Fabia Mk2 vRS 1.4TSI Replacement Engines Replaced. How Many.?

Recommended Posts

or are they just useless as a matter of course.?

I'd like to think they have spoken to Skoda tech before ordering the parts, when they call me to arrange booking the car in I'm going to ask who they spoke to regarding part to order after your info that the breather mod was for the older CAVE engine code and not the newer CTHE that I have

Well mine is booked in tomorrow for a problem with the gear selecting, apparently it's supposed to be the gear selector that needs replacing as its knocking from P to R and N to D but perfectly smooth from R to N.

Thought id take the vrs on the motorway for about 8-10 miles this evening as its done just under 500 miles with the new CTHE to stop on the slip road traffic lights to see some sort of smoke coming out of the bonnet and the side, popped the bonnet to find a pink fluid on what I believe to be the gearbox and the coolant bottle well below the minimum mark. Not impressed as this wasn't a problem before the engine was swapped, oil temps was no more than 94c (I hit 75mph max).

Pink liquid and cooler bottle emptying suggests a hose loose and coolant leaking,

easy enough to happen after an engine swap and not being checked again,

then a second engine replacement can lead to gearbox selection issues.

Just sloppy work sometimes.

Hopefully all easily sorted out once they put someone competent onto the job.

Car booked in for July 1st to have oil jets, breather fix done, hopefully it won't be too much trouble for them.......Not holding out too much hope though, I had a call from Skoda CS on the 12th saying the dealer would be contacting me that day to make booking arrangements, I had to call them this morning to book it in, useless but all noted with Skoda CS :-)

As long as Skoda UK are Guaranteeing this attempt to resolve the issue, the Dealer doing the work obviously has to but

Skoda UK will need to extend the Warranty on the Engine since they are not replacing it again.

In case anyone has missed the point here.  Can you confirm please?

This is a Late 2012 vRS Mk2 Fabia with the Revised engine which is a CTHE,

but it was an Oil Burner and a new CTHE engine was required and has been fitted.

?

How many miles & how long from new with the first engine before it was replaced,

& how many miles has the 'NEW' Replacement Engine Covered before Skoda are being required to have remedial work done?

thanks.

This is a September 2012 registered car, originally had a CTHE engine.

This was replaced 6759 miles on August 12th 2013 and is now using lots of oil again, currently on 22569 total miles, so 15810 on the "new" engine so far

I'm pleased to read that these oil jets seem to resolve the problem, I really hope they do as I love the car other than pouring oil in it all the time!

Day 1 update - Just rang the garage to see how it went today and was told it's still in bits because they needed to order another part and a special tool

I've never worked in a garage but, if I was a service manager and we had to do a job we hadn't done before, I'd be calling around, looking for as much information as possible so I was prepared when the vehicle came in. Are they taking the pee? Surely they should have known or found out what they would need for the job before it came in?

I'm hoping the parts arrive early tomorrow morning or I'm going to be livid as I'll have to cancel lessons.......

'Special tool',

Technical term for getting in a Specialist Tool that knows what they are doing because the tools already there are a Spanner short of a tool box.

I queried whether or not they would have known they needed this part and tool beforehand and was met with a prompt, blunt, no! I smell BS but Skoda (who have been made aware of this garages incompetence right from the off and have been excellent again throughout) will be made aware, I record all my calls so I can always provide evidence of the conversations :-)

Damn.

I forgot to ask you to take a picture of your Breather Pipe & Valve before you put the car in, **post #73**

so that we can compare with what they ordered in to update and modify on a CTHE car.  (ask them for the part no. please.)

Be sure to ask if there is also a ECU Software update being done.

(as there was with the Australian members CTHE)

No car today, had a call this morning saying the technician wasn't happy to re-use the stretch bolts and they never had any in stock, can't get any until toorrow, wtf! So bad that nobody looked into this job before starting the job and getting stuff in stock.

Skoda CS I am using is on holiday until Monday, I want to wait for her return as she's been great, rather than explain it all to somebody else.

So hopefully car back tomorrow, will be biting my tongue a lot I think......

