Speed cameras on Amundsen SatNav?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've recently upgraded to an Octavia III 2.0 TDI Elegance from an Octavia I 1.9 TDI.  What a difference, amazing specs, great performance, but slightly disappointing fuel consumption (probably due to all the gadgets).

Anyway, my main query is whether Speed Cameras are displayed on the Amundsen SatNav?  After being done a few times in the past for being marginally over the limit, I got a Talex Lite detector which was great.  I switched to Waze from my TomTom One and it also had speed cameras, but only informing by audio if over the limit. I really don't want to have a wire trailing over the dash to the Talex in the new Octy or the phone on a holder stuck to the window.

The salesman told me the Amundsen displayed speed cameras, but I haven't seen any displays.  So can it display them or do I need to update the satnav?

I certainly haven't seen them on my Amundsen with latest maps. The problem may be that in France it is illegal to use a satnav that shows Speed traps, and they would need to switched off if traveling in France.

Don't believe that would be possible to do at a country level.

Never seen them on my Amundsen with up to date maps, only has the speed limit displayed.

How do you get the speed limits displayed? I've never noticed any settings to do this. I have an up to date map.

Thank you

I'm not sure tbh, they've always just been there so never looked for a setting for it. I will have a look tomorrow if I remember and let you know.

I may be wrong but I think its the display traffic signs option in the navigation set up menu. This is from the user manual:

› In the main navigation menu, press  → map.

■ Day/night: -Selection of map display colour

■ Day - coloured

■ Night - in shades of grey

■ Automatic - changes the map display colour to match the time of day

■ Autozoom - switches on/off the automatic zoom in/out of the map display

while driving » page 53

Show traffic signs - switches on/off the display of traffic signs

■ Select categories for POIs - selects POIs to be displayed in the map from a list

of available POIs (max. 10 POIs) » page 63

■ Show brands for POIs - switches on/off the display company logos at the POIs

■ Show favourites - switches on/off the display of favourites

■ Lane guidance - switches on/off the display of a window with the recommended

lane for complicated intersections » page 66 

After having a look into this.  It costs £19.99 to subscribe to the speed camera database download.  Not too bad if it works on the Amundsen.  But I'm still not convinced by the Amundsen v Waze.  Hmm...

I don't get "show traffic signs" so maybe it's with later models.  Mines 2013

Simple solution buy a sat nav, pay £20 pa to pocketgpsworld, download the cameras to your sat nav from your PC and be done with it.

You can't look at the Amundsen when you're driving anyway, whereas you can plop a sat nav at the bottom of your windscreen out of the way and it can be glanced at easily.

Or even better, pay the sub to GpsPocketWorld and download their CamerAlert app (if you are a Android person). The app provides alert sounds so you don't have to look at any screen. The app can also show your average speed through an average speedtrap although this function can sometimes be flaky if the camera database has not been updated to account for the camera relocations that can often happen during extended roadworks.
