Only car I have ever waxed.

There must be something about a Yeti it is the only car I have ever owned that I have felt inclined to hand wax. My first car in 1966 was a Ford Prefect 107E followed by a Mini, Austin A35 van etc etc. The last car was a VW Golf Mk7 1.4 TSI DSG, I washed them sometimes and that was it. I bought the Yeti three weeks ago a Quartz Grey 1.2 TSI DSG suddenly I found I had this urge to protect it from the elements, so I bought some cloths and a bottle of wax and spent a morning buffing it up. It's addictive, the wheels are getting a coat of Poorboys wheel protector and the door seals some Gummi Phledge to stop the noise they make. How long will I keep this up? No Idea but it's the first car I even felt like spending time on, must say something about it, or me.

I rarely ever did more than attack my cars with a bucket & sponge a few times a year. My old Octavia was lucky if it got washed quarterly, but the Yeti has been different. Other than the atrocious job done by the bodyshop when it went in for a door respray it hasn't been touched by a sponge, and gets regularly cleaned and polished, usually once a fortnight. It gets an annual thorough clean and machine polish once a year, courtesy of ChrisRs (and usually blueR36 too). Over three years on, and though the fortnight sometime stretches to three weeks (or four when I cleaned it this weekend**) I'm still happy to spend the time on it - though SWMBO doesn't see the point!

I bought a bottle of Meguiars DeepCrystal Carnauba, I wanted something that was easy on/off and wouldn't leave white marks on the black stuff of which there is a lot. One question I have is what do you treat the black plastic with?

And for once Mr Goldfinger is actually giving a serious answer! :p  Lots of people on here have found peanut butter (well, peanut oil at least) to work. I use Sonax BSD as a detailer/sealant after every other wash and that seems to do a good job keeping the plastic looking good.

First car I have used a clay bar on. Bilt Hamber as well as their wax.