GEORGE - I'll ask about ECU update for sure and will try to get the part number if I can bite my tongue long enough, it will mean talking to the useless person which might push me over the edge,,,,,

Just collected the car, they wouldn't give part numbers "nobody does"

I wasn't given any paperwork "because it's warranty it only goes on the Skoda system, nothing for the customer to take away

I just walked away, not worth the hassle, will take it up with Skoda CS next week when they call me

Just dipped on the flat when I got home at 87 degrees and it's at the top of the flat area (just above the hatched area), will dip in a few hours time when it's settled down and compare

EDIT - Only 2 miles were covered while they had it, is that ok, I thought it would have been a bit more of a test drive after work completed?

No it is not OK.

Because they should have Road Tested it properly,

& from the New Oil going in it would have required at least 5 miles to get up to operating temperature.

So ask Skoda UK what was done and for your own records what is on the Computer as Charged by the garage.

They can Email you the Invoice, Parts & Labour time.

Was the Oil just Reused, and the Filter Left.?

(recently Replaced for the Oil Consumption Test.)

So what was done,

?

'New Oil Spray Jets',   did it get a Software Update, which was why it should be properly Road Tested after

the work, * A Dynamic Test'* then checked on the VAS.

?

Were New Breather Pipe or Breather Valve Required, or did your car already have the latest ones fitted?

Have fun with it now,

Chill, and be sure to ask the Skoda UK CS Services Manager if the Warranty on the Engine is being Extended beyond the cars

Manufacturers Warranty.

I didn't think 2 miles was much of a test! I'm keeping notes and photos of mileage etc for when I speak to Skoda CS, this forum taught me that!

I'll ask Skoda CS for the information on record and if I can have a copy for myself, I'm sure they won't mind doing that

Oil filter wasn't changed for consumption test and hasn't been changed now either, oil looks clean but it's not done many miles from what was in there before so it could just be topped up (more than likely)

Hopefully Skoda CS will be able to shed light on what was done, the garage aren't likely to tell me anything, I'm not their friend......haha

I just checked cold/flat and it's touching the orange bit where it joins the metal, so about 5mm higher than the warm dip, very difficult to tell with clean oil but I'll notice easily if it does drop.

I really hope this fixes the problem this time, I'll be asking for at least a 2 year extension on the engine because it took 18 months to show signs of higher than normal oil on the new engine since fitting, I'm also going to ask for a free service for loss of earnings, I had to cancel 4 hours of automatic lessons because they had the car for 2.5 days.

I wouldn't be pushing for this extra if they had at least rang another garage that had done the job before for advice. I'm sure another garage would have told them the tools required and to have spare stretch bolts in stock just in case. Maybe I'm being unreasonable but if I were in their position, with a customer coming in with knowledge of the job (from here, only a little I know but I told them I could probably find out some more info if necessary) and I told them it was a well known job and others have had it done so why not ring around.

I'll keep you posted after I've spoken to Skoda CS next week

The Sump was off the car.

There was no oil in the Car, this Oil Jet Replacement should have had new oil going in under the Warranty Work,

and that should mean there is a New Oil Filter in.

Be sure you get this information from Skoda UK, have the garage charged for 3.6 Litres of Oil & a Filter.

They tell you you have to service the car by the schedule, so even if New Oil & Filter is in Yesterday,

if the Cars Service Schedule is in 500 miles time, 4 weeks say, they say you have to have the Oil & Filter Service done.

It is just all a Inconsistency,

But really do ask about the Breather Update and a Software Update, that is if there is one.

I know of 2 Members with cars built the same time as yours with Oil Issues,

they were told there is no Software Update,

the Member in Australia was told his car had one.

Fingers Crossed and its a car with a history at least.

Just spoken to Skoda CS after missing their call yesterday

They are going to ask the dealer for numbers of parts and what was carried out during the job, they can't see why they wouldn't give me the info last week when I collected the car

They are going to speak to the dealer regarding a goodwill gesture for loss of earnings (had the car 2 and a half days when they told me it would only be half a day)

Also offered a 1 year warranty extension and that any problems after that would be taken into consideration because of previous problems

I'm happy with the service Skoda CS have provided me both times I have needed them

I now look forward to trouble free motoring.......fingers crossed eh!

They are waiting to hear back from the dealer this week as they have to file a claim for the warranty work. I have it all on recorder phone call too

Just a quick update, 235 miles covered and can't see any movement in oil level yet, would've have been easily noticeable by now before the work was carried out.

EDIT - I'm meant to be getting part numbers etc in the post soon, will post back when I get them
