provisionally bought VRS Estate...few questions please

Recommended Posts

PMSL gotta love George ;)

If its under warranty you have some piece of mind, should be a CTHE, more power, more reliability.

you would be passing me in the lakes, give us a wave! ;)

and enjoy your drive home!

Shark

Thanks Shark...... love the Lakes!!

IMO you should get something local and from a main dealer. If you get a problem it will be logistical nightmare.

I agree Id rather buy local and believe me Id rather not travel one end of the country to the other, but there aren't any blue Fabia VRS estates with this mileage and history currently for sale anywhere else.

Also you'd be amazed how much we get ripped off with higher car prices down here! Im sure dealers rely on the fact that most people won't travel out of the county!

Full skoda warranty will be honoured at any dealer anyway.

& you will have a lovely trip going back home.

Bring your sunglasses.

Fill up with Tesco Momentum 99 and it is downhill going home.

The DSG will have learned your driving style by the time you are home.

?

How are you getting up here,

any cheap flights available?

Glasgow Airport - Linwood not far.

23rd i am at Edinburgh Airport dropping someone off that is flying down your way to join a Cruise. Southampton.

Then i am going to Glasgow & beyond....But that is a Friday afternoon / evening.

http://flybe.com  £40-£70 from Southampton

Glasgow or Edinburgh during the week.

Maybe shout out on the Forum and there might be a Briskoda Member or 3 that are setting off from your area and heading north.

Or up the country a bit at least.

Thanks George....will bear that in mind.

2 schools of thought for collection dates at mo... either 18th or 25th Oct. The 18th I'm at the NEC so considering flying from Birmingham to Glasgow & letting the other half drive home by herself.

The 25th would mean flying up from Exeter to Glasgow, which is still a 100 mile drive from my home to Exeter to start with....so the 18th is looking favourite at the moment.

Only thing I don't understand is the flight from Birmingham to Glasgow is £20 more?! Still not a bad price at £69.

A piece of advice.

Do not collect a car on a Saturday or a Sunday, especially at an Arnold Clark Dealership.

Even a Friday is dodgy unless early on in the day,  just in case there is something that needs attention before you accept the hand over.

(and you really want at least a 30-40 road test with the car before you pay any balance and buy it,

even more so if you are travelling after collection.)

I can check around the Body and Tyres etc on the 12th or 13th at the latest,

and they might let me get a test drive depending on what you say to them, or their policy.

such a difference to the abarth dealer where we got our ... er, abarth! they put us up in a hotel the night before, because it was a long drive down (for free) description of the car was perfectly accurate, got cambelt and water pump done with service, and they have this 100 point check thing they do... every detail, like making sure ice cold aircon ect ect .... we went a long way to get that car, but wow, how good is a specialist dealer?!

I have fallen out with our local skoda dealer, next service I'm going to the VW garage.

Wise words there . . . the next revelation from the VW stable is that if you don't use superfuel in a vRS from a grocers alleged to have minor problems with counting regularities, your car will EXPLODE!

http://volkswagen.co.uk/need-help/owners/Fuel

The manufacturers recommended Fuel for the 1.4 TSI / TFSI Twincharger 132-136 kw is Super 98 Octane

Tesco Momentum 99 Produced by Greenergy is 99 Octane Minimum. so exceeds the Recommended Octane, and the Minimum 95 ron.

http://greenergy.com

Fuel Producer for various Branded Fuels, not an own brand bean manufacturer.

An engine will certainly not explode using 95 or 97 ron, but it might not run as efficiently.

Not rocket science just an internal combustion engine in a passenger vehicle.

1390 cc producing quite good performance and economy, and lowish emissions on the recommended octane of fuel.

George...thanks for the help and advice.

Deposit put down on the car on Saturday, flights and travelodge booked!

Collecting the car on Monday 19th October so if you do manage to have a once round it for me before then, Id be grateful!

Luckily I spotted on the agreement invoice that AC were going to charg me £25 for fuel (which the salesman never told me about beforehand)....rang them and said Ill put my own fuel in and to remove the charge! Never seen this done before....at least not without asking first!!

Good stuff.

That 'VRS' Seat belt pad must have been worth £25 surely, but it has probably gone by now.

I wish they would not say they have 'Front Fog Lights',  but hey ho, you can tell them they are mis-advertising the car.

(They point out the small print though.)

Beautiful car, well prepared. Continentals all round. Oil level all correct and started first turn on a cold damp morning. Fastest colour. Larry with it. Top class and a helpful salesperson.

George, you're a star! Great piece of mind knowing it's a good 'un travelling so far! Had an email from the salesman confirming you've had a look, made me laugh....his words describing you "he certainly is an enthusiast!"

Can't wait till next Monday now!

Thanks again....Phil

Great stuff, George. Far better you went than I did as your knowledge of the vRS far exceeds mine - I wouldn't have felt confident doing much beyond checking the bodywork and tyres.

That is all i did as well, and did a Jabozuma check on the oil.

Genuine cars stand out a mile, and what a pleasant AC Dealership.

Lots of choice out at Linwood for various Brands & Dealerships.

(i am still not the owner of a Citroen Cactus yet, but i feel the urge to surge with bubble wrap.)

Hopefully the Blue vRS Estate is heading south.

Yes it is!

From Scotland to her new home in Cornwall!! :sun:

Left AC at 1045am and with a couple of stops arrived home at 930pm....long old drive....550+ miles but the Vrs went like a dream....she had a pretty good work out too!! Would've averaged more than the indicated 37mpg had I not had a heavy right foot in places! Cant believe its only a 1.4!!!

A little disappointed with Arnold Clark salesman.....after specifically asking him to go over the car & let me know every mark/dent/scratch worth mentioning, I wasn't happy to find 2 big stone chips on the bonnet, a scratch in one of the rear passengers windows, 3 scuffed alloys (I was aware of 2), and stone chips on the roof and rear c pillar. Apart from the 2 alloys none of this was pointed out and I wasn't pleased. The salesman I dealt with was on holiday so I spoke with the manager and expressed my disappointment.

My beef was that all I wanted was a completely honest description of the car, and all of the above could have been spotted by my partially sighted gran. It wouldn't have put me off buying the car but I also didn't want any surprises when I arrived.

I wanted more off the car and I wasn't going to walk away if I didn't get it, but he would only allow another £50 saying that they've already reduced it by £600 from their asking price.

So anyway, I accepted and a quick test drive later I was on my way. Overall really pleased with the car, just got a bit more to do than expected to get the bodywork back to the standard I like!

Thanks to everyone here (especially George for having a look at the car for me) for the advice..... Ill get some pics up once Ive given her a good wash and wax!
