New VRS owner - 2002 Black Magic

Recommended Posts

This is my 4th Skoda and I'm currently coming from a MK1 TDi superb.. I bought this from my brother last week. 02 with 89k on it, he has owned it from 65k.  good history with it.. current spec below.

Standard apart from:

2.0 Tfsi coilpacks

United motorsport re-map

megatron badges!! courtesy of pastyboy - will probably change them back to new style skoda badges as i'm 37 and not 12!!

Alpine headunit

Car pulls well although I have just ordered some new plugs for it..  couple of wee things to sort - armrest and also the lacquer has peeled from the rear spoiler, I may get the bumper strips painted at the same time.. I added front mudflaps last week.. can't believe the muck I pulled out of the arches when fitting them..

I gave it a good going over when I got it.  snow foam, wash, clay and wax with collinite. interior was wet vacced and then the seats etc wiped over with poorboys natural look dressing. mats even got some stripes..

Welcome to the Black Magic VRS 1 club - I've been a member for over 4 years now!

I couldn't be a 'chooser' as I was a 'beggar' when I was looking for one, so had to choose the nicest example I could for my budget at the time. It just so happened to be a black one.

That said, I do think it is the colour to have. There's a silver one near me that, despite looking nice, just doesn't have the same stealth presence. Yellow is ridiculous (sorry YellowCar :D ) although I think I could also love a red one - they look pretty cool too.

The paint is finished well, mine is 15 now and she still looks great. No bad paint, corrosion or rust anywhere - and in the sunlight, especially after a clay / polish / wax, sparkles beautifully. There are so many rainbow colours of metallic in the paint. It's lovely.

Enjoy your new car , and don't be a stranger on here my friend!

Small update.. got the spoiler and bumper trims painted and back.  still have to either remove the glue from the doors or put the strips back on.. also did the oil last night and plugs and swapped the headlight bulbs out.. getting there!!.

Front bumper trim in and friends intercooler for his S3.. although it does look good.. hmmm.

Tar and glue remover and a toffee wheel off ebay. You stick it in your drill. I've got one ready to do mine but not had chance yet. I'm scared there will be a stain under the strips like there was when I debadged the letters.

Don't use a toffee wheel just a bit of heat off ya finger or a microfibre cloth with bug and tar remover works might take longer than the toffee wheel but you don't risk knacking the paint and needing a respray

Was going to try it gently and see how it goes, but may just try without now you've said that. Others have used them with no problems, suppose it depends how hard you have to work. But like you say tar and glue remover is the important stuff.

Got them from Pastyboy on here.. You can buy them if you want when I take them off.

I had a go with Tardis last night, coming off fine, about 20 mins for 1/2 the front foor. but there is a lacquer line and also small dimples in the paint at the indent, so I think the trims will be going back on.. at least I got them painted!!

That's what I'm scared of, yellow pigment seems to be pretty intolerant of contamination.

Here is a pic of the with the side strips removed.. You can see nearly like pitting or wee white dots.. So I ended up just fitting the side strips back on.
