Engine management problems!

I own and drive a 2007 Skoda Roomster Scout 1.9TDi.

Very recently some lights have appeared on the dashboard. Firstly the red open door/boot/bonnet which I am now fairly sure is due to a faulty switch when the boot is closed failing to send the signal to switch the boot light off when the boot is shut! Now I get a red brake warning light along with a yellow ABS light and a yellow ESP light. This appeared after I attempted to clean a little corrosion off one of the rear brake discs with some wire wool. I was told some bits may have shed off and attached themselves to the magnetic ABS sensor on that wheel. A ittle bemused I consulted ' the manual' which advised to check the brake fluid. This appears OK. However, driving to the local garage another yellow light, the speedometer stopped working- the information on the dash such as MPG fuel trip miles, time etc were all reading nonsense too. At the garage the mechanic's diagnostic machine couldn't 'communicate' with the car! He checked the strip fuses on the battery which were OK. CAN ANYBODY SHED ANY 'LIGHTON THIS ONE- other than a warning light!

Was it a Skoda specialist or a garage using a generic code reader? Did you try to remove any wire wool fibres? I get the boot/door open light regularly, a good slam of the boot cures it. But mine is a Roomster SE.

Thank-you bryanb.

Yes it was a generic code reader at an ordinary garage. (I was put off the £70 fee Skoda in Crewe wanted to put it on their machine) Yes I took the wheel off and brushed away any remaining traces of wire wool but in honesty I couldn't get the ABS plug like thing off its fixing.  Oh the boot I have tried slamming and copious quantities of WD40.

Is the code-reader of significance?

Hi Philip, just a thought, there's been a lot on Briskoda about the cables into the hatch breaking/being damaged where they bridge across the gap from fixed body to movable hatch, worth checking out;    the local VCDS advice is sound;    My '07 Roomster bootlid was a swine to shut when I acquired it second-hand, sometimes leaving the bootlight on, and giving me that warning light and buzzer, my local garageman adjusted the latch plate in the bumper, sorted, easy-peasy!

Thank-you for your advice Richard.

The latch (with microswitch) has now been replaced and all seems well. The VW/Seat/Skoda specialist who did the work however couldn't get his diagnostic equipment to communicate with the car computer to establish the fault in the braking system with the red light, amber ABS and amber ESP light and also an amber engine light. It must be worth mentioning that the speedometer doesn't work and also the MILEOMETER isn't working either.

Does anyone have any insight into this- or thoughts or next steps?
