Yeti coming up to year 4: extended warranty "all component cover" quoted by Skoda online @ £207.25 for 1 year.  Seems very reasonable compared with Car Care plan @£399 (last year). Any drawbacks known?

Component only?.

Labour also?.....I guess not.

They differentiate between specific bits and the whole vehicle, subject to some exclusions of course. I think labour is covered!  From the website:

All component cover is the most comprehensive cover level, paying for the cost of repairing or replacing the factory-fitted mechanical and electrical components of your vehicle that fail during the cover period.

Named component cover pays for the cost of repairing or replacing the factory-fitted mechanical and electrical components of your vehicle listed below that fail during the cover period.

  • Braking system
  • Clutch
  • Drive-line components
  • Electrics
  • Engine
  • Gearbox
  • Heating and cooling system
  • Locking sustem

I hope your correct, my 1.2 yeti was misfiring. Had it transported to my local Skoda dealer. The car is 5yr old fsh has done 35k has had 2 new timing chains dsg gearbox upgrade pack ( due to juddering )

Now diagnostics is saying a cylinder compression slightly low, this MAY BE a crack in the bottom of the piston further strip down required to diagnose, if not more diagnostic work needed ££££

So lets hope the new all parts cover I have really works

I guess that would be the definition of 'not of merchantable quality'!?

Imagine if it was a Toyota....it would make world news.

I typed in 'Skoda warranty online' and a Skoda UK  page came up with the figures £300 @ 4 yrs and £630 @ 5yrs.

But there was also another Skoda UK page that showed up in the search that invited you to put your details in, i.e. reg. no. and mileage and an optional excess...I didn't bother as my warranty  with ("Skoda Approved") Car Care Plan via CSMA  is around £150 annually (up to 5yrs old).  But I have the 1.2 petrol, the bigger engines are dearer.

But we did this one to death a while ago and went round in circles, as I recall. We went to and fro and eventually people lost interest and the topice went away for a time. As is the case with these things.

You'll remember that at the time I made the point that my DSG clutch pack is specifically excluded due it being registered as a component subject to manufacturers modifications....etc etc etc.... you'll remember that....it got very boring.

If it was a Honda or Toyota would you pay that sort of money, or, bother at all?.......I certainly wouldn't.

To me that's the reliability standard European manufacturers should be emulating instead of pushing the tech boundaries looking for a point of difference.

Reliability = boring it seems.

Clutch packs would be a wear n tear item I wouldn't have thought, thus not covered......ie they wear out as opposed to failing.(?)

They're not a wear and tear item when they're an integral component of the DSG and fail after a couple of thousand miles due to an acknowledged inherent defect.  They replaced all the juddering clutch packs under warranty (eventually) but the extended warranty now doesn't cover it specifically because it was highlighted as a manufacturers fault and was excluded....this was what I was told by the dealer - who got it from Skoda UK.

No, NOT a wear and tear item in my book!

Isn't the extended warranty only available when you buy the car new?

As I inferred above....all covered in depth ad infinitum- search the topic (but allow a good forty five minutes to read through in it's entirety).  I don't think anyone is likely to recount the protracted details.

Update on warranty/misfiring/dsg box

1- warranty

I phoned carcare regarding taking out another extended warranty. The reply was- Volkswagen have taken it on board contact them. After a lot of internet wasting my time then phoning and getting a manager involved I finally purchased an all components with no excess warranty for £212 ( lets see if its worth the money )

2-dsg box I was informed by my local Skoda technician that Skoda were replacing the faulty parts as a goodwill gesture ( at 35k I should think they should )

3- misfiring numerous calls to my local dealer (not always returned back to me ) I was informed that the more than likely DIAGNOSED fault ( possible piston split )after using another computer was 4 plugs and 4 HT leads would need replacing ( No 3 HT had been replaced only a month previous )

So the burning questions are, is there a fault here where 4 HT leads + 4 plugs after 35k need changing? Also who should pay for them and the work carried out. I cant remember the last time plugs + leads failed on me. Oh yes I can 1971 on a mk1 ford escort but in fairness it had done 95k.

Watch this space ;-)
