Show Us Your Ride - Past & Present Bike Pics

FUBAR

Recommended Posts

I am going have gone through the original 'Briski Bikers Come Forward' thread and dragging out all posts of current/past bikes, so it can be more easily viewed and continued on here. This will take some time took an eternity to not go over the max quotes and emotions etc in a post :o Only posts with user hosted pics would carry over, ones uploaded to the forum didn't so a few missing as such.

Was great to have a 3 year trip back over the thread :) Really felt like yesterday seeing some of the posts from 2012 :o Some awesome machines that people have shared, I think they were going to waste hidden randomly throughout the big thread. Now you can fly through them and enjoy the awesomness!

Please share any pics of your old bikes, current bikes or new bikes in here for us. We have some amount of biking history in here!!

Ok I know Briskoda is a car orientated forum and I am not trying to take anything away from that hence this is in "Off Topic" I just thought as we bikers occasionally run into each other on here it would be nice to have a clearer picture of who the Briskodian bikers are and what we ride. Any pics and mods listed would also be great.

We have the tech shed and photography sections too that are not specific to cars so I hope this is ok.

Any prospective bikers out there looking for some advice, guidance or general inspiration feel free to ask I am yet to meet a biker who would not be more than happy to pass on any knowledge they have gained over the years.

My first bike was a 2000 Kawasaki ZZR 600 E7 (stock bar double bubble / alarm)

Do ex-bikers count?

This isn't mine but it's exactly the same to what I had

IMG_1696.jpg

1992 ZXR400L

Rear shock was like a piece of stone. Did 10hr on it one day and could hardly walk for 3 days after it.

This is my current ride...
A Tiger 1050 with heated grips, scottoiler, HIDs, self built LED indicators and hazards, autocom and full luggage.
It's been all over the UK and France and has briefly seen Italy and Switzerland.

F31D0001-3.jpg

It replaced a 900 Hornet which, as you can see, was not standard  ;)

a4cbb751.jpg

Before that a Hornet 600FS

DSCF2531web.jpg

And going back from there was:
2000 Kawasaki ZX6
1992 RRN Blade bought 2nd hand in 1995 (why I ever sold it is still a mystery to me)
CB900 F2
CB750F
400 Superdream
250 Dream
SL250
And my first was a Honda SS50 5 speed moped.

I am currently eyeing up the Explorer, Crosstourer, Crossrunner and both versions of the Tiger 800

Been in and out of bike for to many years than I care to remember now (passed my test in 1977). Like a lot of people I've lost lots of my photos but heres a few of the bikes i have now

I need to get some new photos of the bikes i think

Rubbish at photography - but here's one of current bike

Gladiuscropped.jpg

Haven't got many of my older bikes - but here's one of me riding the XJ600 wearing the most ridiculous boots - clearly fashion before safety
yamahaXJ600-cropped.jpg

Alan - the Kawa KH500 was an awesome bike - sounded fab and like you say wheelied for England. Did try and kick start one once - hysterical  - jumped up and down on the kickstart for ages - but didn't really have enough weight behind me and when I did manage to turn the engine , the bleeding kickstart whacked me in the leg and sent me flying

God bless - electric starts that's what I say

A friend of mine is currently restoring a KH500. It sounds wicked!

8dad5405.jpg

God, I miss those two strokes.
Never had one but just love the smell and sound!  :)

He must have too much time on his hands... He's just got his hands on a Z900 and a Z650 to keep the KH company

Some of the details and the picture were missing from my above post.

It's done just over 17,000 Km so it's low mielage too.

Heres a picture with the pillion seat attached. It looks much better with the single race unit on ;-)

I love my zx9r , it's the f2p so the very last of them , just thinking of moving to more upright and sedate tho , maybe zrx or bandit , or maybe a sv1000 but naked , had gixxer thou , zx12, hayabusa and loved them but the speed is accessed way to easy , one of my favourites was a fzr1000 exup , brilliant bike .20120604_143748.jpg

Its in brilliant nick ,been cherished , got all the tools book and even original bill of sale , looked at a few that were supposedly mint , they weren't , brilliant value nowadays , go for the f series tho as the brakes are much better along with other stuff like braced swingarm engine mounts etc.

Here's a few of my recents, I passed my test in 1980 something on my RD250DX and have never been without a bike since, sometimes lucky enough to have 2 or 3 in the garage but those days are gone  :)

Always fancied one of these or a Vertemati S501 once i get rid of the DRZ....or a totally sorted SXV 550

Over 30 years since passing my test, so there are a fair few more if I get time to dig out the scanner, a couple of Buells, 916, 900SS, Blackbird, GSXR1000 K3, GSXR1100H, GSXR750 WN, ThunderAce, 1100GS, RD250, 350LC, GT250, GT380, GT550, GT750....... I wish I had the cash and the space to have a few of those again.

I'm a huge biking fan but not currently riding  This is a picture of me and my TL1000s (the widow maker) img001.jpga few years ago. Excuse the slightly gay pose lol!

Well Fubar, I hope this works, 'cos it's taken me ages to figure it out (never was much good with techie stuff). You should be able to see a piccy of the Jim, nearly killer, obviously a before shot as there wasn't much left of it after.  :giggle:
Let me know if it works out OK please.

