OIL DRAIN PLUG LOCATION

Hi, I've just recently purchased and changed all the filters (Cabin, air, fuel, oil) With the exception of the oil filter, which I've still to do. I have the oil and filter waiting but as I have never done this on my Fabia before, although I have done it on many other older cars, I am not entirely sure as to the location or size of the bolt. I didn't want to find myself draining the gearbox or something else and as I have no Haynes manual, hoped for a little feedback. I have the 1.4 TDI Greenline Fabia 2 from 2009. 

 

I decided to do the oil and filters myself as I just blew £180 having the DPF forced regen done.

 

Any help, (Piccies in particular) Will be great.

I have no exact details, but, when you look under the car, you should be able to identify the engine sump, as opposed to the base of the auto gearbox, then look around for a drain plug which will be at the lowest point either on the bottom or front or rear of the sump.

 

From looking at an on-line VAG parts catalogue, it seems to be towards the RHS on the rear face. (RHS of car when in driver's seat looking forward)

Dunno if the green line is any different to the standard but this is the drain plug on a 2010 1.4tdi

So, the big-ish hex bolt at the centre forefront of the engine?  Many thanks. 

 

P>S> The Greenline is basically a lower emissions version, with the DPF fitted, car lowered, different gear ratios and a few minor differences, most cosmetic (Foglights, door strips, fake chrome inner trim bits and £20 road tax). I think DPF's became a legal requirement anyway, back in 09.

Oh Bumpers! I jacked up the car a little in order to reach the bolt, only to realise my under tray is much longer then the one pictured there. I am going to have to either :-  go to local garage and get them to change oil and filter hoping they'l be happy to do just the labour, which I recon is actually a win - win situation for them as there is no comeback over defective parts, or up on ramps, remove the whole under tray, remove plug and drain the bulk of the oil, lower off the ramps to completely empty, jack up again to fit plug, swap filters and re=fill. re-ramp, re-fit under tray and drop again.

 

Might just look into the cost of a vacuum pump to suck oil out via the dipstick tube as I believe many people use this method.

 

One garage said although he wouldn't do labour only, he reckons it'll cost around £50 just to do this. Gone are the days when an oil and filter change, including the parts was about that then!

If you put the car up onto ramps, remove the few screws that hold the shield on and get it out of the way, remove the drain plug and leave on the ramps, as the plug is at the rear of the engine, this is ideal for when the car is on front ramps.
