Retrofitting Maxidot from Golf into Fabia?

Recommended Posts

Curious to see if this is possible and what people think.

As fabia maxidot displays are rather thin on the ground, would it be possible to take one from another car (golf, bora etc.) and retrofit the maxidot either as a complete unit or in part to come together with the fabia VRS I clocks?

Bit of a thinker for you all :)

Im hoping its doable

Why not 6Y0920943S? Or you already have it?

Is that a standard unit or? I don't have maxidot at present.

I'm going to say no, I've thought about it and things usually don't match up like speed and the Rev range. I'm sure that can be adjusted but all the same I don't think it fits.

With u saying it doesn't fit do u mean the golf clock as a whole? What about porting over the maxidot cluster into fabia clocks? I'm going to go out on a limb and say they use the same chipset golf maxi to fabia maxi with identity differences for speed etc.

Yes it will fit but you need to swap the housings and delete the Immo

Delete the immo? U mean the immobiliser? Wouldn't u flash the device and set it up with a new identity that of the fabia?

I'm happy this isn't a definite no!

My real friends wouldn't treat me like this... :P

Sorry, don't mean it in a bad way!

I just don't think it's possible and a lot of people say it is possible, so only one way to find out!

Why don't you just try fitting an OEM part?

Because it's very expensive and rare to find.

An update!

Been scouring the web for more info for quite a while on how to get these installed into a fabia, whether it be either a Bora highline setup, Golf setup or just the original Maxidot cluster.

What i've heard, and what probably everyone else already knows, is there was one person who managed to get one coded in by using Ben at Shark Performance?

I managed to dig out the thread and unless I'm missing something the only problem they had was that the original cluster they purchased was for a CR engine not a PD, once a PD was sourced it seemed relatively easy to create software wizardry and put into the fabia.

Parts seem to be ordered from skodateile.cz

Anyway I'm going to try and compile a list as I find them of information relating to a Maxidot Installation into a PD environment.

The newer style CR maixdot would be great.

IIRC Faboka purchased a Fabia maxidot off ebay and fitted it in his, pretty sure its 90% working?

So he's done a used retrofit?

From what I've read if you can get a brand new one (which always seem to be available at skodateile) you can get it dealer installed within 2-3 hours as they just follow the procedure for replacing a "Faulty" dash cluster and send over the mileage, recode the immo to your keys etc.

One post I saw said that all in it was under £400 parts plus installation by a main dealer! Not too bad! I cant comment on whether there are major differences between the PD Octavia and PD Fabia but hey if they are as similar as I hope maybe this puts a silver lining on the dark clouds that come about when people ask about retrofitting Maxidots :) !