Hello all, been away for a while, not that I imagine anyone would have noticed.

This is my BMW F650 (funduro) stupidist name on the planet, but I love the bike. Went from a bandit 600 to this (650). Its a 1994 and is in fairly good condition, don't see too many of them about. I do use it on and off the road, by off road I mean green laning and that kind of thing.

I also have a 1976 harley ss125, quite rare, I would upload a picture of it, but it is in boxes in restoration mode. So in about 10 years I will come back to this thread and upload it in its glory.

Cheers for reading

Dan

Hey Fubar, I found some pics of my rather second hand "new" helmet if I do the links you can have a look. It's on Photobucket, I have also found some pics of the yellow peril.
I have deleted my Photoshop account because I can't work out how to use the damn thing properly. (Told you I had memory issues)  :giggle:
Hey the pics come up right away with Photobucket so you won't have to do any faffing about for me after all  :whew:

I loved the colour, BRIGHT YELLOW! and I mean BRIGHT! I also had a yellow Micra at the time as I said it was my yellow phase! In fact I'm sure I have pics of them together I'll embarrass myself with a photo now I know how.

Hello All,

Noticed this thread starting to slow so thought I'd finally stop being lazy and post a piccy of the ZZR600.

It's a 2001 E7 with 43k on the clock.. got a givi monokey rack, Baxlux leather tank bag, stainless steel headers, alarm/immob, tinted double bubble and scottoiler

A great first bike, really good on fuel (last ride did 130 miles to £14) easy to ride and seriously quick when you need the power!

Mine is on the left, my friends E3 is on the right, ZZR FRIENDS  :giggle:

Well its all done now on Saturday I left at 4am your time in the dark and heavy rain woke up the ZZR1400 and hit the road with a tank bag and a backpack on then it turned to very heavy rain! Back wheel was spinning up something shocking, hit Brugge and it cleared dry and sun starting to come out FANTASTIC stretched her legs and had one last proper ride on it to the tunnel 'O' love and up threw England. Once I arrived I had JUST left the tyres legal and I mean just! (that was noted). Took the new one back down to Folkestone in nice sunny weather not too hot and a biker friendly hotel for the night and back this morning again clear blue skies and dry 22Deg C perfect!

Just before I pushed it into the garage I took a few snaps on mobile to share. It looks fairly clean pics can deceive but it has done 450-470 miles ish and looking fine for it all nice dry miles.

It rides very well had never even sat on one before but in the same light while some may think thats not a good way to buy a bike...... Its not but thats just how I do things same with the Octavia. It feels more agile than my old GSXR1000 K1 feels like a approx 150kg bike not 231kg the raised bars are the biggest change as the old ZZR was also a sports tourer felt so small but so smooth and easy to turn. I have supposedly to keep under 4000 rpm to start with for 600 miles but in 6th that was 58mph so nuts to that was not feasible went for 5000rpm instead and varied engine speed and load. I am down from 220bhp to 138bhp but is a lot easier to sit at a reasonable speed on it and the adjustable screen was ace sitting up at 80mph ish on motorway threw France, Belgium and Netherlands on way back. Bad bit was I forgot to recharge ipod and also to turn it off last night so I had NOTHING for entire ride back but helmet karaoke  :o .

ps. SO SO SO glad I didn't got for a versys as at 64bhp I think I would have been very very annoyed this 1043cc unit seems to have plenty to give and did better mpg on way back than way out on ZZR which used 3x 24 litre tanks  :o

I went for a "look" at bikes this morning and what can I say, pick it up Saturday 09 Kawasaki er650f it's only done 600 miles and is mint can't wait!

Well I've been trying to figure out where my bike pictures had gone since post #52 back in April, I managed to find a couple of poor quality pics on my old broken PC in the loft, but sadly no vfr pics - I'm a bit gutted tbh these grainy pics are all I've got of my bikes  :(

I just spotted this thread, I've had many bikes over the years of very different types and capacities. Anyway this is my current bike, not used much recently due to our great weather. My Yamaha FZ6 S2.

Here's the KTM after I was hit by VW Golf. The poor Golf was in far far worse condition.

Comparing to the TDM, the SMT is a lot lighter (nearly 30kg and will be over 40kg once I change the cans to Ti Akro's), it has more power 86 vs 115, have a much better choice of tyre due to the 17 front rather than the 18. Much more agile, a lot quicker to accelerate, however the top end speeds are comparable at about 140mph. I've already run out of space on the tyre so not much more to learn over.  :D For a modern bike there is also an amazing amount of space under the seat. I have a puncture repair kit, a pump, tool kit, visor cleaner, pressure guage, silk glove liners, spare ear plugs, waterproof trousers, a duster, a pot of vaseline, and still manage to get a friends thermal jacket liner in there. The WP suspension is very good, need to get it setup up properly, Brembo radial brakes, and master cylinders make stopping frightening if you're not used to it. The engine is sweet maybe ever slightly more viby than the I2 of the TDM, but nothing compared to the NC700 that I test rode. It comes with ABS and soft panniers as standard so you can start touring straight away.

The seat height is slightly less than the TDM, and the weight is carried a lot lower than the TDM (which is one of the reason that I started looking for another bike).

The instrument is clear and simple, no fuel guage however (do miss that from the TDM, but it was the same on the previous bike). It would be a nice feature along with a BMW style computer but it's just a nice gadget.

The two areas where the TDM has the advantage is fuel economy SMT 140 to reserve compare to 190 on the TDM. Also on comfort the TDM has a slight advantage. However I intend to get the gel seat so should be just as good. And the fueling is a little bit harsh at low speeds and revs. Looking having it changed, as it is a result of the emissions regulations.

Very very happy overall, the only time I regretted selling the TDM was when I have her all cleaned and polished trying to sell, and then part exchanging. But as soon as I was on the SMT, never looked back.

It's a bike that just wants the throttle to open more more more more.  :D

Oops ????Here is my current steed

Some lovely machine's going on in this thread, amazing how many responses are coming through on a car forum, had a similar thread on a subaru forum, got less than a third of the interest that this one has! I guess there's something about bikers and skoda's? :-D

I've been riding a few years, passed my test in 1991, I have a wee list of rare beasty's I will try and sprinkle in some pics.......

Thought I'd post this up...............it's sort of how I mushed my leg and ankle..........(see earlier post in this thread).

ok ive been into bikes ever since i can remember however do to not seeing the point in owning a road going 50 i got my first road bike at 22

kawasaki kr1250
Untitled-1.jpg

then came kawasaki zzr600 e4
Untitled-4.jpg

bought this to run along side the zzr a peugeot speedfight 100
93370A33-1887-4F19-81F8-800499BB4AC0-742

sold them both and bought this zx6r j2
Untitled-8.jpg

i took a year off bikes but due to a split with a ex and me moving back home i had some spare money and bought these 2, a nc30 and yz400
Untitled-6.jpg

the nc30 quickly made way for this zx7r
048.jpg

sold that to help purchase my new house! 7 months in the new house and this arrived gsxr 600
CameraPictures176.jpg

that made way for my fireblade rr6
IMG_1855.jpg

my wrists started to give way after 18 months and 20k so i sold it to buy a 954 fireblade and a car for general running about
IMG_3209.jpg

well due to my wrists i crashed it!!! so after 4 years i got tempted back by the cheap running of a moped hence the arrival of the jetforce 125
CAF59469-9C21-4928-8CF0-5980C6D92320-742

well that didn't last long due to it being rubbish and made way for a honda pcx 125
EC01B591-BBA3-4F35-AF50-9E27BAA644CE-179

i then sold my vrs and the temptaion got to much i traded the pcx in for my triumph speed triple

Having sold my 7R a few weeks ago, i've now got to make a decision regarding "wee yella".

Pretty much giving up on road riding, been lucky the past 17 years to not have had a huge accident.

Question is do i sell wee yella or keep her as a track bike? Know i'll get wasted on the straights but can batter anything in the twisties lol.

drz1.jpg

Am actually finding it more of a struggle contemplating selling wee yella than i was the 7R.

Some great bikes in here  :)

Here's my 2002 yz 426f
8525f749.jpg

It's nothing startling compared to some of the beauties in here but i've had it about 5 years now,it was great fun bike for the first couple of years and when I could use it to commute to work in the warmer months etc but as I now work about 30 miles from home and it's too highly strung to do that distance day in day out and as i don't really get the time to ride it in my spare time it's been sorn'd for two years  :( I should just sell it on and let someone else enjoy it but can't bring myself to sell lol

Born Again Biker, me.

Not a patch on some of the lovely metal in the previous 30 pages, but I love to ride this thing!

IMG_4378.jpg

Started out on a Honda PC50, when the world was still in black-and-white.
"Progressed" to more powerful machines (there weren't any LESS powerful!!), ending with a '78 GS1000 Suzuki, which I still have in the back of a garage somewhere.

A couple of years ago, some guys from work asked me if I wanted to go to Spain on an off-roading weekend. Answer: YES. Thinks: Haven't ridden a bike in 30 years.
Out came the MCN and I bought the little Honda. Road legal Motocrosser - and doesn't it show it's pedigree at times!
Got in some Green Laning practice in Wales and South Shropshire with some TRF guys.
Thought I'd sell the bike after the Spanish trip, but NO WAY.
So much fun to ride, and you're not going too fast. No lorries or lampposts, just the odd sheep and barbed wire.

So now I'm not a fair weather biker like I used to be. I love the mud and slippy stuff, and even a bit of snow and ice occasionally.

The bike is far better than I'll ever be, and it red-lines at 70 in top, power wheelies in the first 3 gears, even with fat bloke on it
A full days off-roading - about 150 miles - on less than a tenner's worth of petrol. Cheap thrills indeed.

IMG_4640.jpg

And yes, this is a fully legal road!

Mike

:o WANT!

8583162277_cd3028a899_o.jpg

It's these sorts of questions I want to ask especially about servicing. I know it's got 9mths MOT left on it and according to the DVLA it's still taxed. Normally that's the first thing people cash in when part-exing.

been riding bikes and spending lots of money on them for 30 year love em had alsorts this is what i've got at the moment ,1250 bandit and my stroker kh250
bandit_zpse6087ae0.png
kh1_zps71fa5167.png

Well after a 100 mile and a very windy ride back it's home. Was hoping for it to be calmer but was headwind or sidewind all the way and was quite hairy at times especially around 70mph. Bike feels really good and gives confidence. Accelerates well once I'd got used to changing gear. Rode to Ross on Wye and stopped for a stretch and a drink. Found my wrists hurt but expected this. After the stop they were fine but did stop again for another stretch and to warm my fingers up a bit. They weren't too bad but I will need stronger gloves.

Oh and here's the proof  :D Pics could be better but I'll take a few more after I detail it. Not that it really needs doing it's spotless. Next stage is to fit crash bungs, a double bubble screen and a new tax disc holder. Chuffed to bits with it.

Be safe gents

Mine's a Renegade and was quite expensive (bought it new), but their customer service from Jorge was absolutely fantastic and a great bunch of guys. Unfortunately, they've moved to Portugal. You can occasionally find them on ebay and the like. Also, they were one of the few to make a twin system which (according to rolling road figures) did give an extra few HP. But I love mine and they do sound nice. I'll record a video clip and post

Anything will sound better than the OEM though which makes the bike sound more like a hair dryer than anything else  I changed mine purely on "safety" reasons - so people can hear me coming. I found it particularly useful when I was filtering on the M25 car park at the time.

An aftermarket can often gets rid of a small flat spot that OEM cans are tuned to for noise reasons. I also get a nice induction-like turbo sound from about 5k too

Had a change from the aforementioned SV650S 7 years newer, much smoother and a hell of a lot more comfortable on a good run.

I have put the red wheel tape on one side only until I make my mind up.

Comments welcome.

Don't get me wrong I got adrenaline rush from riding like that. But every decision was like life and death (or extreme pain).

I use the bike to ride to destinations rather than one of those rides to where ever the road takes you!

Does look bloody good though

Well today was spent cleaning the Fabia and fitting my new exhaust to the Street Triple.
Sounds like a proper bike now!!

she needed a couple of things tidied, rear brake hose, rear wheel bearing and chain/sprockets did'nt have much left in them, but all sorted in a weekend and the fun has commenced! have had lots of experience on road bikes but have had to really lean on my many years of downhill mountain biking skills to keep up with my riding buddies but happy to report that I didn't disgrace myself out on the first ride and my commute to work has now become far more entertaining    happy days ahead!

Triumph Daytona 650, unusually for a triumph it's a 4 pot. I spent the winter fettling it then on one of the first rides of the year a pigeon kamikaze'd the headlights braking the nose fairing.

Picked it up at the weekend with the help of Pete of this Parish  :) Certainly different and a lot of fun to ride. Can't wait to start modding, my GSA feels like the Star Ship Enterprise in contrast. Did 160 ish miles on Sunday with a big retro **** eating grin over my face. Now to start a bit of modding.

My 2013 S1000RR bought new in June covered 2000 miles and a few track days she's tucked up for winter.

When I got her OEM Bridgestones off and some sticky Metzeler Racetec K3's fitted. See picture.

Track day at Cadwell she was only 600 miles old!!

Few modifications made full Akrapovic exhaust, Evotech everything (fantastic kit), GB crash protection and double bubble.

This thing loves rear tyres!!

Thread revival, by way of introducing myself. Just joined this forum (just got a Yeti) and was directed to this thread.

Passed test July 1975. Bikes in order :'57 Triumph 6T Thunderbird sidecar outfit; '63 BSA A65; '76 Triumph TR7RV (Tiger 750); '77 MZ TS250; '78 Honda CB750 K6. Then - a lay off for 14 years, following a ban (racing what turned out to be a police car after 5 pints of Bass after a girlfriend dumped me, 1981). Started again with a '79 BMW R65; followed by '81 BMW R100RS; '02 Aprilia RST Futura (written off after my first crash since 1979); and, currently, another '02 Aprilia RST Futura, which I've had for 5 years. I've also got two BMW K100s which I'm very slowly renovating.

I'm in Cleobury Mortimer, South Shropshire. Grew up in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire; several years in Manchester (university, then working); 10 years in West Bromwich & Wednesbury (working for Sandwell MBC); moved here in 1989.

May as well put a picture of my Triumph Legend TT  on here its a 1999 model with 20,000 on the clock really good comfy cruiser.

I've just started biking this year. 24 seems a strange age to get up and do a CBT but I've always been thinking about bikes as a more enjoyable way of getting from A to B - now it's rapidly becoming an addiction! I know I could have gone direct access but for learning the ropes a 125 is ideal - lightweight, cheap to repair and run (100mpg anyone?). I will be doing my full test at some point, until then here's my little YBR 125, L plates and all

Hi,

I have a Cagiva Xtra Raptor that looks like this:-

71-M.jpg

This photo was taken whilst I was out on last years Round Britain Rally, a photographic scatter rally run through the summer each year, just getting ready for this years rally.

The bike uses the Suzuki TL1000 engine, it is a limited edition, only 1000 were made.

Am hoping to be at Squires Cafe this Sunday.

Just bought my new baby (even matches my Monte Carlo)

Just the photos from the garage, will add my own when I pick her up (don't think I was this excited when I got my Monte new)

aj10ojb-2640x480_zps5740760b.jpg

aj10ojb-3640x480_zps235a67c6.jpg

One very careful owner (who looked after her more than his wife)

I'm back on two wheels!!

Picked up my 2004 Suzuki DR-Z 400 E yesterday, only 3424 miles on the clock! it's a greenlane bike but has spent most of its life garaged unused, hence the mileage.

I paid £1700 for it which is a great price? although she requires mot and tax. (not a problem for me).

Does anyone know anything about DR-Z Enduro edition?

basically its a hardcore version of the road going drz.

The E comes with a much much better carb, more aggressive cam, higher compression, thicker suspension, no rear subframe and minimal electrics.

Although she does have that important electric start!

I know im waffling but im really excited and happy with her and can't wait to give her a good riding!!

image_zps8947ff9f.jpg[/uRimage_zpsb0da0d10.jpgL]

image_zpsac4272a2.jpg

Me and the wife gave it a good clean today, the fairings are scuffed but the bike itself is in great condition.  The previous owner spent LOTS on trick bits. Including talon hubs and excel rims. and a full crd exhaust system  :)

I thought about going, but as I've just bought myself one I thought it pointless (would have had a go on a Trophy though)

Just found a pic of my old 'widow maker' .
This TL1000 s was just epic! Despite its ledgendary reputation it wiped the floor with my mates Fireblade every ride out.
Yes I sorted the handling well enough to grind the hero blobs off both foot pegs and 'duff up ' anything that thought it was hard enough to take it on. It was the most fun I ever had with my leathers on ! Even rode if down to the costa del sol 3 times.
Preferred it to my R1.

My new toy....

Meet the Grandad bike - I think I'm a little young for this bike and I have not met anyone under 40 riding one!

My god does it go though!!

I bought it as a non runner for scrap money, needed a new ecu and loom and its alive!

Just 'won' an ebay auction with a starting bid of 4k on a 2013 Er6f

which will be a year old on the 8th June. 1200miles on the clock

Still has Kawasaki warranty and is in the current livery and colour.

To seal the deal nicely it also comes with a full set of matching genuine

kawasaki panniers in matching colour and a pair of SIDI boots (size 9, same as me.... handy)

and a leather jacket.  The guy selling it said in the ad that he's finished his

mid life crisis so selling up. Handy... i've just started mine...

I've only got a couple of pics from the ad so far, it's in Stoke on Trent so

it's maiden voyage will be a fairly long run down to Bristol, hopefully I'll be off

to collect this weekend.

Here's the pics.

I think it's safe to say I can't wait....

My insurance for the year is £128 full comp which I think is brilliant when

you consider I have zero bike no claims and have only just got my licence.

Damn I hope the weather stays like this across next weekend.

Happy to whore some pics  and a quick review so far.

And I'm loving it, such a light nimble bike compared to the 600 Fazer I passed on.

The Dunlop Roadsmart II tyres are awesome and reward a bit of commitment.

I'm already only 1cm from max lean on the tread and I haven't been sodding about

taking chances. They are just very confidence inspiring tyres.  Did about 70 odd miles

riding round the lanes on Sunday with my pal Sally following on her GT550 going nowhere

in particular. Got lost and found ourselves again.

Am about to pull the trigger on a Motorcycle Garmin at 3 and a bit hundred quid though. LOL

We need a new one anyway and the Garmin comes with lifetime free maps and all the additional

kit needed to use it in car as well which is what swung it for us, pricey yes, but we can share it so don't

need two. .

The ride home was fairly dull straight line motorway riding following the wife in our Fiat

as she had a sat nav in there and I wouldn't have found the way back easily from the

guy I bought it froms house.

Did 130 miles on just under a tenners worth of petrol, which I was happy with, and the bike

is happy to bimble at all speeds at around 4k and comes alive from about 7k to the redline

at 11k. Good torque spread and the newest mapping which sees 72bhp. Had to raise the screen

as I was getting it square in the face but on the next position up its loads better.

Performance is very good, superb comfort, and outstanding economy

Better pics of the new GS, done around 500 miles on it so far and loving the motor, a huge leap forward from my Twin Cam.

Today I went out and got a sandwich, packet of crisps and a bottle of pop in Tesco.

then....

I went to McDonalds and there was a massive que out the door so went to the drive thru so I could at least sit in that que rather than stand with the sheep.

then.....

I bought a 52 plate 636

20140626_213318.jpg

What a deal! 90 miles away and he had pics of trailer in ad saying could deliver anywhere for a small fee, so got £250 off asking price and delivery thrown in  :D Tow car was a V8 RangeRover  :o 14mpg

Point to note the headlight tinted cover things have been removed already as not to my taste.

That was my entire day from morning to midnight when I got back with bike, food was Tesco 10:00, McDonalds 19:30 while awaiting seller to get back home. A seagull landed on bonnet of car while I ate it!!!

As I mentioned before about my gate, I checked the dimensions of the 636 before going to see it. Lucky I did!!!! You can imagine how much tighter it felt when I put it in there last night just after midnight! Here are some snaps from today (well yesterday now)

And let her cool off

20140628_012119.jpg

After sorting insurance (very good price in end), I drove to my local DVA office and bought 6 months VED and went home, took the Velcro bits off lights for the tinted covers, took off the really nice but illegal number plate and put on the one I was given described as the 'MOT plate' (number plates here are regularly targeted on cars, so sod it). Then I hit the road (stopping 3 miles later to fill tank before stretching her legs). Bike was epic! The exhaust sounds   . I made it approx 200 meters before hitting a lovely tar & chipping road and encountered approx 15 different roads at varying stages from just laid to work out in thin strips acting like multiple tram lines on road..   The bike has 2 new tyres on it too which were not scrubbed in so a lively first ride indeed. Couldn't find my mounts for the GoPro after moving, searched high and low . One annoying incident was a cager in a baige Toyota estate deciding in a village that the 30mph limit was no longer good enough for him so started to pass me about 20 meters from the NSL sign......  I was fairly unimpressed as I had to wait for the absolute piece of crap to finish passing me so that I could safely accelerate....

All in all a nice first ride and it's been a while since I had sports bike as such, since the GSXR1000. It's so light it feel like a 125 compared to the Z1000SX and a much better power to weight ratio, coupled with the extra 3 or 4000 RPM available, good package and carbs not injection wizardry. I am much happier with this and will happily tour on it. I may put a rack on back for my old top box or just try a tail pack (no had one before), some soft panniers and my pop up tent strapped over back seat

Here's my little Yamaha YBR125 that I collected today. Just need to get some miles done and gain some experience then get booked in for my DAS course so I can tear up the L's while looking for a bigger bike  . Of course I took the long way home & took in one of my cycling routes before stopping at the top of our hill and looking back over Langsett Resevoir for a quick picture, it was only at that point I realised I'd been out for over 2 hours and still had my picnic in the box & it was almost time to pick the boys up from school

My Brtyon50 pushbike GPS/Satnav fits a treat, gives me all the information I'll ever need.

Right, bike is outside all ready for our little trip to London. Piccadilly circus, big ben, the eye, tower bridge, shard/gherkin & some super car spotting round kensington/hyde park to finish.  :D Cross your fingers we dont get too wet!

We'll I've had a busy weekend riding. Friday night me, my mate Chris and brother Tom went to London for a late night ride. The plan was, leave nice and late, enjoy London with quiet(ish) roads and come home early hours of the morning. It all went a bit Pete Tong though. We left earlier than we originally planed, rain was predicted for later in the evening so I thought if we left a bit earlier we'd get more done before it arrived, instead of leaving at 10ish we left 8ish.

We had a nice steady ride down, everything was going ok until we hit Camden. My brothers bike has been going flat recently, regulator has been checked, battery replaced so thursday he replaced the stator. Thought it was fixed but just as we got to Camden and it died! Queue the VERY embarrassing bump start of the worlds loudest bike in the middle of Camden town on a friday night   :D Luckily we got some family in London so we got him back to my uncles and got his battery on charge, meanwhile in 'top gear' style me and Chris cracked on without him.

By this point it was spitting slightly, so we decided to go for a ride into the city then, if it was still a bit naff go back and ride home with my brother. So we rode straight down towards the river, now I dont know what was going on, but traffic was mental! I didnt expect it to be dead by any means but it was really crazy, I dont know if there were events on, seemed to be lots of guys and girls in suits and prom dresses. At this point you'd expect me to have the upper hand on my little 500 vs my mate on his Fireblade filtering but he was a courier in London for a while. It's very dog eat dog, you have to make room for yourself and get the elbows out to make progress, was certainly a challenge for sure.

Eventually we made it to the eye, had a rest then returned to collect my brother. Lucky his bike started after a charge, brisk ride back, we got the majority of the rain just before home but it wasnt too bad. My first experience riding in the wet, I was nervous at first but soon relaxed.

Got up early this morning and went for a slightly less busy ride, heard about a bike cafe south of Oxford so went to find it with Chris again. About 1h and 30min of nice quiet country roads, really enjoyed it. I did managed to find a road being covered with that awful chippings, horrible to ride on, feet out and 20mph for a good mile or two, felt like forever. We did make it there in one piece, had a chat with one of the blokes there, they reckon they get 700 bikes on their monday night 'bike night'! Might be worth a trip. We had a quick bite to eat then come home, avoided the newly resurfaced road but took a bit longer.

When we got back I had a chat with my mate, there were points when I could have done with a little more power, not to keep up with him just getting up to speed a little quicker. At this point he suggested I took his fireblade out, I'm not a tit and can control myself so bit his hand off  :D Went down the bypass and back again, first of all the riding position is bloody awful, I mean I know I dont have the physique for a sports bike but it was the top of my back that was aching. Went through town, it's very focused, brakes, throttle etc is all very sharp and a little snatchy, but I guess that could be partly down to it being new to me. Anyway, went down the main road, I didnt open the throttle more than half way at the most but oh my good god, arse was pushed back against the rear seat cover, hung on for dear life it was mental. Big grin and loved it but I said I'll have another go when I've been riding for a while and can enjoy it a little more.   :sun:

New addition to the stable. Bought this 3 months ago, and I'm loving it. A very different riding experience to the Aprilia. I've hankered after a Cali for 35 years, so I got one. 1996, 55,000 miles, and still goes well.

Lad has joined the fold - not the sexiest of bikes, but affordable & fairly drop resistant.

He's as pleased as punch, though a little upset with me as I slightly chaved it when he wasn't looking...

Took the Aprilia out recently only to land on a road with loose chippings an inch thick in places which made it impossible to ride on (the council do the same stretch every few years between Dursley and Wotton and put down a ridiculous amount of gravel on this stretch).  Had to abandon the route, turn round and take a detour as there'd have been little chance of remaining in the saddle if I'd had to brake for anything.  About time the government outlawed this archaic, wasteful and downright dangerous form of surface dressing which is a disgusting false economy.  There is currently a petition doing the rounds to raise enough signatures to form a white paper for discussion in the commons but I believe not enough signatuires as yet.  If I find it I'll post the link.

Enough moaning, here's my few rides:

This one's now been fitted with GPR Zorsts, and the sound is pretty epic!  Not so loud as to be objectionable, but you'd know it was a big thumping single:

Not as loud or lairy as the  Aprilia by a long way though.  A few more snaps of the RSVR...rare Colin Edwards model:

Had a bit of time today, so managed to move two bikes from the "new woodstore" into the workshop

Just need to get some time in there to get them back together.

My R1150GSA SE. Been riding bikes since I was 21. Gave then up when my son was born but that lasted a couple of years, now he rides pillion with me most places (he's 10)

My wife passed her big bike licence earlier this year (I think she thought if you can't beat them join them....) and I bought her a Fazer 600 as her first big bike.

3b4f62aa6f16cdbc3b401ec057fa93bd.jpg

My daughter has discovered she can touch the pillion pegs this year so will probably start taking her on short runs next year. (She's 5).

I'm a member of UKGSER and don't mind riding by myself or with small groups. Can't be doing with big groups!

Tom

Uh oh. Mrs chelski "You only want a small bike you said, a 500 will be plenty big enough you said, I don't want to go very fast you said"

Well I never said how quickly I wanted to get to the not very fast speed  :D

Did someone say pictures????? No?

To be fair the suspension was cheap to sort £200 ish and if you buy the later fuel injected model they are ok on juice

Finally found a decent pic

:D Ok ok, the bike itself... here she is after I filled up at the first petrol station I could find.

2014-09-17122850_zps18260038.jpg

Standard collect a bike with no fuel in, the gauge has 5 bars and the last one was flashing so I wasnt sure how far I'd get. Lucky after gingerly riding for about 15 miles I got to this station. It has a 17 litre tank but only took 14 so could have gone a fair bit further I think.

Firstly the riding position. I think it's dubbed the 'sit up and beg' kinda position, a small amount of lean but fairly upright, the motor is quite forwards in the frame so the pegs arnt too high. I'm just over 6ft and my legs arnt squashed up at all. Bars are a nice hight, and all the usual bits and bobs are there, mirrors looks nice and work fairly well. Also because of the fairly upright position you get a decent view in traffic. While it's got a decent size engine it doesnt feel as heavy as I expect, even moving it about the garden it's not too heavy. I done the 2 and a half hour ride home in one hit, while my arse was a aching a bit I ddint get any cramp or discomfort in my legs or anywhere else.

The dash is one of my highlights, yes some like old skool analogue dials but these are siiiiick. S****y and smart but still nice and clear, to the left theres a speedo and temp gauge, the right 2 trips, the odo, clock and the fuel gauge then across the middle a tacho. Theres also some warning lights, ABS light is a odd one, comes on until 6mph then goes off. There's a choice of 3 brightnesses for the backlight, 1 is plenty, easy to see in the day and night, 2 and 3 would annoy me at night I think. Plus I get a nice sweep on start up/shut down!

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y255/matt1chelski/Motorbikes/th_2014-09-19121325_zpsee054693.mp4

The clutch and box are lovely and smooth, clutch is hydraulic which is new to me, takes some effort to make a jerky gear change, just seems to smooth it all out. Adjustable levers too so getting a nice reach is easy. The gearbox is quite close ratio, 6th is a bit longer though so motorway speeds are still quite low rpm. The brakes are nice and positive, not given it too much yet but they inspire confidence, they're linked which I've not noticed yet really, I do tend to brake front and rear together anyway.

The motor is lovely, so smooth and so easy to ride. I had no issues from the start going straight into town traffic, stop start/filtering was no problem from the off. I was pretty steady along the way but once I got the chance on the slip road I opened it up a bit, jesus ******* christ it just took off, front wheel trying to point to the sun and my fat arse getting pushed back against the pillion seat. It's such a linear powerband, literally you can leave it in 6th down to about 35mph and pull away with no flat spots anywhere, 3k all the way to the 10k red line. I've yet to really give it much stick though, building up steadily, with the torque though it's so easy to ride.

