Deposit Paid on Yeti, but questions for you guys!

Hi guys,

Now progressed from my little fabia on to a Yeti.

Put a deposit down today on a 2012 2.0 tdi SE+ 4x4 (manual).

I do however have a question that I can't find the answer to and the salesman just looked at me blankly when I asked.

Where it the MDI input socket?? I couldn't find it anywhere, but I know it must have one for the headunit (Amundsen+) to have 2 aux options!

Google has been no help at all...

Cheers!

Hi,

If it's like mine it's a flying lead in the cubby on the top middle of the dash....

HTH

EDIT: Meant to say also that you probably need adapter lead(s) depending on what you need to plug it into.

The MDI is and was an optional extra and many people did not specify it-you almost certainly haven't got one fitted if there is no socket for it.It can be retro fitted and the canbus system coded accordingly on my 2010 it was an easy enough to plug in module and the coding was done in seconds by a local independent VAG specialist. It isn't Plug and Play but tantalisingly close to being so. A search of this forum will reveal threads from which I learned where to acquire the hardware and how to get it coded.

Odd - I would have thought it would have one somewhere given that the headunit has 2 aux options enabled on it and the manual for the headunit mentions it! I'll have to have a proper look when I pick up the car at the weekend.

Thanks for the responses guys.

my car has an Amundsen +, there is a 3.5 jack near the bottom rh corner of the head unit, but haven't found any other, perhaps its on the rear of the unit for the likes of reversing camera etc

My unit is probably '13, year car built, but first reg Feb '14

Unless the previous owner requested an MDI as option then it wont have one as std, altho locations vary from Glove box, to cubby under radio.

Might be worth going back & searching the cabin or asking again of 1 was fitted when bought new.

Your infotainment should have an SD card slot that will take up to 64GB card ( well my Octy did)  That should give plenty of space for music / Audio books.

PIcked it up today, and have had a good rummage this evening.

There's definately no MDI port :(

Shame, but a 64gb sd card will have to suffice. Might sell the iPod classic now!

Enjoying the Yeti though, think I might have to get the spare wheel kit though, not sure about relying on compressed goo...

I would, but if I spend any more money on the car for a couple on months then I might end up missing parts of my anatomy courtesy of the wife...

I've been allowed to buy mats and that's it so far...

My Roomster was a YM 2014 and MDI cables were still a factory fit option then..I think that was standard across most of the range unless you went for elegance trim..Not having a clue what such a fitment does, I went for the heated seats instead

Enter it into your search criteria on *Bay to be emailed whenever one appears. They come up quite often.

Have you checked in the armrest storage box, 'twas there in my friend's March 2013 Yeti. As above, MDI as an option is in the cubby in front (looking from the driver's seat) of gear lever.

One of my only gripes about my Yeti is the position of MDI which ought to be in either the glove box, armrest or dash-top box to keep your i-pod out of the way of prying eyes. Has anyone seen a 'how-to' on repositioning the MDI connection to a less prominent place?

Clarification from the audio experts please, isn't the AUX IN via 3.5mm socket different to the MDI interface?

The 3.5mm AUX IN on my FL SE is just behind the gear/DSG selector and obscured from view by the armrest.

Not an expert but MDI is like a computer interface so is two way and will show on the display and accept instructions from the wheel or head unit so can choose tracks or scroll through content. 3.5 jack will accept audio input say from the headphone socket of an ipod and play it at volume chosen from head unit/wheel

On my Amundsen+ the 3.5in jack is on the fascia of the radio itself.

The MDI socket is in the cubby at the base of the centre console.

And as has been said, they are very different interfaces - one just allows simple audio input, the other is an active interface that provides full control of the connected device from radio & steering wheel controls, display of music data on the radio & maxidot, and charging of the attached device.

Well spoken that man and 137699! I thought that was the way it was but I think some confusion has crept in, or is it just me? :dull:
