supercharger upgrade

Recommended Posts

& the Golf GT 1.4 TSI Dualchargers were 160 then 170ps.

As well to take what you have to Stage 2 & 220bhp plus since you have a new engine,

unless you already have that.

Supercharger is all done by 3.5k-rpm so there will be no increase in peak horse-power possible. Secondly the gearbox has a limit of 250nm which the factory supercharger can easily bust throughout it's range. So bigger supercharger would mean different gearbox as well.

Whereas above 3.5k-rpm torque is typically under 250nm; tuning and turbo could theoretically bring that flat to 7k-rpm and power would be.... a lot :)

I was referring to you saying they have a 250Nm limit.

Well VW say that is the limit.

It is their safe limit.  (well if they built the boxes all correctly obviously.)

The standard Supercharger does cut out at 3,500 rpm,

but the Turbo when standard comes in at 2,200 rpm, and the DSG copes OK with more power when not standard.

(mostly!)

As it is the 2015 Polo GTI 192ps Manual has 320Nm and the DSG 1.8TSI is limited to 250 Nm,

Both actually have the same performance, which is no better than the 1.4 TSI Twincharger 180ps Minimum / 250 NM

The thing with more power and the DSG and Clutch Packs and software is the weak point is Traction.

Then there are shafts etc that need upgrading.

Even as standard 6.1 0-62 is not a bad pace.

newbie69's Tuner i think.

Why indeed.  Maybe because they can.

Why would someone put a TTRS engine in a Yeti and fit Carbon Panels and Plastic Glass and keep it looking standard,

and then have the enjoyment at the Atom drivers astonished look

or why would anyone put a TT Engine in a new Citigo.

part of Life's rich tapestry and what people do to show what is possible.

Well i am now 3 hours into paying Skoda main dealers prices for diagnostics on a Supercharger issue. (£85 an hour.)

In Limp Mode, blowing a fuse, code staying on for Supercharger Clutch and not clearing.

So they are checking out wiring and it looks like it could be the Supercharger clutch needing replaced.

So be it the water pump or supercharger clutch needing work on or replaced its not going to be cheap.

Corrosion in wiring / connectors / control units is likely to be the cause of the death of Twinchargers before some reach 10 years old.

(no longer my car but its going to need repaired so i await the diagnosis, then what its going to cost.)

EDIT.

So the bill will be £638.

2 hours on diagnostics, 2 1/2 labour to do Supercharger clutch and the 2 belts.

Compromised wiring is one of the most common issues I see, not only on the 1.4TSI but all across the skoda range.

The wiring on some of the Indian built rapids is a disgrace.

I've literally done at least one wiring repair on a 1.4TSI engine a week the past 2 months. Usually G71 map sensor wires in the back of the engine fracturing the wire within the insulation before finally breaking.

Today's job was the secondary map sensor wiring on the lower boost pipe, G31. Previously repaired with heat shrink connectors too big for the wires and subsequently causing and open circuit during certain engine movements.

The waterpump/supercharger swap is not a pleasant task with the engine in place.

Repair completed at the price quoted so i will see if all is well tomorrow,

and the DSG has had the service campaign work done while it was in.
