Service Interval Light

Recommended Posts

Hi

Referring to http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/226592-service-interval-reset/#entry2664730 and http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/226592-service-interval-reset/#entry2665794 what has to be done after an oil change if you want the service light to go out but leave the car on QG1 (variable service interval)

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike, welcome to Briskoda.

Both those links seem to show the same thread.

The only way to reset the service computer back to a variable or long life service interval is via dealer software or using VCDS.

Using the instructions in the owners manual for a service light reset defaults the service interval to fixed (10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is reached first).

See here for a list of Briskoda members with VCDS near you who may be willing to help...

@silver1011 Thanks for the quick and useful reply. Great idea to have register of vcds owners. Maybe it would be easier to just switch over to fixed service interval and use the cheaper oil. Links are to two posts in same thread.

Is your vRS petrol?

My mileage is around 10K / year so I prefer fixed as it means the car gets fresh oil at least once a year. As our diesel has a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) I am stuck with the more expensive VW 507.00 specification oil.

I plan on keeping the car until it falls apart, so I'll probably do the 10k servicing along with the better specification oil anyway.  I'm assuming this won't cause any damage (except perhaps to my wallet).
