Superb 1.9TDI Greenline - MtlLine edition...

Recommended Posts

Anyway, it is already time to present also my ''little'' project. This is my third Skoda and it was not even planned to be bought, since I was satisfied with Octavia. But it was such a good opportunity that I could not miss it.

MY2011, standard Greenline equipment + light alloy wheels and (sadly) aftermarket rear parking sensors, car alarm and Webasto with remote controll  .

When it came to me, it looked a little angry :D :

wp20141101012.jpg

And than the project started. The following was activated, so it became a little bit more generous with features:

  • cornering lights
  • rain sensor
  • rain closing
  • footwell lights
  • XDS
  • TPMS system
  • right mirror dip with reverse gear
  • DRL off with turn signal active
  • cruise control speed display

Immediately it got mud flaps. Not really positive for looks, but they are quite practical, though not so much as for example mud flaps for Octavia 2, since they are smaller.

And of course: Superb has to have an umbrella:

wp20141103005.jpg

I hate tire kits, so it was replaced by full spare tire (tire is from Passat, the rest from Octavia 2 FL).

Before:

wp20141102008.jpg

After:
wp20141102038.jpg

Greenline went away...

wp20141028008.jpg

wp20141102062.jpg

And then winter came and with it also winter tires (new set from Seat Leon 3  ). Not bad looking... :nerd:

wp20141105059.jpg

skoda-superb.jpg

Gear knob was a little lose, which really stepped on my nerves, so it had to be fixed.

rocka.jpg

BT receiver to AUX-IN was installed (of course everything was hidden under the dash), so I could enjoy music from my phone. I have pictures, but no time for the description of installation :dull: .

bt-vmesnik.jpg

Rear chrome part on rear doors was polished, though it still is not as new :envy: : This is picture before the ''action'' :).

wp20141028012.jpg

Rubber case for key.  Cost 2 EUR, I thought it will be ok for a month until I get the quality one. It is still as new after 5 months... :o

New years ''wine surprise'' :@ .

Pure luck that the car had a layer of dirt all over it and that I saw this immediately in the morning and I cleaned all away. Paint was not damaged. B)

vino.jpg

Finally Santa Clause came and I will not be ashamed any more by standard exhaust pipes...

wp20150117033.jpg

prej-potem-custom.jpg

And since the exhaust pipes were changed it came time for the proper ''badges'' :

Sorry, this R was just a donor for the holder of proper badge :giggle: :

Summer came, so roof bars are necessary. Sadly no used roof bars can be bought (I was looking for them for almost 4 months), so finally decided to go for new ones... Directly from Germany.

wp20150412024-custom.jpg

Winter went away, so it was time for thorough spring cleaning to wash off all that salt.

ciscenje.jpg

And while changing tires, why not do clean also some other parts:

disk.jpg

disk1.jpg

Opportunity to buy VW RNS310 for a good price came along and I could not say no  :

navi.jpg

After GPS antena and plastic part around navigation were delivered the installation took place. And the result:

wp20150525042.jpg

After few hours of copying data to SD card this was the result (besides 25 GB of space for music  ):
wp20150525043.jpg

Sadly BT received had to go, since RNS310 has AUX IN connector in the front of the radio. And cable waving around the radio is a no go for me.

Not really colour coordinated by night, but I got used to it:
wp20150521026.jpg

And yellow interior lighting really sucks, so why not go LED   . Tadaaaaa...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVfkyITIViQ

After RNS310 retrofit, I said to myself: ''This is it, finished, no more tweaks and retrofits, enough''. Yea right, for one week :D . More updates soon to follow.

XDS is electronic diff lock. Not really as effective as mechanical, but it works. Take a look at this: http://en.volkswagen.com/en/innovation-and-technology/technical-glossary/elektronische_differenzialsperrexds.html

Do you need explanation for other three or you would just like to know how to enable them?

They can be enabled with VCDS software. You can find members with VCDS near you if you follow this link: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?msa=0&mid=zQlwUpVpfeKA.kRFfm1Y0IXQ0

I stumbled across Superb Elegance that was involved in an accident and was sold for parts. Perfect opportunity to upgrade my ''poor'' entry level equipped Greenline.

Boot covers got a new home :):

desni-pokrov-custom.jpg

levi-pokrov-custom.jpg

Sunshade protection together with boot shelf was retrofitted:
zadnjapolica-custom.jpg

I got hold of five chrome trims (all four doors and trunk, sadly the doner car was damaged in the front so no front bumper trim :(). But they are still under work :).

