Best place for a remap

Recommended Posts

Another person in the same boat, so was considering going back to Dirty Torque as they mapped my upgraded turbo. They now have a rolling road too..... although my just settle with Unit18 as I'll need a new clutch/dmf and LSD putting in before the map.

That sounds like an expensive little trip Jars ... Remap, lsd and a new clutch/fw.

I need to make a meme picture for the 'Skoda related meme' thread. Something along the lines of: "FABOKA. Y U NO REMAP MY CAR!?"

Haha

The other annoying factor included in this conundrum is the jump in costs too. :(

May I ask where you're going for your clutch and flywheel?

I have spoken to a local mapping company that were helpful and friendly, however the chap basically told me that he wouldn't be happy mapping my car with the standard clutch, he said he didn't want to waste my time and money as he wouldn't be able to 'finish the map to my standards', which is fair enough I suppose.

So now I am on the hunt for an updated clutch, ideally an updated DMF but not essential. I had a look on EBay, saw 'Techniclutch', thought "ooh they seem cheap, what's the catch". Then I read some reviews of their services. Diabolical in a word.

Darkside as usual want ridiculous prices, so they're out the window.

Sachs perhaps? I also read about the CG Motorsport clutches, they sound like a good option.

There is a bloke on Facebook 'Max Torque' I think his page is named, I'll have a more thorough search when I get home however he sold updated clutches and fly wheels.

I have spoke to axman too but he only has a stage 1 clutch and another setup off a gtb2260, with tiny mileage as it started to slip, I'd rather have a clutch that can take some hammering than one that has been slipping already. Although saying that the map may have been silly and the clutch could be fine for my modest 220hp target.

Any suggestions/recommendations of places to check out?

Also does anyone have any rough idea what Torque will be produced from a gtb1756 running roughly 220ponies?

My first thought was Mardigras Motorsport for a Helix Organic Clutch etc etc but xman's uprated clutch and dmf from a VW Transporter has had some decent reviews from people who seem to know their stuff. Much cheaper than my original thought too.

I'm currently running ~200 on a std clutch and dmf for the last 10k or so with no problems, although the turbo has more life to give when the rest is purchased and plumbed in.

I assume Xman has to order those in then does he? I didn't realise a clutch from a transporter would fit. What price are they, and what torque are you proven up to?

Faboka said he would adjust accordingly whilst I was on the standard clutch. My idea was that I'd wait until it died, then uprate and have the map tweaked. But that plan has flown out of the window :(

I can't remember the ins and outs and too busy to go searching for you, (normally I would, sorry mate) but iirc it was around £500 for clutch and dmf and was modded to fit a Fabia. Check trough the parts for sale section and you will see :)

That Xman clutch was my old one. Only slipped a tiny bit, until it got hot. Then it slipped more. My car was running around 260bhp on a 2260, and about 360ftlbs. Clutch was bedded in properly too. I believe it was the first of his 'stage 1' clutches to try this setup. When it came off, there wasn't a mark on it.

I'd recommend the stage 2 one that he does. It will more than take what you can throw at it. To be honest, the stage 1 is probably more than sufficient for what you're planning...

I have the uprated DMF and clutch from xman, the DMF is from the later 2.0tdi and the clutch is a reconditioned transporter, it has kevlar clutch plate and xman says it's good for 400 lbs torque which should handle all the GTB1756vk can give.

Not 100% sure but I think xman said the DMF is modified to accept the transporter clutch.

No worries I have done some reading and research, thanks for replying nontheless.

Bit off topic but my fabia has a faboka remap maybe it's worth slightly more now lol.

Thanks for that ... ¬_¬ turning a slight shade of envy green

I have been in touch. I'm planning on having it mapped to whatever it will give before it starts to slip, then knock a slight chunk off to preserve it. That was Xman's suggestion anyway. I hope you took good care of it... ;)

I asked Xman about that clutch setup and he said he no longer sells them. Or not currently anyway.

Instead I have bought the clutch Alex had fitted in his car, that his big blower started to slip. At a very reasonable price.

If it does the same for me I'll cry. Then buy a much more expensive clutch setup. Then cry some more.

Got a mapper lined up now, a mechanic friend is going to negotiate mates rates too all being well.

They're responsible for the country's fastest VW, which is a nice accolade. ADE Tuning, I spoke to him and asked what experience he has of Pd engines, "well over 200" was the reply. Promising. And has mapped dozens of GtB powered PD engines so that is also promising. Custom tuning seems to be their main specialisation.

Apparently he is very thorough to the extreme and goes through the final map with a fine tooth comb to ensure both he and the customer is happy.

I need to fit the turbo and the updated clutch though first!

Shark are realy good I thought the car would strugle to put the power down but no issues, their map is so smooth smoke wise there is no difference. Its scary how quickly the car picks up now. The STS system is worth having as well as it gives you options.

Clutch wise im runniing the CG Motorsport dual friction clutch with a SMF its an excelent choice of clutch. It should give 40% increase on torque load compared to OEM clutch so thats about 430lb of torque. Feel wise its slightly heavier and there is some slight judder when setting off slowly but on fast get aways it launches like a missile!

Since Faboka has stepped down from the stage, putting a spanner in the works for my plan to get the mapping done, I am now left in a slight pickle. A pickle with a few options. A good few options in fact. My car will soon have a Gtb1756 fitted along with a decat downpipe. Already fitted is a nice thick ths fmic with a Darkside hard pipe kit.

My mapper shortlist so far is as follows:

##!!##h

Awesome GTi

Narco

Diesel powered

Darkside isn't an option as I am fitting parts from several different companies. Not that it particularly bothers me as I find their prices are quite steep.

My main parameters for mappers are: experience with the pd130 engine, experience with tuned pd130 engines, reasonably priced and ideally in the North West of England. A dyno is not essential.

Has anyone anything else to add / suggestions?

I was 100% decided for Faboka to remap the car, but obviously that is no longer possible. So I am in the process of reading up on various other companies. Searching for good and bad feedback from as many as possible!

I contacted Awesome also, before i used John. Awesome only flash a pre made map. This is not really what you want, you want a custom map which awesome dont do... or so they told me.

Thanks for the reply, I am currently in negotiation with 'diesel powered' who by the sounds of it, use a very similar method to Faboka, all road logs, and only arrange to use a dyno if you want a print out for figures. They also provide a 'we come to you' service which could prove to be very convenient.

I have yet to fit the uprated clutch yet however. Once everything is sorted I'll have to pop across to Chorley to compare!
