From Roomster-3 1.9t di to Yeti 2.0 tdi CR SE

Hi All

Today we parted company with our trusty Roomster-3 after 5 years of hassle free motoring. But with 95,000 miles on the clock we decided that the time had come to trade it in and chose a 63 plate Yeti 2.0 tdi CR SE as a replacement.

Wow what a difference. The Roomster was a 2007 model and a very usable car for our family.  We used it to transport furniture, d-i-y materials, our dog and our grandchildren and it did everything that we wanted.  The Yeti, whilst only a fraction longer, is a couple of inches wider but seems so much bigger in the front. The higher driving position is great and the instruments are much brighter and clearer.  As we have only done a few miles in it since we collected it, we will need to spend more driving time before making further comments.

I just hope that it's as reliable as the Roomster was!

I'm on my second Roomster, but I'm thinking of trading it in for a Yeti next year.

I would be very interested to hear your experiences.

Enjoy your Yeti

I had a Roomster before owning 2 Yetis (consecutively). Only thing I missed was the low down grunt but quickly got used to the smoother power delivery of the Yeti, especially the latest 140 DSG 4x4.

We've now had our Yeti for a week and whilst my wife has driven it the most, I've managed to use it a couple of times.  I always found the Roomster tricky to park for some reason, i.e. ensuring that the car wasn't too far out from the pavement.  There's no such problem with the Yet.  It's much easier to park correctly.

The radio, with touch screen, is great, easy to use and has a far better sound quality.  Have yet to try the SD card slot, a great feature of the radio.

So far so good but I'll need a few hundred miles driving it before making more comments.

I too traded in my 57 Roomster 3 1.9tdi recently for a Yeti 2.0 tdi CR SE.

For me it has been a very worthwhile upgrade - the interior is larger and more modern, the radio is better and the ride much improved over the Roomster (which was remapped and trouble free for 6 years). If you use the SD card, make sure all your music is in MP3 format!

I found however that the Yeti engine lacked much go or grunt, so have had it remapped with what was called an 'economy remap' that reflects my relaxed driving style these days.

The remap took 45 minutes as the provider had a magic box that enable him to do the job via the OBD port without having to remove the ECU. I now have more than enough grunt in all gears, and using that gently brings a smile to my face! I still manage 50mpg, too.

You have to learn to pack the boot to use the greater height available - and decide whether you are happy not to have any kind of spare wheel (which if fitted will bring the boot floor almost up to the base of the hatch).

I think that the Skoda wheel/tyre combinations are rather over the top for a 2WD that will never go off-road - I have 17" wheels with 225 50 R17 tyres!

If buying used, I reckon that a steering check is worthwhile; I had Protyre do mine and they found that the geometry was way out.

The Roomster's ride was WORSE?!

The tyres are sports car ones certainly not off road ones in my neck of the woods.