I have managed to clean them (before/after) so they are shiny as new:
poliranjekromletvice-cus.jpg

But the bigger problem is removing the glue on the back side.

odstranjevanje-lepila-cu.jpg

This is really pain in the ass, but I expect that next week everything should be cleaned and I will be able to fit the chrome trims on the car  .

I took also 4 spoke MFD steering wheel, but currently this is on hold, since I would have to buy also steering wheel electronics that supports MFD and this would be additional 100+ EUR. Maybe in the future, for now it will stay as it is.

You've done a fantastic job, cleaning that chrome work, well done. What did you use to polish and how did you do it, as there are a number of members that have tried without success?

Those chrome trims are trims on the lower part of the car. I used some chrome cleaning liquid from Pearl.

But do not mistake this with rear windows chrome trims, which are really problematic (you have a picture of them at the start of this thread). They cannot be 100% cleaned, because the major degradation is done under the upper part of the lacquer. I have managed to improve them for 50%. From some angles they look completely ok, but from others they look really bad. I used very mild polish paste and after that I cleaned them with liquid from Pearl for chrome parts.
The only solution that would completely remove those ugly degradation marks on those trims would be to replace them. And this should be done under warranty, because it is clearly seen that the problematic are only rear two trims, while the rest is ok. So the fault is on the material. But in Slovenia Skoda does not replace them under warranty.

Thanks for the update. It has to be poor manufacturing that causes moisture to get under the lacquer, so I don't see how Skoda can deny responsibility.

Today was a busy day. Finally got a day of free time and it was time to cover lower part of rear bumper with Plastidip.

Start:

wp20150718011.jpg

Finish:

wp20150718126.jpg

Perfect...

And a picture of the work in the middle :nerd: :

wp20150718105.jpg

Since I had the rear bumper down (well, this was also one reason why I took it down), I removed air rust (flugrost) from the bumper. Procedure is as follows:
- remove air rust with auto-clay (I use Bilthamber)

- polish the surface with a very mild paint polish

- put on Auto-balm (I use Bilthamber)

- at the end I put on also additional protection from Pearl

So, at the start it looked like this (makro photo):

wp20150718098.jpg

At the end it was completely white without any rusted dots  . Jup, we have a mirror  :

Finally I had time to mount rear chrome trim from Elegance model (genuine Skoda part of course):

Though, I am not yet sure if I like it or not... :wait::notme:

Side trims will follow when I find some time and front when I find chrome front trim. :D

I am not really a fan od ungenuine stuff, especially some "strange and cheap looking LED" - this is my personal view on those LEDs. But I will go for LED license plate when I get some time and find a quality ones.

mtl, the car is looking great, you've made some nice mods. My opinion, the LED lights would be fine, and they would fit in with what you've done, with the upgraded stereo unit, boot carpet and chrome trims, it would still look like a Superb, but one with a better spec. Those lights are from the L&K model, so to me they aren't strange or cheap looking. If they were the chrome cluster Lexus style LED lights that get fitted to the racer Corsas and Fiestas, that would be a no no.

Hm, my mistake then, I overlooked that they were genuine L&K lights. Strange, it looks like I haven't seen any L&K pFL over here.

Anyhow, they still look a little unnatural for my taste, so I will stick to halogen lights. I think they give a nice, Superb like luminosity in dark  .

I know what you mean regarding Corsas and Fiestas :peek: , that is also why I am quite allergic to such lights :D .

Quite a lot has been done during this time: LED license plate lights, rear DRL lights in Skoda smile shape :) and side chrome thrims were finally fitted.

wp20160906170926pro.jpg

Also after two years in my ownership I have finally managed to polish the whole car so that is is really shiny. And the colour was really dirty, as it can be seen from this photo of clay during cleaning the roof.

plastelin.jpg

The only unexpected cost until now was front right bearing that needed replacement:

menjava-lezaja-skoda-sup.jpg

Lowest consumption achieved:

Despite being only Greenline it can still overtake :):

Finally I have managed to edit and publish a video from 29th of October when I was at auto track day at Raceland. Superb was perfect, I have really enjoyed driving on the racetrack and even though this racetrack is for gokarts, so quite with quite closed corners, the car was great. The only problem were Dunlop SportBlueResponse tires that started to peal off... I really didn't expect that...

I hope that video shows at least part of joy that I had when driving on the racetrack...
