DV failing? Fabia vRS

Recommended Posts

Hi peeps! I've noticed that over the last couple of days that my vrs has been getting a little sluggish on gear changes and there is a delay in acceleration when the DSG box has changed gear. I've also started hearing a slight hissing noise on part throttle but that might just be in my head haha!

I went to see a mate today with an Ibiza Cupra and his gear changes were much faster with no let up in acceleration through the gears. Between us we came to the conclusion that the diverter valve is the likely culprit.

Just looking for a second opinion and which one to get to replace my current one. Also, is the GFB diverter valve worth the money?

Is it a standard car now and all serviced up to date and has it had the DSG Service campaign?

Spark plugs good, air filter and latest ECU Update.

How old, how many miles and how long have you had it?

EDIT.

Did you get a Pipe or Breather Valve, and is it the Original or a Updated one,

& is there a Tuning Box on?

It's not standard, mapped, induction and exhaust, just been serviced, I change the plugs every 6-7k miles and apparently there is no DSG campaign on my car. Covered 47k and I've had it for a couple of years.

I got in touch with Dave at Sere Motors and he supplied me with a replacement breather pipe. AFAIK it's still the standard one unless it was updated by the previous owner.

What did you get a rebuilt engine or a new replacement in the end?

worth trying your VIN again,

some were wrongly told their cars DSG was not part of the Service Campaign.

If you have no warranty, no need to have it done anyway, but even without a Warranty if you get it

done and their is a problem, Skoda are paying for any work.

With the stock DV on a mapped vRS you can sometimes feel some delay during high gear changes (5,6,7) on full boost. To me it felt like I momentarily lifted my foot from the throttle and then re-applied it but it only happened on 5th gear with full throttle and on. Not noticeable in everyday driving. The GFB is a great product and this behavior disappeared when I put it on the car. It's one of the upgrades that go well with the extra power.

If on the other hand you mean that it feels sluggish in all gear changes no matter the gear and no matter how much throttle that would be a bit strange and may be a different cause.

Goneoffski, I'm still on the original engine, no replacement or rebuild. It used to use a little oil but after changing to a slightly thicker oil, it's practically stopped. I've also had a look at the recall link you've posted and there's nothing outstanding so happy days!

Newbie, you are correct, it is only in the higher gears and exactly as you described. I should have made that clear in my initial post!

Looks like I'll be ordering a GFB replacement soon then!

GFB diverter valve cured my overboost problems. If you just want to replace stock valve with the same then just be aware that there have been a few updated versions. So if buying online it may not be the latest version.

Google "GFB T9355" which is the exact 1.4 TSI version. They're quite hard to find outside Australia but with some hunting you can find a shop in EU that imports them. Bought mine from some shop in Belgium in the end.

Many owners running the early versions of Forge had boost leak issues, a few of those cases were from Briskoda as well. GFB is a different product as its based on a different principle, a very smart one indeed (here's what i does if you're interested in the technical part:

).

Haven't yet found somebody reporting problems with their DV+, only positive reports. A neater solution as well. Goes in in 10minutes, no need to run hoses around the engine bay etc.

Fuchs Titan Pro 10w40 I think is in it now. Just make sure the oil exceeds the 50x.x spec needed for the 1.4tsi. I'm hearing good things about the Millers Nanodrive oil too but I haven't looked into that yet.

It hasn't completely cured my oil consumption but it has drastically reduced it!

Thanks for that part number!

For UK Winters & road use i would stick with 5w 40 Full Synthetic.

But if 10w 40 works for you then why not.

Maybe best to look at getting the latest Oil Spray Jets fitted, rather than relying on 'thicker oil'.

I am looking onto the latest oil spray jets but my confidence in my local and surrounding areas dealers is pretty much at zero. That leaves me with finding a VAG specialist who is willing to do the job...

Thanks for that information. So far they mainly seem to be mainly available from Australia as you said or the US. Are the stock ones known to fail towards certain points? Or more likely to fail with increased boost from a stage 1/2 etc map?

Edit: found this link (thanks for the website link George) http://bmmperformance.co.uk/product/dv-tms-vwaudi-vag-1-4-tsi-twin-charged-diverter-valve-gfb/

So I think that's the one I'll order, saves paying for shipping from the other side of the world!

Not that prone to fail, just that on remapped cars they show this weakness of keeping the power during full boost shifts. If you're fine with it then no need to change I guess.

Too late! Once I get an idea in my head of how to improve the car it generally sticks until I open my wallet haha. I've got it for AUS$156 which is £73! Ordered it directly from GFB and had it sent to a friend in Australia who's coming over to the UK in a week or so. So saved on shipping to the UK as well. Bargain! Bmm performance wanted £110 and that was with a discounted postage rate!