Handling is good from what I've experienced so far, again not pushed it too much but it feels like it drops into corners easily, I found on the sports bikes I've ridden they need to be forced into corners sometimes while this doesnt. Looks are quite a personal thing, I've already had a few comments at work, someone said the front looks like a gimp mask which I can see  :D The two bits that do it for me are the clocks and the single sided swing arm with the funky wheels. Also for a standard bike it makes a nice noise, low revs and open it up it sounds really raspy, I'll try and get a video with the GoPro at some point. Few more snaps;

2014-09-19144150_zps9c0e3229.jpg

Another thing I noticed this afternoon, originally it didnt feel that big to sit on, I'm a fat **** anyway so didnt expect it to really but when I swapped with my brother for a (very) short while his GSXR felt like a tonka toy in comparison. They're obviously different classes of bike but still it made my notice a little how chunky the CB is.

Bits I think could be improved! As I said the box is quite close ratio and the motor has so much torque it's easy to forget what gear you're in. I try and count in my head but I still bloody forget, trying to put it in 7th or -1  :D. Also, when I learnt I was using 2nd for turning into junctions etc, same on the CB500 but this I find 1st is long enough to do it smoothly? Dunno what others use or if it's just down to different bikes. The exhaust is a bit bulky, looks a bit ott really, not awful but nothing to look at. The worst bit is the rear fender or whatever you want to call it, talk about ruin the lines. It just sticks out way too far and looks cheap.

None of that stuff is major or expensive to sort though. Over time I have a small list of bits I'd like to change, tail tidy, levers & exhaust is more or less the run down. No rush though, happy with it as it is at the moment.

Also, slightly different note, one of the guys at work (with the white R6 above) was saying how the old bag with the horrid DN01 was saying I was stupid for getting a thou after 3 months riding and no wonder bikers die. What a pathetic thing to say. Granted I've had it 2 days but in that time I've been out and about on it a fair amount and not once have a shat myself, slowly building up confidence and taking things steady is the aim of the game for me. I could kill myself on the 500 if I was a total ****. My idea of fun is getting to the other end in on bit firstly, enjoying myself secondly, not the other way round, the engine size isnt going to change that.

Overall I'm chuffed with it, for what I want it's perfect. I dont want to do 1xx mph, I just want something nice and quick up to legal speeds with lots of midrange power that is nimble enough I can chuck about town.   :sun: Sorry for the long ass post!   :p

Supermoto you say  :)

The only bike I ever loved and truly hated, blew up every other week, oil changes measured in hours, forward facing kick start so the starting procedure was fun, but it went, handled and wheelied like nothing else I'd owned

It's absolutely the right bike for me now.
Best thing about it?
It's got the DCT gearbox. I love it.  :)

2002 Triumph Daytona 955i. Took two years to rebuild from ground up, mod list a full page long. Got it running this Friday and clocked 150km to the gauge. This bad boy`s got some serious grunt!

Good write up, it always catches you out how long it really takes when out on the bike..

The toll road is "interesting" I did it a couple of years ago, in torrential rain.

I always loved the Katana, and think that is why I fell for the Xtra.

When I am on the road and not in my Skoda I am on a Victory Judge. The big American V twin is well suited for touring around Australia. Here's one from a fair way down under, Cradle Mountain in Tasmania, my mate rides a Harley Road King.

Nice work with the pictures Fubs!

Not got any on my phone of the 125 i started off on. Just imagine a 2005 CG125 in almost better than new condition n you wont go far wrong, we've all seen one of those before haha.

Next up was the 2001 Suzuki SV650s. Restricted to 33bhp at first but ridden for a year or so after the restriction ended. Extras, Beowulf end can, double bubble screen, hugger and the lower fairing isnt standard either.

Currently a 2002 Honda VFR 800 VTEC. Extras, screen, hugger, Garmin Zumo 390, Oxford heated grips, immobiliser (no, i didnt put that bloody horrible thing on, never again!), 8 spoke read wheel off a 1991 VFR750 and powdercoated in grey, gear indicator, Givi v35 panniers which all comes off in 10 minutes and gets filled in by 2 little infills. Looks miles better with those in.

I think thats about all, for now

Well, after a foreigner decided to plow into me whilst on the M4, I'm now on a temporarly loaner Bandit 1250. Quite a fun bike. I was dreading the inline 4 as the Hornet loaner I had last time was a real pain and changed to a nice VFR800 after it broke down 3 times on the first day... However, doubling the size means there's some nice usable torque low down making it a lot more flexible than the 600 inline 4.

Left ankle and foot were a bit sore, pretty much recovered now. I was very lucky to keep the bike upright as he turned into my lane otherwise I probably wouldn't be posting here today... Certainly makes you think carefully. Fortunately, the Bandit has allowed me to get straight back to biking and not lose confidence...

My SV650 is in for repairs - broke off the left foot peg as he crushed my left leg / ankle.

Glad to hear you're mending well, Xav

Just goes to show how vulnerable you are on a bike, and it doesn't matter how safe you ride there are always idiots out there you can't account for :(

Its got its advantages and disadvantages.

The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages for me atleast.

But anyway, back on topic (:

That's why at 60 years of age, and still alive (but scarred) after a lifetime of biking, I finally decided to hang up my helmet.

Problem is, biking is in my blood.  Now 63, I feel the urge to ride again.  Damn you, Brisky Bikers!

Certainly helps put things into prospective at times like that. Great effort being straight back in the saddle!
