertons - my experience has been that the workshop and parts are pretty good - it's the client-facing side and sales side of things that is lacking...

well after paying a visit to Bickertons Sheffield on saturday to look at a Green VRS Fabia to which they said it was at there other site, which wasnt a problem they gave me a card for if I would like them send the car to sheffield to look at. (good impression)

have sent them an email (early this morning) to get more info and say that Im interested in the car, and what can I say..............Ive not heard a sausage, I appreciate they may be busy but some sort of confirmation would be nice (not such a good impression)

I'll give it a day or two

The other site will be Rainworth at Mansfield who, from a sales point of view, I highly recommend. Particularly a guy called Steve Cantrell (if he's still there).

The same happened with my Superb - I'd seen a nearly new one online at Rainworth but really wanted a new one (having always had brand new cars before). I went into Bickertons to discuss prices and mentioned the Rainworth one. The salesman said he'd look into getting it up for me to try the in the next day or so.

I was going to leave it at that but being the impatient type I drove to Rainworth straight after I'd left Bickertons. I was offered a test drive of the nearly new one within minutes of arriving and bought it on the spot. It was a hassle free sale with no pressure and I was very happy with the negotiated price.

Two days later I got a voicemail from Bickerton saying that they could get the car for me to try the next day. Given that I'd already put a deposit down on it I didn't return their call...

It's a shame really as they lost out on two sales that week - my Superb and the wife's Fabia that we weren't even looking for but liked the look of on the Rainworth forecourt and bought a week later. They also failed to sell me my Octavia 6 years ago (Gordon Lamb got that sale).

I think Steve Cantrell used to work fro Gordon Lamb and is the guy we bought our Fabia off 13 years ago... when the Bickertons sales guy wouldn't even say what the monthly cost of the car woul dbe on finance until we'd signed for it (idiot!)

You are correct Steve worked at Gordon Lamb. I travelled to the Factory with him a couple of years ago when I was at Rainworth. A top bloke.

He never did get back to me, but we thought we'd give them another chance. Went today with the intention of buying. I asked for the 2-year extended warranty to be thrown in. Saw a different a salesman, who didn't seem interested from the outset, and after discussing it with his manager, he refused to give us the warranty. So we got up and left. No attempt to stop us. Apparently he had moved onto the next customer before we were out the door! After my initial disappointment we went to Gordon Lamb and got the deal we wanted. Seems a strange way to run a business to me. Jeff didn't even follow up my initial test drive, and today they let a sale slip through their fingers. Needless to say, I won't be returning.

Ordered £100+ of spares online from them a week ago. All I've received so far is an email telling me how much money I'll save if I subscribe to their newsletter via a (broken) link - not even an acknowledgement of my order. All that's on their website now is a phone number. Cowboys or scammers? Either way, I have a nasty feeling I'm not going to see either my spares or my money again.

Phoned today. Problem with the website, apparently: orders not coming through properly. Very apologetic. I'm told my order was sent today (which sounds credible, because I was also told what the parcel contained) and will arrive tomorrow.

I ordered a new door lamp via their website about a fortnight ago. Arrived reasonably quickly and in good nick. No complaints from me regarding their parts service.

My parts arrived today, present and correct, so all's well that ends well. The delay was perhaps due to reasons beyond the control of the Parts dept, but I do think their IT guys could have put something a bit more reassuring on the 'website down' page for those awaiting an order. (They've done so on the site that's now back up.) Parts could also have emailed me when the order was received and when it was dispatched. Most companies do that these days. I also had to phone to get a receipt, since none was in the parcel. Again, that was emailed helpfully and immediately, but I really shouldn't have had to ask. Seems that good staff are being let down by poor systems. They seem to be the only game in town for those of us without a nearby dealership. Maybe they need some competition.
